    I have a Galil ace with a 8" barrel in 308. Great for home defense because it's a rifle and flame thrower all in one.

      Very good choice but it's the Tavor. It's always the Tavor. Nothing is better. Nothing likely will be for a long time. BTW, did your Galil have a bottle opener? I loved that feature.

      If you consider that "choice" then I guess you'd consider it a "choice" in cell phones if you were only allowed to buy a Samsung because they make 3 or 4 different versions of their flagship phone. Personally I would have preferred if he had discussed ONE AR and just threw a mention to some other prices in the AR realm and then mentioned some non AR guns, especially in very different configurations like the M1A or the Tavor 7. I'm a SCAR man myself, but admittedly, while different from the AR platform, it's similar enough that in a video with only 3 guns, it should be excluded if an AR is included

    What most people don't understand is that a 308 buffer tube isn't wider or thicker( maybe the HK is, I have no experience with HK), ALL MILITARY 308 rifles like Knights, LMT, etc. use a buffer tube that is LONGER. A REAL 308 buffer tube is 7.75" long. A REAL 308 buffer tube uses an H3 buffer and a rifle length buffer spring.
    The PROBLEM is most COMMERICAL 308 rifles use the shorter AR-15 buffer tube( 7.25"), an ar15 carbine spring, and a special "308" buffer. This is where most manufactures are cutting cost so they can use parts from an AR15.
    Make sure to use a real 308 BUFFER TUBE.

    I think for a "working man's battle rifle," we have to mention the Aero Precision M5E1. I have a couple of them and they have been outstanding, especially for the cost. They run around $1200, depending on the options, which are extensive. Aero has good customer service, and the M5 is about as standardized as AR-10s get. My first M5 was a 16 inch mid-length that has went through several thousand rounds without a single hiccup. She mostly eats M80 ball and will do 2 to 3 MOA with just a 3.5x Trijicon TA11J on top. When the 2019 ammo crunch hit, I put a case of steel cased Wolf through it, and she gobbled it up. I run her hot, put her away dirty. Wipe down the BCG every 500 rounds or so and she chugs away without missing a beat. I run around on mountains with her and she has taken a pile of game. I couldn't ask for much more from her. If you need a functional large pattern AR and don't have DD money, I highly recommend the Aero Precision M5E1.

    Three accessories have made it better...One is the JP Armageddon single stage trigger that breaks at a crisp 3 lbs,

    My favorite .308 has become my Springfield Armory Saint Victor. I have it topped off with a Primary Arms ACSS-HUD-DMR optic with 4 - 14 in OPMOD Limited Edition. I also run a Holosun HS507C on the Swampfox mount in the 45 deg position just in case "something" were to get too close. I know this seems to be a rifle that often gets overlooked, but she's got an awesome trigger, the build quality is fantastic, and she delivers downrange consistently. I feel like my Victor is priced outstandingly for the weapon that Springfield Armory is producing. Give it a whirl sometime and perhaps you'll have a new favorite in your collection.

    For the most bang for your buck, any DPMS pattern AR-10 is the way to go. It's the unofficial standard for parts commonality. I saw an Anderson 16 inch rifle for $750 just yesterday. PSA and Aero Precision make rifles that you can buy parts for right off the shelf at your local gun store. Granted you may not get all the bells and whistles but you can upgrade easily like an AR-15, no proprietary parts.

    B Tier: Springfield Socom M1A,, Sig Sauer 716i Tread, Rugar SFAR.

      I have a suppressor on my Tavor 7.
      I am convinced that the 7 was designed to run suppressed.
      I haven't noticed any gas in my face and it runs like a dream. In fact, my accuracy has dramatically increased while firing it suppressed. It is to the point where I am landing old (manufactured in West Germany) M80 ball ammo on top of each other at 200 yards pretty regularly.
      The suppressor on my 7 is a Banish 30 - which is NOT a flow through suppressor and have never had any kind of problem.
      I intended to swap the suppressor between the 7 and the SAR, but love it on the 7 so much that I haven't switched it.
      The 7 has an adjustable gas block and I just set it to the suppressed setting and it worked great immediately.
      I have noticed that if I set it to "off" I do get gas in my face with the suppressor - but, I can't help but think that the only reason to do that would be if you were firing subsonic rounds which wouldn't have nearly as much gas.
      Suffice to say, I LOVE it and think everyone should suppress the Tavor 7.

Great truck and overall great rifle but eventually moved to the AR 15 due to weight and size. Recently built a DPMS pattern AR10 mainly to see if I could run one competitively. lucasmunoz I have the older Battle Tank 716 piston Sig. All in all it's great rifle other than the weight and sadly Midwest Ind. didn't make a hand guard for it like they did the 516 that made it lighter. I with you all the way on the 716i .

