Appreciate Toyota for pushing hybrids here. Hybrids are still the optimal form of vehicle electrification considering our country's lacking infrastructure.
do you know what version of hybrid system is being sold here in the Philippines? i saw some review that in the US it is version 5 already. In the US the ICE is 2.0 liter and 4 wheel independent suspension. Here engine is 1.8 liters and beam type for the the rear.
I hope the v variant has all the interior amenities of the gr-s, and if thats the case the v is going to be the perfect corolla cross, well at least for me, the suspension upgrade of the gr-s doesn't really makes sense to me. its a every day commuter car it should be a comfortable and compliant ride. If toyota wants to offer a "sporty" variant give it a AWD system and a bigger and bit more powerful hybrid engine like on other markets.
Downside of still using Nickel batteries now compared to lithium batteries is the future price of the replacement battery eventually. Lithium batteries will be cheaper than nickel batteries after 8 years. Not to mention the weight difference between the two.
NiMH will still be cheaper after a decade. Two factors: EVs and PHEV demand for li-ion replacements, and regulatory limits. Plus NiMH is rated for more charge/discharge cycles and will last longer than Li-ion before needing to be replaced. Which is why Toyota’s hybrids have been America’s favorite Uber cars.
I still love the power advantage of the old petrol G variant. Plus I'll wait for hybrid tech to improve further and justify its additional cost in terms of fuel savings.
Which is funny because this has been the cheapest that Toyota’s hybrids have gotten here. They’re no longer considered “additional costs”. Lahat ng variants hybrid na. And if u think about it, people complain too much about the “return of investment” pero kapag other models like Raptor na pagkamahal mahal hindi naman nagkekwentahan ng ganyang ROI versus the regular Wildtrak. Neither do people compute ROI for Fortuner LTD versus the G variant. Talagang sa hybrids lang. how ironic.
@Autoindustriya - Awesome vid as always, and it couldn't come at a better time. I'm in the market for a hybrid vehicle and I'm seriously considering this one. So which variants come with the 360 deg view camera?
The difference in features between the base model and the GRS model is ridiculous. Its not helping the consumer at all considering the price of the base model is more expensive than other brands.
@@PinoyStrums I was pointing out that the car in video is a hybrid, a more expensive variant. Of course you can buy a 7-seater for 1.4M, actually for even less than 1M. The point is, you cannot expect a good 5-seater hybrid car to be priced lower than your preferred 7-seater budget vehicle.
NICKEL METAL HYDRIDE!?!?! Those batteries are NOTORIOUS for having battery memory if not properly chargedal and discharged, expect 5 years life span for those kinds of battery. For Toyota OF ALL COMPANIES to not use LiFePO4, thats just NUTS! EXPECTING in the next 3 years, BATTERY will be the main issue of that vehicle.

That fact that it cost less than the previous model even though it wasnt and hev shows much overpriced the past model was. We can thank china cars for that. Competition is good for us consumers

Disappointed. V should have all the features as that is the top of the line. GRS are just sideline/parallel variants who wants sports. Very disappointing from Toyota. No wonder Chinese cars are on the rise.

Maganda design ng front ng G and V
Hindi na malungkot tingnan
The new grille reminds me of the Lexus RX.
The G and V variant looks better than the GRS, no?
very true!
because of the price? 😁
Disagree. But looks are subjective. Prefer the classic grille.
is there a diesel version of this?
Really nice intro Sir Vince. I like that your production quality improves over time. Thanks for this review

I liked the part about the battery the most ❤
Glad you liked it
Which is better the yaris cross [ high end] or the corolla cross [base model] ?
If fuel economy is not an issue, what’s the better car, HRV base variant or Corolla Cross base variant?
I hope the v variant has all the interior amenities of the gr-s, and if thats the case the v is going to be the perfect corolla cross, well at least for me, the suspension upgrade of the gr-s doesn't really makes sense to me. its a every day commuter car it should be a comfortable and compliant ride. Does the Yaris Cross have a filter for the battery fan?
What sorta irks me is that, the G and V variants look more like an EV when it comes to the front facia compared to the GRS version.
yes. the lower variants look way better
Depends who you ask. I prefer the more classic look of the grs. It's similar to the honda crv hev.
the old face looks better and macho ! Well that's me.. to each his own.
Toyota please upgrade your interior design and quality the only thing lacking in this one imo.
The nickel hydride battery spoils the beautiful package. As often, the country is dumping ground for excess inventory of outmoded tech.
have anyone ask how much the battery cost if you need a replacement?
Does the GR-S version uses electronic parking break? Or does it still use the footbreak?
Is electronic now
We have yaris cross here in the uk, i prefer corolla cross though. But the toyota CHR is in a different league.👍
Big upgrade. Both looks and tech esp on the base variant
anybody knows what hybrid battery toyota put in here? lithium ion or nickel?
Still the nickel. As it's Just a mid cycle refresh
Wow my dream car 😍 👌 🙏

fifth generation hybrid system na po ba ang corolla cross natin dito sa pinas
Dehins pa, yung 5th gen hybrid is yung zenix hybrid.

Hybrid is a better option compare sa pure battery car.
Is the new corolla still using the foot brakes instead of electronic parking break?
No. E brake now
the G and V variants looks way more premium and modern than the GR
I think the arrival of more affordable cars and EVs from China forced the big names to step up and offer more. Brands fight, consumers win in the end.
LiFePo4 would have been better batteries than NIMH. And if available, Sodium Ion would be even better than lithium iron phosphate.
Nice 😊

360 Camera is for GR-S but rear camera is standard on V and G

Does the GR badge really means Grab Ready??..
It's Gazoo Racing not Grab Ready lol
Is the GRS version powerful enough on uphill with cargo? For example, going to Baguio or Tagaytay.
Insult to asian market. Old engine since 2010 2zr fxe. While other markets received 2.0 hybrid.
Corolla Cross HEV abi edition
for the price point 1.4M could buy already xpander cross / br-v or Veloz with comparable tech
...hybrid.
@@jaredgalvin the GRS variant price can buy already entry level fortunner / mux / montero sport
The quality of real Toyotas like the Corolla, Camry, LC, and RAV4 are so much better than ASEAN exclusive models.

You compared a daihatsu model to a real Toyota. That's not comparable.
Does this car have Hill assist?

Thats why it is priced competitively sa chinese ICE or hybrid, coz old tech batteries
