I dug in Denver area with permit and 4x7 shovel was biggest and that one is within the range. Depending on the ordinances of the cities where you dig. Thanks for the video.
I should have elaborated. I use a $15 mini garden shovel. Like a regular garden shovel but mini..like for a kid. They work great, are cheap and pretty strong and don't look intimidating. When I walk with my detector I turn it upside down and you cant really notice I have a shovel in my hand until I dig.
+cache mole I know what you are talking about. I bought a couple of them for prospecting..$15 bucks or so here in Colorado as well.. Great shovels that come in handy when a full size just won't do.
I just bought my first digging tool a week ago. It's a Fiskars hori hori knife, but it's full tang, wood handle, looks a lot like the ones you have. I think it was like $25 at Home Depot. Works great!
Yeah i know they make one but they don't sell it many places. I've never seen it at Home Depot myself. They promote their 8$ "big knife" quite a bit more for some reason.
Thanks for the video. I continue to learn a ton from you my friend. Will probably add a Lifewell or Bliztech Hori Hori into my arsenal via your store. Thanks HunterGT!
the wal mart one work great in the soft dirt in Lubbock Texas but i use my Lesche most of the time. i am gonna invest in a Lil Digger. im gland u mention the hard Colorado dirt. Thanks
I use my mini shovel in parks because I can recover the target faster and make a nice clean plug with no mess. I wear a safety style jacket so people think Im a park worker usually or testing the ground for something. Plus a shovel looks less intimidating than a Hori Hori knife which resembles a bowie knife in my opinion.
A wise clothing option. I like the way you think. IDK...my Hori knife says Garden Tool right on the sheath so it would hopefully be me educating somebody on it if they had an issue with the looks. It does make for a fine self defense tool as well when I hunt close to dark....so I do understand somebody not liking either choice. I truly feel the same way about the small Sampson style shovels. I'm not so sure anybody would ever stop me and call me on it other than some old timer detectorist who thought I was ruining it for everybody. TONS of those types in this hobby. Rather not even take the chance. I do not handle unkind strangers telling me what to do...so its better for me to just not bring it lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Your right ! You should be careful what people see you digging with at a public park. Truth is though that it's easier to dig a Cleaner looking plug with a tool like your sampson shovel. I only used one digger though and that was a Predator raptor 31. This hand digger will remove the soil very quickly for those deep targets an is built like a Tank. I do have a Predator Big Red shovel to, built like a tank but it's heavy. Good video! Thanks!!
Thanks for commenting Duggr. I've always like the looks of the Raptor 31...neat hand digger. The price is what stops me cold. That and the fact is has an offset handle that I just can't come to grips with...excuse the pun. I think my next hand digger will be a Black Ada or a Wilcox trowel....really like a nice V trowel for some reason.
+Okie's Surf N Turf Metal Detecting Thanks Okie. I actually prefer the Lifewell version as it has a full tang handle....but I have used the Blizetec in dry conditions and it held up fine. So far so good.
Don't get the Garrett digger cause it's made of the same metal as the Kellyco. It's bends really easy. The Nokta Makro digger is awesome! I can't bend it in the rock hard soil I have near me.
dig dig, oakridge garden, guru, or greenistory? full tang 3 rivets hori hori? what would you pick? If I pry, I do not want a bend or break. This is part of the tools purpose Not prying something heave but roots? I do not like fiskars weed pry double edge tip.. I want a spear point. I do not like an off set blade. I want to have the blade in the middle. I do not want it to bend.
+James Hightower Almost 90% of these Hori knives are the same. My Blizetec and Lifewell look identical to the brands you listed. Other than the Lifewell is full tang 3 rivet and the Blizetec is 2 rivets and half tang...they are identical. I have abused both pretty well and neither has failed. My wife uses the 2 rivet half tang almost daily in our tough Colorado dirt and it has never failed her. Do not try to pry rocks and boulders up and you will be ok. I would still say go for the 3 rivet full tang versions...seems to be the wiser choice for "just in case" scenarios. But so far so good on both of ours. Heard good things on the Oakridge and I do not think you will be disappointed if you buy it.
yep I like the 8 dollar one for the price.... and I've yet to break mine... I'm a bang for your buck guy tho. I run my land ranger pro while my AtPro sits in a closet...lol
I saw your un boxing of the bounty hunter digging took called "The Digger". Where would someone in Canada order one? I don't see them on Amazon. Thanks.
The Fiskars Big Knife is definitely not the best metal detecting digger...I bought one because the prices here in Canada are kinda high and it's all I could afford at the time..I broke 2 of them but I still use mine..a buddy welded the heck out of it for me and it's been great ever since..totally voided the warranty but at least it's not gonna break..lol
It does however make for a great soft sod digger. I spent numerous hours just the other day with it and it performed great for 8 bucks. The Kellyco Sawtooth trowel is still the best digger I have used so far.
My thoughts exactly. Waving a Hori knife by itself at a park....I can see that being alarming. But the metal detector in hand should instantly alleviate any concerns.
+Gene F I have heard of a Fiskars that was steel in a different color scheme. The new orange and black handled ones like in the video are definitely aluminum however.
The Fiskars Big Knife is aluminum. Per their website: Multifunction polished cast-aluminum head resists rust and includes a sharpened blade edge, serrated blade edge and a forked tip. If it is the same size and color and profile...then it's aluminum. You guys can call in steel if it helps dig the targets any better. :D
Well done! Great to hear from the field!
Thank you!

