Man I been telling my wife for years I could solve all her problems with my tongue. Lol
Cracking video Wayne as always, it's not a Friday night without Ol 2 Stroker, keep up the great work Brother. 🇬🇧
Thanks man!

That 'Montage' jam is sick!

Glad to see that you are wearing your osha compliant steel toed crocs!! Remember safety third!!!….. always! 😆

You might try multiple cans of John deere starting fluid while screaming obscenitys followed by a long redline? Like old peg leg zip ties n bias plies? 😂
That's my usual technique just didn't pay off this time
Wayne, I’m with you. I don’t see how that didn’t shred the shit out of those gears with all those bolts fallen through there.
Got lucky i guess!
@@Ol2Stroker sometimes we do. Love your channel Wayne.👍👍👍
A real mechanic uses all their senses 😂
I like that used an impact...a rachit...a rachit wrench....an a regular wrench....💪💪👍👍
Hi Wayne at least it's not locked up. If it don't wanna start blame it on the beer ! Enjoy your weekend !
Hadta be the beer!!
Sorry Wayne good luck keep warm buddy
Thanks man you too
Maybe them Neutral Drop boys got a hold of it…screws in the pan!

giver the Cosby sauce
I gave it enough to have plenty of epstein opportunities with it if i wanted. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ooh Wayne those D50 GM Delco Alternators are HEAVY for sure and changed my share working on buses
The under-truck shot in the intro made me realize just how sketchy cars are, like, we have this huge rotating metal rod underneath us that could come apart catastrophically any second and cause a fatal accident, and it's held in place basically by some thin lock rings that are allegedly made of metal, and a prayer.
That's actually epic.
Hahahaha I never thought of it like that.
Another Great Video, Wayne. Hopefully it will self heal in the weeds and run like a top on the next appearance. At least you have a known good ECM on the Firetruck engine if needed. I guess you can’t win them all. Stay Warm.
you could build a pyramid with that 2x4 technique!!!
I know right!!
I lose sleep over bolts falling into the geartrain. Seen water pump bolt tear up the front of an EMD and blower drive gear bolt tear up the front of an old Cleveland. Thanks for the video man, always a treat!
These old girls like to shake themselves apart don't they? I passed on a 6BT Cummins recently because the dowel pin dropped and the gears caught it. Teeth missing off gears through the PS/vacuum pump hole and a hard stop when I was barring it over made me save my money. Then my dumb ass got another one full of moisture instead.😂 Anyway, thread locker works.
@@ChevyConQueso The big EMDs and Clevelands don't shake but have valve train failure usually from improper instalation of parts. Can't speak for the Detroits though.
Thanks for sharing
Another 10 out of 10 video Wayne! I absolutely love watching you step by step try and resurrect these old engines. Keep em coming!
Thanks!!
If I didn't cry over the damper, I'm not going to cry over a double 90.
I worked on those exact assembly's for 32 years, Alternator did suck doin in the bus, you layed on the floor and reached thru an access hole
no thanks!
By your self a lottery ticket dude. Shit you lucked out 🍻🇺🇸
No kidding!!!
I bought a Perkins powered light plant a while back, after we had that bad winter storm in Texas. Guy looked at me funny when I opened the radiator, stuck my finger in, tasted it, and spit. Antifreeze has an unmistakable nasty sweet flavor. I didn't wanna get hosed with a cracked block, and it was hard to see color due to settling. It almost never gets that cold here, and people run light on antifreeze compared to what you yankees have to run. Even where I was at near San Antone that day, it got close to 0° at times.
Smart man!
Except for the accessory drive and the beat up oil pan, that motor actually looked pretty clean inside. Hopefully you can get the fuel issue worked out, and you'll have another working *8V-92. With all the gears in the back of those, I'm amazed that at least 1 of those bolts didn't knock a few teeth off somewhere.😯
I can't believe the geartrain survived. Its an 8v92 btw 😁
Hey Wayne, At 14:40 and 14:44 there is some tooth damage, thanks for the vid
@@Ol2Stroker that's a miracle ,, i'm working on a 6BT cummins a neighbor gave me ,, was a pump engine that had a mysterious failure according to the farmer ,,guy said it jumped time ???? jumped time ,,that's BAD cause that's all gears ,,,my suspicions were confirmed today when i pulled the gear cover ,,, the killer dowel pin ( KDP ) killed it ,,,needless to say this engine might run again , but it needs every gear in the train including the oil pump replaced,,, for someone unfamiliar with the killer dowel pin ,,this was a problem with the 12 valve cummins and the early 24 valves too ,, the centering dowel pin that aligns the front gear case with the engine block will work loose and fall into the timing gears,,the fix for this was a hold back clip and bolt that kept the pin in place
@@wildcoyote34 yea im familiar with those and that failure. Oof.
@@Ol2Stroker yea it's my first one i have encountered ,, the last cummins i worked on already had the KDP fixed ,,i just messaged a guy on marketplace that had a good core for a reasonable price ,,all i need are the timing gear set and the gear case ,,his dead engine had a hydrolock falure ,, told me it had a bad head gasket and that caused a bent conrod ,, but i think he got water in it , i have had several diesels blow a head gasket and neveer hydrolocked
Good try mate, cant wait to here this old girl puff and chuff. Looking fwd to hearing it and finding out the cause of it Not running. Cheers.
Wayne, get a electric fuel pump and hook it to the fuel pump suction to prime them, works like a charm I just did it today when it was 10° out to get the air out of the fuel pump.
I know it i need to rig something up
Ya Greyhound loved those Detroits Wayne. They're all over in the Buses.
What a rook,,,, waiting for part two ,,,,
Hi Wayne from Yorkshire England the studs in the sump
Great video Wayne glad to see it's turns over after you found the noise behind the alternator. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Wayne.

