The Importance of Correct Topology in 3D

  • A good topology in modelling is important because it allows a clean subdivision of the mesh.
    This allows us to deform the surface optimally in an animation, to apply textures correctly with UV mapping and to simplify the editing of the 3D model.

    Great Video, Very well explained. One question, if modeling for game assets isn't it better to use Tri's and not Quad topology, or will the game engine just auto convert it ? Cheers :)

      Hi, I have to be honest, I don't do game assets, so I can't tell you if triangle-based topology is better in that case.
      It's certainly better for standard modelling and for animations that involve surface deformation.
