I recently subscribed but I started watching your videos in PA. I can relate to you completely as my husband and I are slowly section hiking the AT. I can tell you that when I am between hikes I can't wait to get out there and I really enjoy the hikes, but knowing that in 3 or 4 days I can be back home to my bed and cats helps make it all worth while. My husband will ask me if I want to thru-hike the trail one day and I confidently say no. I love doing the sections and I support you and will continue to watch your videos as I really enjoy your presentation and your comments. We have reached 900 miles starting with the approach trail and I look forward to the day I can finish the entire trail on my terms that make me happy and I am glad you have found what makes you happy because that is what is most important. Keep on hiking your way!!

BEAUTIFULLY spoken. And I think you give a very honest and real reality about what it's like the hike the trail. I relate deeply to the two sides at war. I cry every night with intense anxiety, tired of my mice running around my tent, the bears stealing my bag, lack of sleep and lack of enough calories. It just ALL adds up. I met this lady that said, "how could life be hard when all you have to do is hike?" I chuckled because the hiking portion is beautiful... But that's one factor in the journey. Thanks for being so raw and real. Self awareness is such a powerful thing.

I don’t know if you’re a thru hiker or a day hiker or a section hiker or a lasher or a flip-flipper…..what I DO KNOW for sure, is that you are incredibly brave, strong, and a total BADASS.
Hike Your Own Hike, for me, applies to life. So much happens in life that is beyond our control. You are in control of this. Hike when it makes you happy, and hike wherever you choose! Life is too short, my dear, to dwell on failure. In the end, your feelings of success and fulfillment will not come from a hike on a dirt trail, but from this thru-hike of life. You are a blessing to so many. Your heart shines, your honesty and strength and courage are admirable. So go on with your bad self!! Hike your own hike! YOLO!
P.S. I’m a 60 yr old huge fan of Justin Timberlake!

No need to apologize at all. I get it. I've wanted to thru hike the AT for many, many, years. The plan all along was to do so when the kids were out (still another 8 years or so). I've recently come to the decision (after not even attempting the thru) that I don't want to be away from my husband, furbabies, and family (maybe kids, lol) for that long. There's plenty of suck to embrace every day, I want my trail time journey to bring me joyful memories, not just an end result. My goal is to section hike the trail as well, starting this summer with CT. My husbands ideal vacation is Disney, can't say I agree lol. I look forward to seeing your videos even more now (except Disney) that you will be section hiking. HAPPY trails Alicia.

Hey Alicia this is Kris the older guy that you ran into near Rich mtn fire tower when you were slacking south. The one thing that I didn’t tell you because you were in a good frame of mind at the time was that I regretted not finishing in ‘13 and that decision haunted me afterwards. I had the physical ability to finish then. In the years after life got in the way until this year when my wife gave me the green light. But I errored in being talked into arthroscopic knee surgery this past January as he said I would be healed in one month. I hiked two days at one mile per hour because of the knee pain and bailed out. I plan on starting again at Springer next February. I’m an RN and it’s my nature to help people. I’m off the soap box. Happy trails wherever that may lead you.

Love seeing you and of course you and Jordan. Can't wait to see other hiking sites you go to. You did NOT fail, you are doing the AT, just a different way. You will finish you proved your persistence to get it done. You have a full and fun list of things to do. Please be kind to yourself and give yourself the credit you deserve for doing something few can do (me). Sections are great, its aliitle of both worlds and allows you to save a little, then hike, the repeat. Cheering you on from NJ. Have fun in Disney,