That brought back memories. I had an old Eagle with a 6V92T . I loved driving the old thing.
The montage was winning Bud👌🏻🤘🏻🇺🇸

Awesome save.
You got lucky no core now lolol 🤣 from Illinois

A for effort 😊 looking forward to seeing you dig this back out of the weeds! Wild that those screws didn't cause seeable damage to those teeth 😳
Those friggen teeth are in better shape than mine! 🤣🤣🤣
@@Ol2Stroker 🤣🤣🤣I got 9 left...
Close. A few weeks in the weeds might shame it into submission.
She just needs a winter hibernation 😂
My thoughts exactly
from the looks of that oil pan the bus ran down the road for a while with no wheels
inside of the engine is real clean
Wayne ... I love you got leaves back on your trees already LOL ... have you looked outside
Bahahhaahhah i sure wish it was this nice out still!
🤣@@Ol2Stroker
My $$$ is on previous ECM damage. I see this was before the concrete pad, so understandable your running out of time to F with it. Seeing what the rotating stuff looked like, I'm guessing it will at least be an okay running engine, once you sort out the electronics. Nothing but fun my brother...at least for your viewers! Thanks for the show!
Another great video Wayne. You tha man
Thanks for the show Wayne, yes I would like to see it running please 🍻🇦🇺
Me too
If you come across an old day cab with a running 6-71 or 8v-71 maybe you could rent it to me for a couple of months......I'm just too old to do what you do but have always loved the sound of the 71 series.
They sound so good!!!
Thank you Wayne, this one has me paying attention.
I' ll wait happily 😉
Damn, we got 25 degrees to teens & lite snows with gusts in Columbia MO
Edit,😅Right, pre slab....
yea i've had this on deck for awhile.
Scored a 3-53 the other day, runs pretty swell, no blow by.. it’s great, scored a 4-71 a few months ago that was rebuilt 30 years ago. Pickled. And stuffed in the guys garage for his sawmill, and it real nice, the 5 before that, all skanked out haha. Win some loose some
Yup, all part of the game. These ones makes the wins that much sweeter!
Was it the 3-53 for sale near Missoula, MT? I wanted to get that a few days ago and it was sold right before I had the chance to make it down lol
@@stubbsshop upper peninsula of mi, wasn’t for sale, just a private deal I stumbled across
There’s no doubt in my mind that you will make it run!
For sure!!!
We aint never not made it yet!!
Uncle Wayno love it when you're doing the sketchy shit❤
Pretty much an every day thing
I have had that mysterious rattle in my 8V92 for 25 thousand miles. Sounds just like your alternator mount . I really hate to pull it, but better than losing an engine , almost zero clearance from the firewall in my diesel pusher motorhome.
Definitely worth the trouble to investigate!!
Dang what a pile of junk. GREAT VIDEO
Thanks!
Never knew any 2 strokes were ddec. Try to learn something everyday. Now im good for the day

That's a drag when they don't light off on their own, but oh well...
We'll get er next time!
Damn Wayne that is really good shit 😂
You will get it running.
There's a bus here in Florida for sale I seen on marketplace with a Detroit 6v92 or something like that.
First thing I thought of you.
I'll have to save your email to send stuff like the one I seen. 😊
Absolutely
@Ol2Stroker 👍
I'll see if I can find it again. The post said it ran. But inside was made into a tattoo parlor at one point. Lol
It don't look the best anymore.

Badass!! They're fun!
Damn Wayne what did you bring home this time.
Junk!
I'd run a buy atleast 5 lottery tickets 😅😂😂
The best salvage video I've seen on anybody's channel . That alternator drive has a harmonic balancer built in ? And was that specificly on a 92 only ? When I first saw the tapered heads of those screws in the oil pan, I wondered where they could have come from ? Good to see my throttle petal is being used .
That drive coming apart was impressive if he hadn't of recorded it no one would believe him
thats what i'm saying!!! one in a million the engine survived that.

