Used to work in an arcade I can confirm that the plush we used for machines were from companies that bought and sold plush in bulk. They would come in these huge boxes barely held together with tape and were stuffed to bursting with the most random characters. My favorite I ever brought home was a cut the rope plush! :D
I love the histories of prototype toys! I went to a small toy convention earlier in the year, and came across a vendor selling Kenners Care Bear figures that have moveable limbs. I wanted Grams Bear (she had almost no merch outside her original plushie also by kenners) and the vendor sold it to me for $10. Upon closer look after leaving the con, I found that the grams figure had unpainted limbs (you could tell it wasnt just painted white) i think i got a prototype of her figure for a good price! (The same vendor sold me an 80's care bear cousins lots a heart elephant for $40 in perfect condition, ALSO by Kenners)
Im glad someone validated me about the sonic figures. I had loads. They broke so often i held a contest to see which one would be the last to lose a piece 😂
Recently prototypes of two unreleased and previously never before seen TAWOG plushes from 2014 appeared on eBay. A 19" Gumball Backpack plush and a Darwin Zipper Coin Purse. Images, links to the listings, and info on who now owns said plushes can be found on the Gumball wiki's Merchandise page. Pretty cool though to have yet another 2 lost prototype plushes that we otherwise wouldn't have known about be found, documented, and given a safe home where they'll be looked after!
I had a Mung plush as a kid, definitely found it at a goodwill in wv. My grandma went through and donated a ton of my plushies, so it probably ended up back in a goodwill.. long time ago now tho.. 😪
Also, I think it's interesting that somewhere out there someone might have a piece of lost media and not even realize it's lost to everyone else, like a figure or a copy of a movie no one has (or a lost Doctor Who episode lol).
About the Gorillaz one, the figurine in the hewll photo is not the 2D puppet. It’s a separate and much smaller poseable doll and there are other pictures of it. The puppets apparently were almost human sized.
I've been looking for the chowder and flapjack plushies for a little bit and I'm happy that you made another collectibles video cuz I miss these videos that you make
As someone who really loves puppets and animatronics, I do fully believe that unfortunately the Gorillaz puppets have probably deteriorated since rubber faced puppets (which they appear to be) have to be kept in cool low light areas so the rubber doesn't become brittle and basically disintegrate but they often aren't after their promotional use is over :(
I must say, I always love listening to jaxcheese's music in the background of these videos. Their compositions are very evocative of the 16-bit era soundtracks of old in a way that is very nostalgic and pleasant to the ears. They help bring a lot of charm to this channel's lost media videos.
sometimes plush samples and prototypes, or samples & protos of any kind, get sold in bulk as you said in the video for really cheap prices. the best bet for finding any lost plush samples would have to be claw machines, or arcade prizes.
Here's one for the books: LEGO Island was going to have a plush of the main character, Pepper Roni, but only one image of the plush ever made any rounds, and at that, not much other information - which company, which year, would there have been more? The only clue is that the design of the figure is based on the second game, which released in 2001. But the background has the original logo font from 1997.
Ah lego island. There are a-lot of toys out there that are made pre release so not everything is on model, perhaps the assets for the second game weren’t done yet while it was being made? Fascinating nonetheless
I was so sad to see my fave Booberry not found but immediatly got happy with that update 🤩 i may not own him but him bein enjoyed makes me happy. Its so cute. Id put a hat on him too
First, Thank you for the compilation! Definitely gonna put this on while I chill tonight. Second, seeing updates on the chowder plushes brings back such a strong nostalgia. My first fulltime job back in 2017 was at a place that created merch for vending machines and redemption (prize counters, fair prizes, claw machines, etc). Most of these items were from licensed properties, and I was a graphic/toy designer. Came across your vids while searching for something to listen to while at work, and as soon as I saw the flapjack vid I remember rushing to our Showroom and trying to act inconspicuous while scanning all our licensed plush to see if we had any. As it would turn out, though, Kellytoy was actually one of our competitors so we were never going to have their merch in our showroom lolll Hopefully something else of these gets found! If it helps at all, since some of these ended up in the wild then they were possibly not prototypes and were actually sold in bulk to these fairs/companies who needed merch for crane machines/etc. Because we sold our stuff in bulk and wanted to keep it as affordable as possible for vendors, we'd often have to find ways around things that would take more production time/resources. So stuff like specifying buttons/patterns/pockets or clothing details be printed rather than actual 3D items or embroidery. Even things like ears and such would be a flat tough piece of felt instead of a plush piece. I think it was something about us having to pay per stitch but I cant quite fully remember 🤔 That said, the stuff we would make with our budget would often look just barely finished enough to be a desirable purchase. But to anyone who has a discerning taste for licensed merchandise, it would give off a "nah that cant be the final product, thats gotta be a mockup right??" type of feeling. I cant remember if the flapjack plush were confirmed to be prototypes but if not, thats my reasoning for why they might've looked like some hahaa Anyway im literally 3 mins in the video lemme wrap this essay up so i can continue watching 😂
Happy Friday! Awesome compilation - Physical lost media // merchandise quickly became my very favorite, this is a fun surprise while I’m cooking dinner :o)) Thank you
4:35 the 'melting down' likely applies to the metal master molds or wax 'pilot skins', NOT the figures cast from them. You can't 'melt down' resin/plaster/etc, it's actually a hell of a lot more effort than it's worth to reuse stuff like this, especially if they're painted like these protos are. Most likely they were either discarded or remain with their designers or an internal archive of some kind.
