It’s difficult to choose, but I’d say Hosea. To have to live out the choices God had for him as an example of what the people were doing as a country, I wonder if Hosea found it difficult to agree? How could he? Someday I’d like to visit with Hosea about this. I grew up in a Christian home with daily morning devotions. As a pre-teen I accepted Jesus Christ into my life. In a community meeting as a young teen I made a commitment to abstain from any alcoholic drink and from smoking cigarettes (that was all that was smoked all those years ago) and I have remembered that since. Not always easy. It is NOT that I am any better than another, but that is what I believe God wanted and knew what was best for me. That is nothing like what Hosea had to do!!! God loves each one of us and would surely like to have Love in return from us. Don’t you think?

Thank you for this insight John. Ive always been interested in this particular gift and wondered about it quite a bit. This sheds so much light on it for me and gave me some much appreciated clarity. Who would be some of these people in the present day do you think?

The prophets of the Bible are amazing people. Reading of their callings - I can't even imagine how they quaked at the voice of God's first words to them - the fear and inadequacy they must have felt for this calling. But, each one, after the struggle of realizing the call was from our Holy God, took up that call and faced the nation of Israel with His Word. Each one called, who struggled and then went in obedience is someone to look to and glean from - to grow from and go in the strength of our God - no matter where that is. From Moses to Isaiah their words of 'Here am I, send me' ring loud. And, at 75 yrs, I still struggle when God asks me to share Jesus with someone - UGH!

"God is raging in the prophet's words." Abraham Joshua Heschel The lesson must be we should listen to the prophet's words even when it is uncomfortable to do so.

This was such a good one I listened to it twice then again on my way to work. I forward to one who has a story and her story matters. She a prophetess who churches and ministries had outcast her. She has the gift of tears and sensitivity. DL if you read this know that you are loved by many! ❤

Very interesting John! In my church, but as far as I know most in churches today, prophecy is supposed to be encouraging and building someone up. But that means we lack the serious admonishings that God might want to give. Room for some serious contemplation!

Thank you for disturbing messages concerning our lives for God, and His messengers.
Hosea is one of my most favorite prophets. A man who trusted & obeyed God in the gutters of life.
Thank you also for the journey into the middle ages. This makes me wonder what the era we are living in might be called 500+ years from now? What & who (& why) will be remembered?
    Shalom

What I find it disturbing is that some would find this a disturbing message. Jesus did not fail to point out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders and went so far as to teach that unless your being right exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisee, the Kingdom is inaccessible. I don't know for sure the correct interpretation, but in Revelation we learn the witness of Jesus is the spirit of prophesy. Since Jesus said we would be his witnesses by becoming his students, we begin to notice we fail to love others as we love ourselves, then we notice it in those who would say they are Christians. We need prophets to remind and challenge us to follow Jesus. Giving everything we have to the poor, but not loving them is doing the right thing the wrong way. I have done this in the past, but I hope less so going forward.
