    Just purchased that waffle iron I too was inpatient. I seasoned my waffle maker in my outdoor Gas grill because I didn't want to house smokey. I did remove the wax first also on the grill. Scrubbed then seasoned 2 twice. But my waffles stuck . So now I think I'm armed with the knowledge I need. Back to the kitchen. If they still stick I will re-season again. Thanks you. I have an electric ceramic waffle maker but we live off grid now so I can't use that anymore.

      You have to pre-heat the iron really well too. That is the mistake I made...I neary gave up. Now I love mine! Good luck!

    Thank you for the video! I had to burn and scrape a handful of waffles before getting it just right. I wish I'd watched this video before all that!

    Part of the reason the waffle maker was so smoky coming out of the oven was because they were 'face up' while you were heating them, so the excess oil couldn't drip off and started burning.
    Also, when you use cloth or paper towel, small piece of lint get stuck in the porous surface of the cast iron and add a weird burnt taste to the first few things you cook after seasoning. Try something lint free like a bandana, bamboo towel, or I've had a friend have a good time with a chemical-free chamois.

    Should try split bamboo brushes. They make cleaning cast iron so much easier. And lard is the best seasoning I’ve found for keeping any cast iron utensil. Great video. Thanks for the info.

    Be very careful putting hot cast iron in water, even hot water.... you may cause the cast iron to fracture. After melting the wax, wipe the cast iron piece with a paper towel. Let the iron cool a bit, wash with soap and hot water.... and then start the seasoning process.

    • @rpc717
      @rpc717 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes! Even hot tap water is not that hot compared to a 400°F piece of iron, and the thermal shock can still warp or break the pan.

      Could'nt you use boiling water to do the same thing?

      @@vegapower454 no. Boiling water may still not be hot enough.

    You can't use kitchen towel it breaks up you have to use a lint free cloth.....cotton would be the best choice

    Hello. Do you know if there are electric wafflers in the market but cast iron or stainless steel? I want to avoid non-stick but I like electric. 🙋🏻‍♀️

    The shiny black patina will peel off, so I don't like to do it. It takes low and slow to get oil/fat to soak in and bond with the metal.

    Get away from chemicals with the cast iron. Great video. p.s. Those electrics are good for about a year then they quit, at least that was my experience. Wanted to see the quality of this since they are only $40.00. Good video.

    I noticed you flipped it immediately after putting the top on. Is that right? I would think the batter would leak that soon.

    I’ve seasoned it this way but just can’t get it right still; I oil both sides very well prior to pouring and preheat it. But the waffle in the center keeps sticking so when I open it the whole thing splits into two. 😢It’s discouraging. I thought maybe I should leave it longer? But then I could see the sides that did come off were dark and very cooked already. I’ll try a lower heat and longer but if someone could please help, let me know. Thanks so much!

    • @littlehouseonlaurel3767
      @littlehouseonlaurel3767  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. How many times did you season your waffle iron? It should have a hard, glossy finish when it's completely seasoned and ready to use. If your pan has been seasoned properly, I would say to try cooking it at a lower temperature for a longer time. Please let me know how it goes.

      Hello! Cast iron waffles pans do make crispy waffles. They won't be as thick as the electric belgain waffle makers though.
