He said because this is television, he wants bang for his buck straight away, otherwise you can do it for a fraction of the price if you've got patience and time. you can also buy smaller plants which cost half the price but just take longer to mature, they bought mid-full size plants for television looks.

In my experience, if they don't say what the budget was, then it wasn't that low.
The cheapest thing is to grow from cuttings and seeds while focusing on local plants that won't require a lot of maintenance but aren't invasive. Takes a year or so, but it'll get there
