Music is Win I use an old Dunlop I tweaked. It is the last pedal in the chain, before the amp input. Any delay I use, is in the loop. Until recently, the only pedal in front of that was a modded Dod overdrive I now have a second cleaner Timmy clone overdrive, and a phaser which I use for one song in one band. That said, the amp gives me almost all my distortion and crunch. I am super stoked with the sound I get, and I often get comments on my tone. I find a little bit of grit into the pedal makes it come alive All my pedals are old school through hole analog and running off 12V. I made a custom loom to take a router power supply as there are always plenty floating around the office and home.
man you should do a video about budget listing effect and instrument, i'm poor, i only have squier tele and zoom ms 50 multi stomp and not really had many choices in that range.
So much respect man! You're so chilled out and make me enjoy my craft even more. Great player and great guy! Maybe not 1,000,000 notes a second but you've got feel!😂
I've always had my wah after my distortion. Like the Frusciante. The ibanez wh-10 is worth checking out, though. It definitely sounds different from what happened with your setup. It's like when before the distortion, just more dramatic!
I have a tube screamer and fuzz before my wah, but use my amp's distortion with delay in the loop, and the when drive is engaged with wah, big boost in volume and emphasis. Great vid!
I actually liked the third one (delay/wah/distortion), but I like playing with "noise" as an effect, especially once you learn to control it and manipulate it. I've spent many fun hours playing with sounds like that.
Anybody else agree that echo into wah into distortion is the best? I love how it just adds extra layers underneath, while what's being played still is the loudest. Maybe I just like lofi too much but that's the clear winner to me.
I think your default position sounded the best for general playing. And other configurations are good for experimental sounds you might do with certain songs or affect you want to achieve but the first was the best.
I use the Morley mark tremonti wah. A couple great features built in, but I love the lack of a kick on switch. And it looks cool while giving me some mojo from one of my favorite players and a great dude in tremonti. 🤘🏻🎸
It's not that I hate it, it's just that I much prefer using a phaser or an auto wah for that sort of thing. cocked wah sounds are also great. And they do make for fun noise jams.
From what I understand, the Morley pedals have buffered outputs. I have used one myself and I loved it. But unfortunately for me, the buffered output messed with my Fuzzface. So I bought a modded Vox/cry baby wah. It's both pedals fused into one and all buffered outputs were removed for the cleanest sound. It allows you to roll the volume off on the guitar knob to get those really nice cleans without the buffered outputs distorting it. A guy makes them by hand and I bought it of Reverb.com.
Normally, I use it before distortion, since taking the high frequencies out of the distortion pretty much ruins what the distortion does. However, I have a Fender Blender fuzz which I like to put before the wah (with another distortion after). This way, I can control how crazy the fuzz goes and lighten the upper octave it tends to add. It sounds to me like that results in a similar sound as Eddie Hazel has on Maggot Brain, more expression possibilities.
I found that guitar > noise gate > wah > dist had a more subtle yet quackier wah sound. Then i switched it to guitar > noise gate > dist > wah, and i noticed that the heel up position like...scooped like the volume or tone or something, just like in this video, then opened up in the toe position. In your video the notes like disappeared when you did heel up (wah > dist) but then came out toe down. I too will be placing my wah first, however the other way is a whole nother usable sound too!
I have a Keeley D&M drive before my dunlop mini bass wah and a tumnus after. For one sone with the band I play I use both sides of the D&M drive into the wah with the tumnus on after and I get a crazy "synth-y" sound that that sounds awesome.
Ive got a vox 847, and i like tthat use it, but always when i have it off and turn on in the middle of the playing in just turns the sound so sharp and shril that i have to change the eq or it is really annoying, what can i do?
Well, Wah is an EQ pedal in weird way. So it makes sense to keep it in the beginning of the chain. But creativity comes usually from breaking such rules, and I like it !
I've found that I like to keep my wah between my delay (which goes straight to the tuner) and my distortion just because whenever I put my wah in front it does the same effect to my delays rather than my delays repeating my wah
Wanna know what sounds killer? I used to have a DS1 Into one of those vox wahs (back when i used a wah) into my main distortion pedal. It sounded really good.
I've tried different combos but yea the standard is the best, like you also kinda liked it after distortion but David Gilmour did the best one with reverse input plugging the guitar into the output. You should do a vid using that idea.
I've always had mine after distortion, but before delay/mod pedals. P.S. It doesn't sound right after dist in this video. I would like to hear your setup with a Crybaby instead of the Morley.
