Your sense of humor, knowledge, and joy of what you do makes me confident that every video I watch will teach me something useful and I'll have a good time learning it as well. Kudos, and Thanks
Killer playing and killer video, Euge! My first “real” amp was a 2x12 version of this that a guy built for me in my hometown in Pennsylvania back in 2006. It’s the piece of gear I’ve owned the longest. The circuit is near and dear to my heart!

Your playing is just off the chain next level shit!! And also that Tokai Les Paul that you sounds fantastic! Most have annoying frequencies that take forever to eq out and never end up with a satisfying sound. Celestions “official” ir’s are not very good at all to my ears and need a lot of eq tweaks. However the Bogren pack and in particular the valovirtuous ir is a very well balanced sound which needs virtually no post eq at all. Very well produced sounding ir. Love your channel. Lots of good info, great playing, all presented in an easy going manner with no ego at all.
There's no denying the history behind the Marshall 18-watt. It's pure, unfiltered tube power that’s hard to beat. @@EugeValovirta230V hey Euge, have you ever used a wampler plexi drive? I was thinking of getting one to use with my marshall mg 50 for home use. The plexi drive deluxe. I want that cranked marshall plexi sound. The MG just won't do it.
@@EugeValovirta230V yeah i orderd it yesterday. I almost have the entire back and black solo down and when I get that peddle....it will sound amazing. The marshall 1974x amp is the sound I truly want but I would not spend that much on an amp until I am playing out for money. Thanks for sharing that video got me inspired to explore that rock sound. It brings back memories of old school stuff my dad listened to.
I struggle between choosing this and another 2061X with matching cab (both at similar price). In person, I prefer the tone of 1974X, but the 2061X seemed more versatile with more bass and was more aggressive; but I am surprised that you can get a Van Halen type of tone with 1974X with pedals. Have you tried a 2061X, and if so would you prefer it to the 1974X?
the 1974 has a tube rectifier, so more sag and less immediate sounding than the 2061's solid state rectifier, both are great amps but i preferred the 1974x with the matching extension cab at 8 ohms, for more bass ive swapped all the preamp tubes to vintage mullard i63's .enjoy.
Not related to this video, but I received an used SD1 (MIT) today, and I wonder how I survived all these years without it???? I truely like it more than my TS808. Cant believe it! PS. I want to see a Rolex on your wrist ;o)
i have mine with the tone at 4 for the last ten years since i use one guitar, it's not a mesa where it takes you 45 minutes to dial in a tone with 17 options and graffic eq and if a knob moves one milimeter the sound is dead and you have to start from zero. in other words whatever you do with the 1974x you can't screw it up.
@@yaniv-nos-tubes yeah I see. For me I always found the layout of the jcm 800 to be the best for amps. Tone sections is simple yet is working as intended and then just gain and volume.
Hm... got a 1974x and i am thinking of switching to a JTM45 Bluesbreaker 2x12" Combo Version to get the typical Bluesbreaker Sound. What do you think about the "Bluesbreaker sound" out of the 1974x.
the jtm is a better amp overall if loudness is not an issue, but the 1974x has it's magic with some voxish chime ,if you want to get the most out of your 1974x add the 1974cx at 8 ohms and swap at least the first preamp tube (v1) to a vintage mullard i63, it still won't be a jtm 45 but it will have more low mids and less highs, that's what i did anyway because i have a maple board strat. enjoy
They all sound great. The 1987x sounds a bit more aggressive whereas the 1974 is very smooth. In a bedroom or home studio the 1974 prob makes more sense.
Hello boss ! If you have to keep one ? What it will be ? I have the 1987x, the JTM reissue, and a 1974x + cx For me it's the 1987 😊 i will put a PPIMV on it because.. its.. fuc*ing loud in a 4x12 🤣 Cheers
Yeah those old Greenbacks (and the EVH speaker - which is just a 20 watt Greenback with EVH graphics) are 15 ohm. It works fine but if you’re in doubt just set the amp to 8 ohms for example.
it's never accurate anyway, speakers drop below their rated resistance etc..., it's fine and you don't have to worry about damage to the amp or speaker 15ohms=16ohms it will take me too long to explain why.
Euge, when you say one amp has SS rectifier and another has a tube rectifier.....YOu say ""SS rectifier hits you hard" What you mean by this? Can you make an comparisson video?
It’s a feel thing; how the amp behaves and feels under the fingers. Tube rectifier is smoother and solid state faster & harder. Hard to explain but to me it’s a feel thing like most things regarding gear anyways 😎.
if you know the sound of a jtm 45 compared to a jcm 800 for example, the jcm is a lot more bitey aggressive immediate and punchy some of it because of the ss rectifier while the jtm or 1974 has more sag like a slight delay in response ,a softer mellower response, it will never take your head off like a jcm can.