If you do another video on more lost and found merchandise. You should talk about the cancelled Gravity Falls plushies from 2018. Which were going to be released alongside a second wave of plush from The Loud House that same year. But for unknown reasons WickedCoolToys cancelled both.
@@Milkshake-Bakes Yeah they were supposed to come out in 2018. These also would've given us a Dipper , Ford , Soos, Grunkle Stan, and Wendy as plush. There is a short by ThatGFFAN on one of my own playlists about Gravity Falls.
My mother is a hoarder. As sad as it is, she coped with some of her issues when I was little by buying "me" toys. She would go after the popular stuff, collectables, plushies, stuff like McDonald's toys, or anything she thought was neat. Even though I mostly just had two bags of toys I mostly played with. Anyway, there are boxes upon boxes of these toys from the 90s in a semi trailer on her property. Unfortunately mice has gotten into some of them and when we went through a little bit a few years back whole totes of stuffed animals got trashed because of it. Still, I bet there is some neat or lost stuff in that trailer OR upstairs in her house, but it's such a mass amount I wouldn't even know what was worth something or rare if I had it in front of me.
I collect powerpuff girl toys and the packaging on the Treasure Jewels Buttercup, Bedtime Bubbles, and Style Salon Blossom all show their distinctly different prototypes on the packaging! I wonder where those prototypes are all of the time!
also hey, having the pre production photos of some of these items, especially the plushies, someone who knows how to sew better than i do could probably make a few of these, to the best of their abilities... ofc they wouldn't be completely accurate to the vision but i think replicas of them would be quite cool to create as a craftsman myself.. EDIT: i wonder what materials could be used to make some of the other items, like the bendy ones... i guess clay wouldnt work but you probably would be able to make somewhat similar figurines that dont bend with it... i greatly enjoy toy making and dabble in doll making and other types of toys... so im just so invested in lost merchandising like this..
Im decent enough at sewing, and i've really considered recreating some lost plushies! Partly because i just think they're SO cool, and partly because i cant suppress the urge to make entirely fake "lost" plushies and do some trolling lol. But if i ever get into a position to be able to sell my work, i'd love to make some fans of the media all these lost plushies cam from happy🥺
I think it would be cool for them to relaunch the plushies now that the majority of the kids who grew on the shows are adults now. I see so many clothing and hobby shops/businesses advertised on Instagram that sell a lot of nostalgic cartoon merch and plushies. They've already gotten rid of Boomerang 😢 I'd love a little Flapjack one! I also remember seeing Gumball plush one of my siblings had gotten from an amusement park but I'm not sure what ended up happening to it as this was years ago.
another thing you could add to this list is a ton of unreleased prototype angry birds plushies were recently found, we had only super low quality photos of them for a decade but last year a youtuber managed to get his hand on ALL of them! i even own one now
In Finding Nemo, there’s a scene where the dentist is going to get Nemo in the bag to the little girl. There’s a song playing in the background that I think is lost media. I tried looking for it and I can’t find it. I believe it also gets played in the DVD play menu *AFTER* the commercials in the 2003 DVD….just putting it out there.
Also….i have a SpongeBob Easter cup that lit up from 2012 that I can’t find on the internet and either. Maybe it’s lost merchandise? Where can I send a photo???
Did anyone else get the Ratatouille plushes out of the claw machines right after the movie released? I won a Remy, Emile, and Linguini plush, all about 12 inches tall, but they are in storage and I'm not sure what brand made them, and I can't find any that look like them online.
Hey man I have a lost media case for you. The famous youtube poop "You can't touch Mormon Jesus" was supposedly shown in an episode of "Attack of the show". I haven't been able to find it myself. It seems like info on Attack of the show itself is pretty hard to come by.

The most lost merchandise are the ones from the 2006 cartoon network film Re-animated cuz they only appear in film and then after that they're nowhere to be found xD
It’s nice having a compilation of the physical lost media videos.

That print of Captain Underpants looks too good quality for something self publish by a college student in 1989
How were Avatar Creations making such high quality Mario & Sonic toys? There's no way a full production of those figures would've looked that good.
yeah, mario looks just like the n64 renders
I’m watching this video on my lunch break at work, and they’re about to have no idea why I’m so excited about a Chowder plush in a claw machine