There’s a running v16 duetz w900 for sale here in wa
I know where there is an 8/92 that's 500hp and runs great. It is in a 1996 fire truck and has a Alison trany. He was asking 15000 for it, but is having health problems and would probably take less now!
15k is way outa my budget!!

Mine too!
I'd think you could probably buy one surplus for a lot less
@@AlanRoehrich9651 they have been outrageous surplus lately.
I was hoping to see some video of the new V12 truck?
How about next week?
@@Ol2Stroker As long as its not on Peacock like the GREEDY NFL....
You could grab a DDEC 3 or 4 and convert it if you have the DDCT software... Even if you have the old cams with the old firing order, if you know what you're doing to can program the DDEC 3/4 to work with it. Every DDEC 2 you find is going to be hot garbage or gold-plated.
there was a firing order change?
@@Ol2Stroker Yeah the DDEC 1's actually used the mechanical cams and somewhere in the DDEC 2 run they changed them, and the firing order was changed.
I know they changed the 6V firing order for sure, maybe they didn't do the 8V? I'll have to dig to figure that one out.
@@porkbuttrocks ill pull up a couple tune files ... That would mean cams and shit are different also...
@@Ol2Stroker Cams are different for sure. If you've got a shot of the data plate/sticker I can try to look up the numbers in my books.
Like #54. Im about 10 min into the vidya and I dint hear you say if its an 871 or an 892. Maybe you said it at the same time I crack'd open my beer. 😆🍺
8v92
For what it's worth, I believe that was 8-92 on the breather...
YES -- SMOO
What software for the laptop are you using. To run that killer test rig setup
Ive seen you use software with several ECMs. Do they all use a standard communication protocol or something? Or do you need specific files and sw for each engine?
You need specific software for each but the nexiq connects to em all
Forgive my ignorance, but could it have something to do with those electrical connections you were having trouble with? Had a similar issue with one of my vehicles, and it turned out I didn't exactly align the quick disconnect, and one pin wasn't making good contact. Just a thought.
,,, my KW alternator lost one volt from 13.8 down to 12.8 , let the weeds grow up and ground it , and back up to 13.8 .
OSHA approved Crocs bawhahahaha
@Ol2Stroker: Which software are you using to read the ECM and where can a fellow get it?
I dunno where to get it but i use DDRS and DDDL
Had that been a pre DDEC, thisbvideo would have been 1/2 this long.
Is that an 8v71 or a 92 Wayno?
do we need to send peg to your house to show you how to operate a can of starting fluid???
Yeah..those 50DN alternators r choice... ha
Choice ain't the word!
Is there supposed to be a little play on that cam gear? When you were spinning motor by hand she looked a little sloppy?
I have a question Wayne.
Hypothetically, could you build a twin turbo 12V71 DDEC with aftercoolers under twin bypass blowers?
I was looking about the place and found a PDF that showed an 8V71TA rated at 370hp. I didn't however see if there was a 6V71TA version, nor did it mention bypass blowers.
I assume it is pre DDEC but I got wondering if a 71 series V12 could have aftercooling, twin bypass blowers and DDEC?
I don't see why not
I think a 12V71 would need two computers.
It could be done, but it won't be cheap, or easy.
I don't think the 12V71 will get to the power to weight ratio of an 8V92. Not with similar equipment.
Did that come out of a bus or tug boat?
Bus.
Sometimes you win and sometimes not unless you don't try then you never win. What's your day job?

Hmmm lemme go look. If you're right that means i missed it twice!
@Wolfe351 sonofabitch.... you know I personally did all this work AND edited the fucking video and still managed to miss that not once, not twice but probably 10 times! Ha! Good eye!
What does Wayne do for a living?
Play, Even while on the clock .
at 15 min into it she runs
the DDEC/ATEC combo really sux
Damn the pan has. A dent in it some one fucked up who ever the mechanic who worked on. It should be fired wane
That was the first thing I noticed as well that pan is toasted.
30:39 Looks like a case of the ole' shitty dodge wiring
Hi Wayne... It's Brian from Western NY with a quick ask - possible tip.. Have you done the research on that ECM as to where if it keeps an eye out for a sine wave signal from the alternator or even possibly a hall effect signal from the same? If so, you may have shot yourself in the foot by doing the delete. I overshoot the mark on certain projects that take a bite out of my ass later on...
Ddec doesn't use any of that. It gets its rpm and position from the trs and srs sensors in the front of the engine. Good thought though
@@Ol2Stroker Appreciate the reply. Will be interesting to know what you find out. And thanks for the content. Love the channel. Kinda funny watching a fellow up-stater censor himself all the time thanks to the rules...