I want to Thank you for all your strength and honesty on trail! I look forward to follow you through your new adventures. You have given me strength and honestly the questions I have had about thru hiking were answered. It was like I was hiking with you and going through it with you. You are so wonderful and love that you follow your heart and not do something that didn't feel right. You are so strong, you are just amazing! God bless you for following your heart and seeking out your truth within! I hike with my dogs and I would be lost without them at my side! I understand not being with my husband and dogs with me. Praying for many new hikes and you continue Section hike of the AT on your channel. I love to have my coffee in the morning and watch your videos! Great job and enjoy the time off work! Adirondacks my favorite place, you may consider the NPT(138 mikes)or Cranberry 50. Your AT plan great too ! You get the completion patch if you hike it in a year or chip off for what suits you. Just Enjoy:) So looking forward for all you have to offer on this channel. You have done a amazing job 500 miles that’s the Colorado trail! Please don’t feel you failed. You are an amazing person. As for the thru hike, I revert to my comment on the last video. I think it's exciting the way you are planning on finishing the AT and also the other plans for the channel.
As for the not eating much on trail. I have a similar problem. Doesn't matter if I'm out for 3 days or 3 weeks. I eat much less. I don't really get hungry. But, I know I need to for energy and such. What I've found that works for me is I try to plan all my meals and snacks around protein and calories. Because I don't eat much the protein really helps with that lasting energy that the sugary snacks just don't provide. I try to include some kind of protein for breakfast, and dinner. I don't really take a lunch. I snack between the other 2. For my snacks I like to have something like a trail mix that also has some fruit and chocolate in it. You may want to try something like that a few times on trail. Focus on protein first then calories. It really helped me a ton! The protein really helped with the energy and at the end of the day I found I'm not as sore. Also, you can add vegetable oil to just about everything! Including coffee! Helps get a few more calories without having to down a donut. Just some ideas maybe you could try to see if it helps you. Anyway, looking forward to whatever comes next!

You have lots of guts for being so open as to what your background reasons are regarding the trail decision. Sometimes time is required to make big decisions so taking three days to consider all options was correct. I don't think through hiking can be 'adopted' as an aim if a person isn't totally committed.
Take a break. Short hikes in future will be manageable as you will get a nutritional and hydration plan to suit your body requirements. Multiple days can be built up in suitable weather conditions where your body isn't under stress from heat or excessive daily distance. You could try dehydrating your own meals so that at least one balanced main meal was of good quality so you actually want to eat it. Sugar spikes and drops are not good on the body for long days hiking.
Whatever, in future months, you can work out all the details for you to work up to successfully section hiking without any pressure to complete a through hike in a particular time frame.

The big struggle for me, when I try this, is gonna be heat for SURE. So I can relate to that definitely. I feel as if I can hike forever when it's cold, but once it gets to 70F I start whining LOL. And I have issues with cold hands and feet, so even though I love the cold weather, it's not as if I could safely start in Feb. So that's my main fear. I think you made the best decision for YOU. You LASH that thing! Nothing wrong with that! :-)

In my mind, the whole idea of hiking is to enjoy nature, have that peace to let your mind wander and really find out who you are. I am a day hiker and I love it! I personal feel it doesn’t matter “ how” you hike. It can be an hour, a day a week a month… it doesn’t matter. If you find that peace, you are doing it right. So stop ripping on yourself. You did the right thing. If you are not getting that enjoyment then why torture yourself? There is NOTHING wrong about section hiking it! What is the point if you hurt so bad and are mentally struggling? I think you cowboyed up and called it. Very few people would be as brave and strong to realize “ hey..I’m not having fun” and rethink their goal. On another note… I travel last summer to Europe and had no issues coming or going. If you guys can, I would definitely look to visiting Chur in the Netherlands. I can not even tell you how beautiful. The alps are breathtaking. Also a suggestion… I think you should think about posting Jorden and his trail running adventures. I would be very interested in learning more about that. One last thoughts… your videos have helped me a lot. I have a huge list of equipment you suggested. I took your advice and got the Hoka 4 speed goats to help with my foot issues. Definitely better than my oboz so thank you for that! Looking forward to more of your adventures!

You are a perfect example of the saying "hike your own hike", if it takes 2 years to hike it all, so what. Do what is best for you. I'm a day hiker so I'm hiking

I think it’s only natural at this stage to feel upset and a level of disappointment. To suggest that someone be only cheerful, proud and happy (it’s like telling a woman to smile because she’ll be prettier if she does)… and not feel or talk about any negative emotions at the same time is not realistic. I pride myself being 100% real & authentic so that others don’t feel so alone in what they might be feeling - this includes people who might choose to end their thru hike for whatever reason. I don’t want to censor myself in order to appear differently on my channel to appease viewers who don’t like my raw emotion. I’ve had too many people tell me how much they appreciate my honesty and transparency. I appreciate your encouraging words that 400 miles is something to be proud of & I should feel good about myself. I agree - but I won’t hide the other side of that. That’s not who I am.