    I had the V1 and it broke after 13 shots had to send it back to DD. I bought a Diamondback for about $800 bucks and it works great and costs 1/3 of the price. I am also glad to see they fixed the bolt bounce the V1 had as well. This looks like a solid gun, I wish this version would have been out when I purchased back in the day.

    Great Video! I'm really considering a couple different 308 options myself, specifically a 16" PA10 with a low power optic, either a red dot, maybe a 3x magnifier, maybe a prism, maybe some offset combo... and then I've also really wanted a PTR pistol as a brush gun/trail gun, maybe truck gun.

      @MannElite 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JohnLee-jk5ew Thats a great setup for GP or Recce. Thinking something a little slicker though, more purpose built for close range, like a 2/3x prism and canted dot, or even a micro dot on top and a canted micro prism. The idea would be to have an overwhelmingly powerful small arm for QRF or point defense, like guarding the entrance of the neighborhood, or neighborhood QRF

    For defending from a static position I love my Sig 716 Gen 1 DMR the thing single hole groops and I can watch my trace through the scope. It's a heavy beast though.

    First off I would like to thank you for an in-depth review of the three rifles. I have a number of AR-10's in 5 different calibers and all are the standard DPMS upper and lowers. They're all heavy and was looking for a AR-10 that was less in weight and still affordable. So when I saw this I went and purchased a Ruger and am seriously glad I got it. I am a Lefty and so the first thing I will do is replace the safety to an ambi. and also the trigger when I do. I opted for the 20" barrel as one of my other AR-10's has a 14.5" barrel and the flash and report will burn the ears off a brass monkey. Trying match ammo soon with quality scope and new trigger should get me well under MOA. Again thanks.

    LOVE my SFAR, took a little white tail with it this year .. shoots 1" groups @ 100, and has been totally reliable.. if your bolt in any AR platform goes 10k rounds, it has exceeded its service life, that's considered a wear item, i'd assume the barrel is a smooth bore by then too

  • @seventhmonkey458
    @seventhmonkey458 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Waiting to see how well the SFAR holds up. The thinner bolt is my main concern, and if those prove themselves over time I'm in. Secondary concern is the adjustable gas blick. For some they work well, but for others the positions are either under or over gassed. I'd likely replace with a Riflespeed for more granularity and easier indexing. I want the SFAR to be a success.
    In the mean time I'm sticking with my Adams that has the older style adjustable block that requires a Samson rail. It can be accessed, adjusted and cleaned without any tools. The newer low profile gas piston block does allow for a nicer hand guard, but it only saves about 2 oz of weight. Not worth the loss of easy maintenance of the older style. The rifle eats everything I've run through it, standard or suppressed. The piston set up also makes suppressed shooting a lot nicer than DI AR10's.

    I had to by mine in pieces because everything was out of stock. I ended up building a 7.8 lbs rifle with a Saxon 20” barrel. It cost me almost $1000 but it shoot better than I thought it would. What especially impressed me was the light recoil. My 115 lbs wife loves shooting it off hand. I am not going back to AR 15s

    POF-USA Revolution is one of my favorite 308 rifles. You can get it in a adjustable piston system or d.i.(with a straight gas tube and 9 postion adjustable gas block). 12.5", 16, 18" Barrels, and 6.5 creedmoor, or 308/7.62×51.....Lightwieght but still comes with a medium weight barrel, not some delicate pencil barrel, the receivers are the same size as a Ar15, and the Piston system is the same design as the P415 that Iraqvet8888 used in his melt down video, so it is a proven reliable system.

      burn downs prove the reliability of a gun as much as burnouts show how many miles a car will last. It has never been used and abused by soldiers, and likely never will. if you're going to default to reliability, then sr-25 and 417 just about the only two real options

    • @justanotherinternetexpert7743
      @justanotherinternetexpert7743 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @rustys.1070 🤣 🤣 🤣 whatever you say boss! There are a thousand other reasons why the POF-USA REVOLUTION has proven its reliability, but it is a youtube comment section, not a Article in a Gun magazine, or a gun blog. If you don't like POF-USA that is fine go spend $12k on a SR25 or $8k on a HK417, I am sure you will be happy with them.

    Your original videos on the DD5 convinced me to get one earlier this year and I'm so glad I did, it bangs with the gucci KAC/LMT 308s all day once you put a decent trigger in it. Runs great with a can too, not every AR-10 can say that. Also street prices are closer to $2100 so not cheap by any means but IMHO not insultingly expensive.

    The 13 in 308 sig spear is really nice especially shooting suppressed. I shot 600 rounds with the sig slx shorty suppressor and the rifle on the inside only looked like I shot 100 rounds. Comparing that to any DI gun after 100 rounds suppressed it looks like I shoot 600 rounds through it lol and is extremely filthy. The 308 round is very finaky and some 308 rifles only like certain brands, part of that seems to be that the semi ar10 seems to be the red headed step child of the semi auto world and not as much developmen has been put in as an ar15. Even with that you get more pow pow compared to 5.56.
