  • Certainly not one of the most technical climbs on Hood, but one of the most beautiful and one of my favs; I climbed it several times this year, alone. I feel at home here.

There is another TH-cam video of climbing Reid Headwall in which the route is filled with ice. That climb was very technical ice climbing.

Yeah, in the right conditions the Reid can have some great ice in it's gullies; I've climbed this route and it's variations 7 or 8 times now; I've climbed it when it is filled in with snow, as in this video, and when it has ice. the ice is definitely more fun.

@@randylee6088 Which Reid variation was this, center line? And did you climb that final headwall or traverse around left? Also, looks like you started descending before the summit, not doing the P gates or old chute?

@@davidmckay7973 This was the left variation; the most common, and longest. I have climbed the other variations before, as well. We climbed it all the way to where it ends on the NW corner of the summit ridge. We descended down the South Chute; we didn't walk over and tag the true summit, as the clouds were moving in fast and we wanted to get off the mountain before we got socked in.
