I Took Home a $350,000 Aston Martin DBS and I'm Shocked... | Review

  • As of now, the 2023 Aston Martin DBS is no longer called the DBS Superleggera. Apparently named to honor the coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, down to using the exact same font, it left people confused why a two-ton vehicle was named "super light". Nevertheless, the Aston Martin DBS is an absolutely incredible machine built to shock you with every press of the throttle.
    It may also be one of the best looking Aston Martins of all time. The interior is beautiful, but the tech is outdated and frustrating.
    About the grading system:
    All grades are relative to a car's respective category. For example: an SUV's score cannot be compared to a sportscar's. Different segments are graded differently.
    I lean toward and prioritize performance on my scale. Suspension reflects the balance between handling and firmness of the ride, but also varies based on class of car (i.e. a luxury SUV is all about luxury, therefore suspension score is graded based on luxury and not handling). Power is about straight-line speed, which is affected by power-to-weight. Interior takes into account aesthetics, ergonomics, material and build quality. Design is highly subjective and nothing but personal preference. Likewise, so is sound and the bonus score.

    I bought this car about 6 months ago. I am fortunate to have/had quite a few exotics. You are pretty spot on with many of your observations. I will add as an owner, its one of the few cars I’ve had that actually gets more exciting to drive the longer you have it. Also, the sound in track mode is completely different than s or s+, and if throttled in track mode you would probably have bumped up your exhaust note score to a 9 (I would even give it a 9.5!) The greatest beauty of this “brute in a suit” is it understated elegance. Its manageable enough in GT mode to drive around town or enjoy a relaxed drive to go out, but put it in track made and its a beast that my neighbors hate hearing at 2 am (fortunately were all good friends and car enthusiasts!). Thanks for the great video

    • @lockingdiff
      @lockingdiff  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The drive modes only go from GT > Sport > Sport+, both sport modes opened up the exhaust to the same note. I didn't see any option for a Track mode. Googling around, I can't seem to find such an option for the DBS, only the Vantage?

    • @gregorycostello239
      @gregorycostello239 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry, I meant GT, Sport and Sport +, I have a bad habit of calling it track mode from my other cars. The exhaust opens up the same between S and S+, but the s+ sound is so much more aggressive and louder due to the much more aggressive downshifts!

      @@a004 It is very comfortable and has a very luxurious feel in it. Not exactly the usual modern exotic care interior . However, I can tell you that when you sit in it, the look, feel (and smell) of the leather, the stitching on the seats and headliner, the seams etc are exquisitely done and very noticeable. It is immediately obvious that you are sitting in a cabin, that a lot of work, skill and time was put into. The appearance of infotainment system is dated and ugly and not worthy of all the craftsmanship put into the cabin.

    One thing people always neglect to mention in this car. The sound system is the best sounding system in any car I have ever owned. I had Apple car play added to mine but its not a great idea since there is no touch screen. I rarely use it unless I am using navigation.

    • @lockingdiff
      @lockingdiff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! The audio is amazing! It's hard to convey how good it is, especially since you can't play any copyrighted music on a channel or it gets flagged and demonetized. But you are correct, it's great.

    • @gregorycostello239
      @gregorycostello239 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im not sure if I have had that issue. I use either apple play with Spotify, or if I dont use Appleplay, I just use Spotify via Bluetooth to the main system, but I have never had any issues with either way

    • @gregorycostello239
      @gregorycostello239 ปีที่แล้ว

      can you please explain the Copyrighted music issue. I use Spotify through the main system and have no problems at all. I use Appleplay at time, with Spotify and also no issues. I must say having Aston put Appleplay was not the best move. Without a touch screen its a pain, and I really only use it for navigation because I hate the Mercedes Infotainment system. I could handle all that, but its a little wonky especially if using it wirelessly. It will knock me out of the system etc at random times!!

    Pretty car but IMO, I think the benefits on this car versus a competitor, say the F12, is that this is a true GT car. I mean, you can fit some bags in it, take a long road trip and it would be plush and comfortable for an over the road car. But honestly, it does little to move the soul IMO.
    I'm watching F12 prices carefully as I think the market may collapse into year end where I can pick one up on the cheap, relatively speaking of course.

    WTF is going on with tyre pressures? they have the biggest impact on ride/comfort as well as traction !!, No f/g wonder you're wheel spinning like crazy all the time - as if 715bhp is not enough. I cannot believe ANY tyre manufacturer recommends anything more than 40psi = even this is too high. let alone 40 or 50..

    • @lockingdiff
      @lockingdiff  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's becoming more and more commonplace, these days. But yes, it's an insane amount of PSI. I believe the weight of the car and the size of the sidewall plays a role in that too. My McLaren which barely weighs 3100lbs has a required PSI of about 32. My new M4 requires 34. 49 is insane. You can lower them and reset the threshold to a lower setting so that the TPMS light doesn't come on. If I recall correctly, my Jaguar F-Type R had 2 settings: 36 PSI and 46 PSI which you could switch between.

      This car in the video is 2.5 years old and still retails for $280K. The DBS holds its value very well. Vantage and DB11 do not.

    It would be nice if when you drive the car, you can see the drivers POV. Some guy with a dress shirt reving the engine saying "oh boy" doesnt tell me anything as to how the car performs.
    Oh wait. Driving a car. 🤔 isnt that the point of owning one? 🤔 why would anyone want see how it performs on all fronts?

      DBS' haven't depreciated much at all, fortunately/unfortunately (depending on who you ask). This one was pre-owned and still worth nearly $280K. The DB11, on the other hand...yeah.

    I couldn't watch this video right to the end due to the unnecessary and infuriating music that runs in the background all the time. Why do content creators do this?

    • @lockingdiff
      @lockingdiff  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a fairly proven method of content creation to aid the video. It's 'instrumental', at 3% in the background, pretty inoffensive, and never once obstructs my voice. 🤷‍♀

    What do you think residuals are like on these?
    I really have to be careful with cars as they are a lot of money for me, so I tend to finance and rely on residuals to essentially get most of what I have paid back, then change for something else provided that car is one that will hold well enough for a year or so.
    I tend to stick with naturally aspirated engines as they tend to do a lot better holding value.
    Thanks!

    • @lockingdiff
      @lockingdiff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If AM is true to their word about not having a V12 in the DB12, then this would be Aston's last DB production vehicle available with a V12. So it should hold its value, if that is the case.