My pleasure. Thanks for the kind words and watching the vids.
thanks, just ordered the Lifewell Hori Hori
Great choice!
@@thehuntergt Got my Hori Hori digger today... what a beauty
@@clickmaniac1 Awesome to hear! Great digging tool.
the wal mart one work great in the soft dirt in Lubbock Texas but i use my Lesche most of the time. i am gonna invest in a Lil Digger. im gland u mention the hard Colorado dirt. Thanks
Some terrible dirt here...that is for sure. So far it has held up well. Best of luck!
I use a duct work insulation knife for digging!
I had to Google it...but must admit it looks good!
the razor gator looks to be a plug cutter. the offset might help by keeping the handle in one place.

Trowels can be bought all day at any garden store for around $5.00
Yeah, but not a rolled steel one like a Wilcox or a Treasure Wise that is basically unbreakable. You get what you pay for in most cases.
Cool idea for a video. That blizetec knife looks great! Never heard of that brand before. Going to buy one. Thanks for the info.

What are you digging in the parks? just wondering...
Coins and jewelry. Not sure I understand your question sorry.
I saw your un boxing of the bounty hunter digging took called "The Digger". Where would someone in Canada order one? I don't see them on Amazon. Thanks.
Timothy Groenendyk I must be honest I am not sure where to find it in Canada.
whats the name of the trowel digger 2nd on the left with curved blade and orange handle???
Sawtooth Gator Digger
Thank you sir! Nice review
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
How did you get the sawtooth Sheath? I ordered one and didn't get one with mine.
Came with my order...I'd call them and ask for one if it's a recent purchase.
TheHunterGT ok what did you use to sharpen the tip?
Dremel....but have since moved to a hand file.
A few of those knives will attract handcuffs where I live
Where do you use the hand shovel if not in parks? I get your point but where else would you use one?
Relic sites....abandoned schools...anywhere in the woods... country farm type areas.
TheHunterGT Thanks for getting back, makes sense :)
My pleasure! Thanks for watching and commenting!

sorry about that my phone kept saying that there was an error sending you the message
+juan lara No worries my friend....took care of it.
+TheHunterGT lol so hows the weather
+juan lara LOL...what happened to that comment? I swear I posted something about it being warmer than usual...
+TheHunterGT idk somthings screwie
I'm always torn between "The right tool for the job", and "The tool is only limited by the hands its in". (says this tool junkie)
Im using the Fiskars. I dont believe mine is made of aluminum tho. Im pretty sure its polished steel. I paid about $13 for it.
+Gene F I have heard of a Fiskars that was steel in a different color scheme. The new orange and black handled ones like in the video are definitely aluminum however.
Mine is fairly new, same size and profile and same color scheme. It is not aluminum.
i agree mine is def not aluminum