Do you use clean settings on your amp and let your pedals dictate your overdriven sound? or are using the distortion setting on the amp and using the pedals as enhancers? Question for anyone. I've been just using distortion and overdrive on my clean and the sound is alright sounds kinda thin though.
im using auto wah, where to put in pedal chain? , my pedals are overdrive, distortion, noise gate, reverb and auto wah. can you give me a good arrangement . hopefully you can help me, Thank you for any reply :)
I have this issue with wah pedals, I love the sound, but it never sounds as thick as I want it to, any tips? Srv version of voodoo child is what I want but I heard him and Jimmy both modded their wahs
TheAlienFromOuterEarth Dime Crybaby from hell is one of the most customizable wah pedals on the market, you could get close. The Kirk Hammett wah is pretty thick too
The folks at Morley are awesome and they make great pedals, so show them some love! www.morleypedals.com
Best affordable ABY splitter out there is Morley.

Cliff Burton tribute Morley power fuzz wah
I think you made the video just to show off your new shoes xD
Mine is placed in the music store
(I don't have one)

General .V. Waht?!!!!!
Bob Ross
And guess what else..?
Even more WAH.
what unit of power does Kirk Hammet measure in? Wahts.
General .V. What's Kirk hammetts favorite store?
Wahwah
I've always had it set up like: wah>everything else>amp, but this video really inspired me to go and experiment a bit.
Holy tone! Man all 3 sounds sounded amazing!! You’re playing is phenomenal.
I've always had my wah after my distortion. Like the Frusciante. The ibanez wh-10 is worth checking out, though. It definitely sounds different from what happened with your setup. It's like when before the distortion, just more dramatic!
BBnator Wah after DS-02 is the best by far for me
Hell ya. I keep it in front of my fuzz, dist, and micro amp
So WAHt about your next experiment?
...
I'll see myself out.
I have a tube screamer and fuzz before my wah, but use my amp's distortion with delay in the loop, and the when drive is engaged with wah, big boost in volume and emphasis. Great vid!
Your pinch harmonics and overall tone rival Vai's... your really good man
Tyler has no feel, all he does is play a million pinch harmonics per second
*you're
Cheers no
He is correct
Cheers he's right
Ace Dragon He is not. "You are. You're." Not your.
Definitely the 1st. It's a reason why it is the most common and "best practice"...it's cos it sounds the best
I actually liked the third one (delay/wah/distortion), but I like playing with "noise" as an effect, especially once you learn to control it and manipulate it. I've spent many fun hours playing with sounds like that.
Sometimes when I close my eyes, I can't see.
Wah after delay: Disco Eterno - Soda Stereo.
U weren't joking about the fire. This helps since I just bought my first electric. Thx bro.
Was waiting for Bad Horsie, wasn't disappointed :)
Killer Vai licks dude. Well executed!
Love this vid! Please do this with other pedals as well!
Anybody else agree that echo into wah into distortion is the best? I love how it just adds extra layers underneath, while what's being played still is the loudest. Maybe I just like lofi too much but that's the clear winner to me.
Best wah-pre/post distortion on TH-cam. Excellent presentation and examples! 👍
The best of them all used Morley Wah's on a bass, a true pioneer
RIP Cliff
Should have tried distortion - wah - distortion
I think your default position sounded the best for general playing. And other configurations are good for experimental sounds you might do with certain songs or affect you want to achieve but the first was the best.
When you place your wah after a distortion/overdrive/fuzz pedal, SET THE AMP DIRTY (at least compressing or edge of breakup)! Makes it much better.
John Frusciante/Tom Morello do this as well.
I use the Morley mark tremonti wah. A couple great features built in, but I love the lack of a kick on switch. And it looks cool while giving me some mojo from one of my favorite players and a great dude in tremonti. 🤘🏻🎸
DAMN! NOW THAT'S SOME TONE RIGHT THERE!
Habits of eddie van halen pleeease.
A millennial guitar player that doesn't absolutely hate wah pedals?... That's rare.
offinthepines ikr
offinthepines why?
hey, i'm a teen and i use wahs for almost all of my solo guitar stuff.
It's not that I hate it, it's just that I much prefer using a phaser or an auto wah for that sort of thing. cocked wah sounds are also great. And they do make for fun noise jams.
I really don't like wah pedals. I just personally think the sound is a bit worn out.
My wah is also at the end of my pedalboard, my setup is basically Boss DS-1 Distortion -> Boss OD-1 Overdrive -> Cry Baby Wah
This video was awesome. Now I'm thinking of getting a Morley wah pedal.
I can't help but feel that delay into distortion into wah would sound cool.

the Morley wha sounds really good!
