  • For the sake of "Nuclear Alert", Germany Increases Orders for F-35A Lightning II Stealth Fighter Jets.
Germany is reportedly considering acquiring more F-35A fighter jets produced by Lockheed Martin. The German government is currently evaluating whether to strengthen the Bundeswehr (German armed forces) with the addition of a number of these advanced aircraft. The Ministry of Defense and the Luftwaffe (Air Force) have identified a need for these jets, and the military has suggested purchasing eight to ten additional F-35s.
These jets will complement (add to) the fleet of 35 F-35s that have been ordered from the United States. The main consideration for additional orders is based on the availability of F-35 jets stationed in Buchel.
The F-35 is recognized as the most advanced fighter jet in the world today. The German Air Force would primarily operate the F-35A to share the “Nuclear Alert” mission, a strategy in which the Luftwaffe would deploy the US B61 nuclear gravity bombs stored at Büchel if necessary. Previously, this capability was fulfilled by the Panavia Tornado fighter jet which was nearing the end of its operational life.
In terms of performance, the F-35 can reach a maximum speed of 1,700 km per hour (Mach 1.6+), with an altitude of 18,500 m. Combat radius varies between models: 1,080 km for the F-35A, 869 km for the F-35B, and 1,138 km for the F-35C, with endurance exceeding 2,800 km. The aircraft has a thrust to weight ratio of greater than 1 and can support a load factor of +9 G for the F-35A and +7 G for the F-35B and F-35C.
The F-35 is equipped with a 25 mm GAU-22 cannon with 180 rounds (in an external pod for the F-35B), and has two weapons bays each housing two pylons for a total of 2,800 kg of internal armament. . It also has 6 external masts capable of supporting up to 6,800 kg of ordnance. In terms of avionics, the aircraft is equipped with AN/APG-81 radar and AN/AAQ-37 IR sensor, offering advanced detection and targeting capabilities.
