    You can use even less vram, essentially, by using Render layers so it renders each layer one after the other then combine them in compositing.

    • @GurnoorMarjara
      @GurnoorMarjara ปีที่แล้ว

      Even for animations?

    • @MrTomyCJ
      @MrTomyCJ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GurnoorMarjara yes, you can save each frame as an exr multilayer (or use file output to save each layer to its own image) and then combine them in the compositor. I'm not sure if this saves VRAM though. To save VRAM you can also trt rendering in smaller tiles. It can be slower to render though.

      For renders - yeah, but sometimes you don't even have enough VRAM to use viewport. This is super useful for GPUs with less than 20 GB VRAM.

  • @Dorian.Janiak
    @Dorian.Janiak หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You saved my scene, because I was hitting 8GB VRAM limit of my GPU. After applying texture limit I have 2.3 GB and half of the rendering time 😃 thanks! 😉

    Thank you very much! I somehow missed it that Blender can show in the status bar how much memory it's using. But if all the optimization inside Blender is not enough and Blender keeps on crashing because you don't have enough memory, there is another possibility to increase the virtual memory that is actually offered by your operating system. Good old fashioned memory swap files.

    • @SchemingGoldberg
      @SchemingGoldberg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      VRAM is your GPU, swap files are only for RAM (which is for your CPU), so swap files don't increase your VRAM. If you have an integrated GPU, then the VRAM and RAM are shared, so a swap file would work. But for dedicated GPUs (like AMD or NVidia) then it won't work.

    Thnaks so much, i was strugling with a scene and i did not knew about the simplify option to limits texture size. You cured a gigantic headhacke

  • @pardismack
    @pardismack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    another two options in the render shelf to minimize RAM usage (with the price of longer rendering time):
    * Disable "Use Curves BVH"
    * Enable "Use Compact BVH"

  • @nickcrofts1659

    I had success in the past when needing to keep my textures hi res but blender was saying it was it of vram when rendering (with viewport in wireframe) by going to performance in the render tab and changing my tile size to something lower than the standard 2k. It might work for others as well

    • @nickcrofts1659
      @nickcrofts1659 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also had success changing texture size for parts of the material that don't need to be high for the model I'm using, such as leaving normal, height and base at 8k and dropping roughness and Metallness down to 2k but that won't leave good results for all models, it would depend on the model.

    wow, no wonder BLender crashes all the time. I have in my scene one plane (4 vertices) and one stretched torus with 289 faces and the default light and camera. That's it. ANd already 2 GIGABYTES of VRAM is used. ! for WHAT? 2 BILLION chunks of data that could hold an alphabetic letter each is used? for one plane and one primitive mesh torus. :( I don't see what all it needs to load up into VRAM just from even add-ons and stuff. That stuff should be sitting inside regular RAM. I have both CPU and VRAM enabled for render. Maybe it will try to use both. I don't know. Thanks again for these tips.

    in short there is no magic tool to save VRAM ^^ the only thing you can do is to keep in ur scene all the necessary stuff and ofc if vram not enough downscale ur textures :)
    i remeber i was trying to render a scene with 3 males and 3 females animation plus the room (eevee render) whenever i clicked render animation ..it was yeah right try again so i started downscale textures and then i could render the thing .ps i run with 16 ram and 8gb gpu ram . also something important ! stuff i could render in 2.83 version i couldnt render in other versions ..weird huh thats why even tho i have all blender versions i still use 2.83 FTW anyways downscale textures is legit but even that at some point if u render big scenes you might need more ram ,lastly some scenes that cant be render in cycles woth gpu compute they can be rendered with using cpu (if u have 1 year time to render ofc ) not that cycles with gpu is fast thats why i personaly cheat using eevee i love watching rendering frames in 30 seconds heheh instead hours heheh (i mean imagine rendering a niamtion with 4k frames on cycles ..... so for me that i dont go for photorealism eevee is the winnder :)

    Hi Sir, I would love that you answer me. For blender, AMD or Nvidia? I'm a complete beginner in Blender, I could test your course. And my old GPU is died. So my brother is gifting me RTX 3060 12 GB or RX 6650 xt with 8 GB Vram. So, I worry if it's critical Vram or nvidia or AMD. Specially I would like to learn modeling in 3D. Actually I'm mostly 2D artist and computer technician.

    • @PonteRyuurui

    Thanks for this vid, Hans Zimmer! hahahah I'm sorry! You need to do some fake Hans Zimmer interviews. Bashing all your soundtracks! hahahah "leak" that onto the Internet and watch the drama! hehehhe Man... Why is it a crash if Blender uses up all the VRAM? Shouldn't the graphics card or the CPU understand when a call to VRAM is made and it wants to STORE 1000 but only has 100, the CPU tells graphics card to unload a chunk of VRAM to HD, etc, just like any OS does when RAM gets full? Anyway, I have 64 G of regular RAM and 12 G VRAM (4070 TI card) so I guess for crashing you can use CPU for pre-renders up to the final, then switch to VRAM plus CPU? I don't know. I just started trying Blender about a week ago really. I'm just learning.

    • @stuffmcstuff399
      @stuffmcstuff399 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need more than 4k textures for things, truth be told - Unless you want a highly detailed hdri background. You also have render layers which splits it all up and you can combine all the parts which makes it more manageable for graphics cards with lower vram.
