  • When it comes to EDC Knives as style pieces the folding cleaver is in! Gerber’s FlatIron has been extremely popular ever since its release last year, and now Kershaw has entered the fray with the new KVT-equipped Static. Which of these cleavers would you carry? Tell us in the comments.

    Static all day, just got mine in the mail. More comfortable and ergonomic for an edc application, ball bearing washers, flipper tab, deep carry pocket clip, slightly better steel, plus Kershaw’s frame lock which is unparalleled in the mid range budget knife market.

    I have the Static but not the Flatiron. The stonewash would be nice because the 8cr of the Static is already showing scratches pretty bad after 2 days of carrying. I'm a knife junkie so I'm sure I'll pick up a Flatiron eventually I just wish Gerber would use better steels on their budget knives but love the new designs from both companies. 2 of my family favorites for generations in my family, Kershaw and Gerber

    I own both and I like them. But the static is better since it pops out and folds easily. Very light and easy to use. The Flat iron is more bigger, doesn’t fold well or as fast, and not easy on hand as static. Both great but static is more easy and fast to use, and lightweight.

  • @robertkaschner1655
    @robertkaschner1655 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I wanted a knife like the flatiron for years so when i discovered it, I bought it right away. Big mistake, the quality was horrible. Framelock was ground wrong so it locks up badly (not even close to matching up with the blade's grind), edge on the blade is ground at a coarse angle from the factory, pocket clip is either not heat treated at all or just done terribly (it with bend permanently rather than behaving as a spring). Even the arrestor plate is just there to make up for the lack of heat treat.
    I've bought knifes for 4 dollars that put the flatiron to shame. Never again will I buy a Gerber.
    A Kershaw Emerson I bought was fantastic though, so maybe I'll give the static a try.

    I think I'd prefer the Static. To bother buying one, I'd need it lighter and sporting a better blade steel, like 14c28n or N690. Much rather have G-10 or even FRN scales over heavy SS.
    Do it in LC200N with micarta scales and I'd buy it for sure. That would make a great food prep knife for camping or a backpack.

    I realised that I actually have never needed to actually cut cardboard. Yiu can use a small kitchen knife to cut the gate joints, then fold and dispose of the cardboard. So literally their is never a reason to ever have a folding knife.
