Sorry to hear what has happened. For some context, for Singaporean kids in that age range this exam mean the world to them because the education system is very specifically designed to be that way - it is effectively the only viable means of social mobility in the country. It is not dissimilar to the 'GaoKao' in China. After many years and despite talk of educational reform it is not encouraging to hear that the system is still putting students through the grinder. The other context I would mention is that Singapore kids would find camping or hiking a very foreign concept if they had never had an experience overseas or joined scouts or girl guides because Singapore is more or less an urban concrete jungle. In fact, my own personal experience with camping was only when I stumbled across a Kathmandu store Down Under and found lots of interesting gear. I hope that your Appalachian trip has gone well! Unfortunately the tallest hill we have in Singapore is Bukit Timah Hill at only 164m.

Hi, from Singapore, you don't need apology, it is not your fault, I don't understand why they confuse your voice to the exam voice. If you come to Singapore, you can go MacRitchie Reservoir or Bukit Timah Hill for hiking.

Hello, Singaporean here! I’m surprised how fast the students managed to find your channel after the paper. For your info, the listening paper was set in Britain( in collaboration with Cambridge). The voice actors and actresses uses a thicker accent compared to the typical ones. This is one of the reasons why the Singaporeans don’t like the paper since it counts 30% of the total score. Nevertheless, don’t let the hate comments get to u since it’s a pure confidence that they used your setting for the question. I personally find your voice calming and im sure the voice in the paper was not the same as yours. so continue to keep up the good work and all the best! ;) And to the Singaporeans reading this: I failed my English when I took my Os and i partially blamed LC for that. I still carried on with life despite my poor results so don’t feel discouraged if you didn’t get the results u wanted:) You will reach your goals and dreams eventually!

I am sure there are loads of people who find this content useful, and interesting but for me ... 🥱 after 20 seconds. I can understand the hate mail from the students even though it was misguided. On the bright side, I might be getting a "Sea to Summit Mosquito Head Net" cause of the mozzies. Yes I did watch most of the video ... who knows i might go on a 100-mile Appalachian trail hike one day, and I'll be back here.

I find it so funny that SG students are assuming that 1. This is the same Alicia heard in LC(voice is completely different) 2. This is directly lifted from the videos(SEAB won’t copy and paste from video to paper) 3. That threatening this poor Alicia changes anything

Although not a nice experience to be receiving some nasty comments, I hope this have helped created awareness for your channel, and keep sharing stuff you’re passionate about! I'm not a part of the cohort who took the exam, but I am appalled by what my fellow students have done. Being a student myself, of course I understand the stress of dealing with difficult examinations, but that is in no way a justification for attacking an innocent person online. I think you're so strong and patient for dealing with the hate comments with an empathetic lens, and I respect you so much for that! ❤ But really, you don't have to apologise for anything. You did nothing wrong! Those commenters should be the one apologising to you! Got directed to this video after reading a news report and was outraged by the students' actions. As a Singaporean I am appalled by the comments made by the students. We all been through the O Levels before but even if its tough that is no reason to be nasty to someone who does not even have anything to do with the exam! The haters really need to be more sensitive and mindful. Alicia, please ignore the haters, Im sure that they are just a vocal minority who like to fault others for their own failures. Im sure there are many other students who are much more sensible, and we would love to welcome you to Singapore with open arms any time.
