  • Therapeutic session, rip it apart. Today's subject is a projector from carboot sale. Worked for a while, then gave up the ghost (lamp). So today I am taking it to bits and salvaging all interesting optics from inside. Enjoy!

The reason for not using a halogen lamp is the light output vs. the heat output - the discharge lamp has a much higher efficacy than any halogen lamp, and the color temperature is better, too.

ok, didn,t think about heat. tbh: i thought the lamp in projector gets even hotter than halogen... maybe my thoughts were wrong. color temp could be a reason too, but this could be easily adjusted in optical path further on.

Hey, I have same projector, I'm looking for the thermal reset switch - any chance you could point it out to me in the video?

Conec Visuals Conec Visuals it's accessible from the bottom through a pinhole. Can't find it on the video now, but I think 11:57 you will see a small square metal bracket held by 2 screws, right in the middle of the screen, a bit below centre. If my memory serves me right, it's under there, and there is a pin hole on the bottom. Just press it in with a pointy thing to reset - you should hear a click.
