Definitely don't like the idea of cutting with the banjo 4-5 inches away from wood.

Bought this - the circular head will cut okay and the HSS version can be removed and sharpened easy enough and stays sharp a reasonable time. Biggest issue is the hex bolt/screw that holds the cutter in place becomes almost welded in place. Im guessing from the heat and force of the cutting action. Even with WD40 it became almost impossible to remove the hex bolt with the Allen key provided. I have slashed my finger as the Allen key slips out when I'm trying to remove the firmly embedded hex bolt. After just a few uses I now need to try to find a replacement hex bolt as the the head is chewed up. The square shaped cutter I have stopped trying to use as it is next to useless at cutting. The Diamond cutter I have yet to use.

I own this tool. It is EXTREMELY difficult to handle this tool. The head designs keeps you from properly positioning the tool rest. I also bought the SteadyPro to see if that would help me with control issues. It did to some extent. When I use the TurnMaster I use it only when I use the SteadyPro. Then I ONLY use it on the interior of bowls. I do not recommend that the TurnMaster be used doing spindle work. It’s flat out dangerous. If you want to use carbide cutters my first recommendation would be HUNTER Carbide Tools. Second would be Easy Wood Tools. Sorby thrust with this tool is the removable/switchable head. Rikon has one similar and I had the exact same issues with that tool. Anytime you are positioning your tool rest away from your timber while turning you are asking for trouble. PLEASE NOTE! I turn sitting in a wheelchair. At first I thought it was the position of my wheelchair/body while turning. I could not get the angle quite right. I then set up my Laguna lathe in offboard turning position so I could get my chair in any position I wanted. NOPE! I just dont like this tool at all. I have (1) Easy Wood Tool. I also have (3) Hunter tools. Those I really enjoy using. I love Sorby chisels. They are my main line of tools. Then Doug Thompson & Cindy Drodza. Hunter Carbide when I have special turning needs. I do not recommend this tool to anyone.
