Awesome climb to the summit of Mt. Hood! We did this May 11, 2022. Good conditions led us to do this with one ice axe and no ropes, but guided teams still roped up for extra safety,
I have read that it is roughly 70 degrees so it is approaching being completely vertical. The old chute which would be to the left of the pearly gates as you are climbing up is less steep from what I have read. But it is a less direct route to the summit. With our good conditions, we were able to do the pearly gates unroped and with only one axe, but in different conditions we might have really wanted to have two axes. It all depends on the conditions of the snow and ice as to which route you take in my opinion.

It's 50 degrees, but sometimes there are some steps. It's not almost vertical, come on man..
