  • Changing the oil in your 50cc or 150cc scooter. This is all the steps you will need to change the oil in your scooter at home. Once you buy all the materials, they will pay for themselves in 2 oil changes. Feel free to comment with any questions!
    All of the materials can be bought at your local auto parts store. Here's what I bought from O'Reilly Auto Parts:
    -Drain Pan
    -Funnel (Longer stem for angle of fill stem)
    -17mm Socket (I didn't have to buy this, but it is available there)
    -15w 50 oil (Specific to my scooter)
    *Make sure you refer to your manual to see what kind of oil to use and how much. All scooters and motorcycles are different!

    Hey! Great video. Very helpful! One question: I replaced my oil filter and spring exactly the same way you did (filter pointing upwards). However, I saw another video that shows that the filter should go down inside the spring, pointing downwards. Does it matter?

    So what's the deal with the scooter 4t oil? Just found out about it and don't know what's different about it compared to regular synthetic oil.

  • @jasonsuny
    @jasonsuny 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    There's no need to screw the dipstick in to check oil level, the correct way is to just stick it in without screwing, and making sure the scooter is parked level. the exchange oil quantity is around 800-900cc of oil, typically.

    It looks like a GY6 engine, used in many Chinese branded bikes and they hold (give or take ) 750 ml of oil. A decent 10w/40 oil is the best for these engines.

    This is for the viewers watching the video, for all of these Chinese GY6 clone engines you do not screw the dip stick in at all to check the oil. All ya have to do is insert the dip stick to the threads and then pull it back out for the proper oil level check. Do NOT thread the dip stick back in to check the oil level!! The other recommendation would be to use a 10W30 or 10W40 motor oil if the engine has low miles on it or is still new. Do not ever use high viscosity oil, 5w50 or 10w50, on any small cc new engine even if ya live in the desert. A newer engine with tight tolerances NEEDS the lighter viscosity oil to be able to flow into the tighter tolerance bearing journals and valve guides!!😁

    • @Shagnasty-bo5bj
      @Shagnasty-bo5bj 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@gerardoruiz5634 Great question, since there is no oil bath clutch when equiped with an air cooled CVT on a scooter the quality and the viscosity of the oil used is more important. If you want to use motorcycle specific oil there is no harm to the engine but it is not needed. I do not ever use synthetic or a 50/50 blend until the engine is fully broken in. Dinasaur oil for at least the break in period first, always sticking with the owners manual or service manual recommended viscosity of the oil!😁

    As someone else has mentioned the filter looks like a thimble and must go inside the spring, the way it is fitted is incorrect as it is upside down and won't work properly and might restrict the oil flow to the engine, on many scooters there is an oil drain bolt on the opposite side,on my sym it is 17mm, I very rarely remove the filter and spring as it is much messier and due to the mesh size never needed cleaning in the 20,000 miles I put on the scooter. The oil I use is standard 10w40 semi synthetic car oil which I change every 1000 miles , no need for motorbike or scooter oil as the clutch is dry , car oil contains friction modifiers so must not be used in wet clutch motorcycles as it might make the clutch slip.

      The manual actually says to use 5w50 until the first oil change. Then, you can switch to 10w50 or 15w50. I've used both and I feel like the 15w50 makes the engine run a little smoother. It is definitely weird that it doesnt use 10w40.

      @@islamayman5927 Yeah. Many 150cc or gy6 engines use 10w40. I'm not sure why this engine was made differently. It is a 2005 Wildfire 150T

    That music is so annoying. You should only rest the dipstick on the top NOT screw it in for a true reading!

  • @wesleykruis6673

    Immediately - 1st step is WRONG....
    Starting the engine pulls the oil up into the engine giving an inaccurate reading on the dip-stick.
    .... NO DUDE!

      Actually, you are most definitely supposed to warm your engine up. If the engine oil is warm, it has no issue draining from the internals of the engine. It prevents the oil from sticking in all the crevices and oil pan since it thins out at higher temperatures. Any shop manual will explain this pretty clearly.

    That's not the correct drain plug it's on the opposite side and you have the incorrect oil

      This is all per the manual. Every scoot is different.

      @@TyposGarage That's to all your filter not to drain and some bikes have a bearing on top of that filter and it just falls off in the oil and they never even know it and their bearing helps oil pressure And I've never seen any bite use any other thing than 10w 40