Euge! Killer like normal- what were you starting to play at 11:16? Metallica song if I’m not mistaken? Stuck in my head now!
Call of the Ktulu! 🤘🏻
Thanks! No idea; just noodled some random arpeggios from the top of my head 😁.
Always great!
Thanks!
Another beautiful Tokai...!
Indeed 😎👌.
I haven’t tried it a 2061x but my favourite Plexi is 1987x 😎👌
@@EugeValovirta230V thanks, the 1987X is too loud for me though
the 1974 has a tube rectifier, so more sag and less immediate sounding than the 2061's solid state rectifier, both are great amps but i preferred the 1974x with the matching extension cab at 8 ohms, for more bass ive swapped all the preamp tubes to vintage mullard i63's .enjoy.
@@yaniv-nos-tubes thanks for your insight.
Is there a Marshall head that has enough gain to do modern brutal metal?
Not related to this video, but I received an used SD1 (MIT) today, and I wonder how I survived all these years without it???? I truely like it more than my TS808. Cant believe it!
PS. I want to see a Rolex on your wrist ;o)
Awesome!
I’m more of a Hublot guy but who knows, maybe someday 😎.
Euge!! Have you ever thought about comparing the ML Soundlabs Plexi Plug-in to the real deal?
Not really since I haven’t found better Marshall plugins than Softube 👌.
Anyone tell me about the intro riff?? I have heard it somewhere.
Man, that opening tune is haunting me now, I have to learn at least the main riff!
Good 😊👌🎼🎸.
Hi Euge. What is the manufacturer of your load box. Great sounding amp 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks from Stockholm

Thanks & cheers!
Good stuff. Just the ticket !
Thanks!
Love this. You should do a shred blues/metal EP.
Thanks! Not a bad idea. That’s what I basically always play. At least the way I see it since I consider myself a blues player on steroids 😁.
Maybe it's me, but this guy doesn't suck.
Thanks! 🕺😎
What is the name of the amp switcher?
KHE: th-cam.com/video/-_WpuZW22D4/w-d-xo.html
Do you find limiting that the eq section is just a "tone" knob?
Nope. If it sounds good that’s all you need 😎.
i have mine with the tone at 4 for the last ten years since i use one guitar, it's not a mesa where it takes you 45 minutes to dial in a tone with 17 options and graffic eq and if a knob moves one milimeter the sound is dead and you have to start from zero. in other words whatever you do with the 1974x you can't screw it up.
It’s pretty much spot on if I remember correct 👌.
the jtm is a better amp overall if loudness is not an issue, but the 1974x has it's magic with some voxish chime ,if you want to get the most out of your 1974x add the 1974cx at 8 ohms and swap at least the first preamp tube (v1) to a vintage mullard i63, it still won't be a jtm 45 but it will have more low mids and less highs, that's what i did anyway because i have a maple board strat. enjoy
They all sound great. The 1987x sounds a bit more aggressive whereas the 1974 is very smooth. In a bedroom or home studio the 1974 prob makes more sense.
👌🤟
Hello boss ! If you have to keep one ? What it will be ? I have the 1987x, the JTM reissue, and a 1974x + cx
For me it's the 1987 😊 i will put a PPIMV on it because.. its.. fuc*ing loud in a 4x12 🤣
Cheers
1987x is my favourite of all Plexis and the only Plexi I own 😎👌.
Hey, quick question! What are you using to capture the sound of the amp?
I think I explained that in the video 😉.
But shortly: amp, reactive load, IR, audio interface, DAW
Interesting… I’ve never seen a 15 ohm speaker. Why not 16? Won’t it damage the amp after some years?
Yeah those old Greenbacks (and the EVH speaker - which is just a 20 watt Greenback with EVH graphics) are 15 ohm. It works fine but if you’re in doubt just set the amp to 8 ohms for example.
@@EugeValovirta230V
Interesting… never heard of that 15 ohms speaker! Thanks, man! 👍🏼
it's never accurate anyway, speakers drop below their rated resistance etc..., it's fine and you don't have to worry about damage to the amp or speaker 15ohms=16ohms it will take me too long to explain why.
@@yaniv-nos-tubes
Thanks man.
1st combo demoed by you Euge?
Can’t remember but could be 😎.
Been thinking about how to comment on this.....
FUCKING MINT!!
Brilliant playing and what a sound...
Thanks man!
Apparently, when you engage the blues driver you turn into Yngwie Malmsteen.
😁😁😁
I heard Michael Schenker and Paul Chapman!
You should play the blues more often bro, that shit was groovy 😎
I play that every day 👌. I consider myself a blues player but just on steroids. At least that’s how I see it 😎.
I thought I loved my 74x before. Then I put 6p14ps and bugle boys in it. Motherfucker she's glorious.
Euge, when you say one amp has SS rectifier and another has a tube rectifier.....YOu say ""SS rectifier hits you hard"
What you mean by this?
Can you make an comparisson video?
It’s a feel thing; how the amp behaves and feels under the fingers. Tube rectifier is smoother and solid state faster & harder. Hard to explain but to me it’s a feel thing like most things regarding gear anyways 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V Would you say like 1974x=spoongier or softer and that other amp on the right Instant attack, feels better while playing fast runs?
Something like that yeah 😎👌.
if you know the sound of a jtm 45 compared to a jcm 800 for example, the jcm is a lot more bitey aggressive immediate and punchy some of it because of the ss rectifier while the jtm or 1974 has more sag like a slight delay in response ,a softer mellower response, it will never take your head off like a jcm can.
i have one from 2005 ,wait till you hear this amp with nos mullard tubes.
🤟
Classy and classic! Sounds great! You put that crazy old anti-vaxxer to shame!
😁🙏👌
Killer!
🙏😎🤟
that price tho... handwired and comes with a cabinet, but still
😎
i bet there not near 3000.00 where you are..its insane..an i have had them all thru the years anyway..
I think around 1.5 K here in Europe.
