This fight is a complete bs. Like he can't be staggered ever and never runs out of stamina, attacking non stop. Idk if it was supposed to be a joke but this "mini" boss had no business to be that difficult just due to this annoying feature.
Alternatively, if you don't want to go searching for this Ash of War, if you have the Sacred Relic Sword (The Radagon/Elden Beast sword that you farm for runes with at Mohgwyn's palace), spamming that Ash of War will also just continuously knock him down. I was stunned to see it.

To anyone else trying this who may be worried about FP efficiency, if you can give your weapon of choice the flame art affinity then it synergizes even better with FGMS. just make sure you chug a cerulean flask before combat to refill
I can here way too early on the DLC but I really wanted the Rakshasa Great Katana and set so I was determined and I was really struggling to get him past half health cause I just wasn’t doing enough damage. Thank you so much it worked first try!
yeah this enemy needs tuning. it just attacks forever and you can never stagger it out of its sweeps. not even fun to fight. (i've fought Melania about 50 times and still not won, and not found it annoying like this stupid character). okay here you go: take a colossal weapon. i used the cat staff. oracle horn works too. as he approaches, just as he approaches his sword range, swing so you hit him as he winds up. do three attacks in straight succession. the three hits will stagger him three times. back away, let stamina replenish, and repeat. easy kill this way although feels cheap.
He has a really easy moveset to analyze. Big long slow swings. Just remember that "trading blows" is a bad idea. Wait for an opening and punish as hard as you can.

I don't have any leveled up right now, but I'm currently on an Arcane/STR character, so likely can wield something decent. I've been trying to fight this guy with the chicken leg, and I know I could beat Him. You just don't do enough damage, so there's way more chances to mess up. I either come back when I have STR much higher, so I can hit harder, or cheese it... I'm feeling like I want to cheese it, if possible, as just want his armour set, for the Chicken leg build I'm doing. The other way I seen to do it was with the boss weapon with the big holy sword, special. I'd have to respec to to use it though.

I just uploaded my victory, illustrating how it took me THREE MINUTES....and I used all of my flasks, I was one hit away from dying, and my health bar was ridiculously over the top....I tried many different weapons hoping to find a cheese method. The Rot polearm's special showed some promise, but wasn't reliable....not like this bad boy.
There's something to be said about earning a victory, and I'll always fondly remember my fight with Artorias in Dark Souls, but I'm just too old to bother anymore. :D

Wave of gold also. Equip something that uses less FP and gives you more FP and that’s all you need.
Mohgwyns spear worked fine for me in this fight