Last time I was so early was when I thought you would do a shred wars with Jared Dines...
plug the wah in backwards in control it with your tone knobs, bit of feedback on the delay, good fun
The Wah after the distortion had a cool effect, but its definitely more specifically sounding and might sound good in rare instants.
I use the first arrangement, but it would be cool to try different positions and different pedals!
Thanks Tyler
i had my wah at the wrong place and i thought my wah was broken or something
thank you
I found that guitar > noise gate > wah > dist had a more subtle yet quackier wah sound.
Second has that newsted/Trujillo bass vibe. I prefer the first
I have a Keeley D&M drive before my dunlop mini bass wah and a tumnus after. For one sone with the band I play I use both sides of the D&M drive into the wah with the tumnus on after and I get a crazy "synth-y" sound that that sounds awesome.
The third, my god, sounds like the aliens have landed. Run while you can.
Ive got a vox 847, and i like tthat use it, but always when i have it off and turn on in the middle of the playing in just turns the sound so sharp and shril that i have to change the eq or it is really annoying, what can i do?
Rito Games roll your tone knob down when you use it
Buy a crybaby lol
I like them both, after sounds like you could make a cool intro
Well, Wah is an EQ pedal in weird way. So it makes sense to keep it in the beginning of the chain. But creativity comes usually from breaking such rules, and I like it !
I've found that I like to keep my wah between my delay (which goes straight to the tuner) and my distortion just because whenever I put my wah in front it does the same effect to my delays rather than my delays repeating my wah
When you have a multi effect? You should put the wah in front right?
As a bass player, I prefer to put my wah after my OD/distortion/fuzz because it is simply inaudible if placed first.
Alright, hold on a second. Tyler are you wearing Glenn Fricker's lead guitarist shirt??? I am seeing that, right?
Wah after a loop pedal is good fun
Liked the first one second one sounded like it had a reverse going on.
I have one of those, it's my favorite wah!
Comp>Wah>Boost>Muff.
Try it. It's nuts.
Can you do Whammy pedal next?
Bad Horsie......makes sense. Nice work
My setup is Fuss>Wah/Volume>Overdrive & Distortion>Modulation>Delay>Reverb>Looper>Amp (or interface)
I like Dunlop original crybaby, very easy to mod and cheap enough for me not to worry about screwing up
You didn't think I would play bad horsie now did ya?
I'm pretty sure I did 😁
He said 'wouldn't'
Hmm.. was wondering what was wondering with it....😉
Dayum, that second one was really unexpected...
Thanks for messing me all up .
Now gotta figure out where Wah goes in my pedal chain
6:12 insert Motley Crue -Girls Girls Girls main riff after the divebomb.
Wah after distortion is good for synth like effects.
Setups 2 and 3 sound like good intro tones. Look up Cowboy Junkies's intro to Dragging Hooks for that type of vibe.
Remember, children: "wah before fuzz for maximum scuzz".
Well, try to insert wah between 2 distorsions. It will sound insane (=
The "darth vader" sounded pretty amazing
Wanna know what sounds killer? I used to have a DS1 Into one of those vox wahs (back when i used a wah) into my main distortion pedal. It sounded really good.
Them kicks fresh boi 👌👌👌👌👌
kirk hammet: not enough wah
Are you going through the front of your head or are you using your send and return?
I've tried different combos but yea the standard is the best, like you also kinda liked it after distortion but David Gilmour did the best one with reverse input plugging the guitar into the output. You should do a vid using that idea.
You should try overdrive into wah into distortion/distorted amp
It sounds wicked
Fancy internet man has fancy shoes
Thanks have bad horsie too. But I plan to use a wireless guitar system. So a wire less received into the WAH. Will it have problems ?
Thx brother!
john frusciante puts the distrotion in font of the wah in the solo of dani california
finally i can play metallica songs properly
I'd like to have a Wah Pedal... Or any pedal for that matter.
Didnt care about the wah pedal. That kicks got my attention.
I don't use a drive pedal, so don't have this issue, but it was still interesting
Nice! My question is: Where did you get the amp? I want something like that.
Trains N' Stuff it's a PRS amp, anyone who sells PRS will have them, or can get them.
Great video thx. What rack are your pedals mounted on?
Hey Tyler, can you play Carnatic guitar?
I've always had mine after distortion, but before delay/mod pedals.
P.S. It doesn't sound right after dist in this video. I would like to hear your setup with a Crybaby instead of the Morley.
TYLER WE NEED YOU TO DO A SHRED WARS WITH SHRED WARS WITH JARED DINES ASAP LIKE, SCREW ANY PLANS YOU BOTH HAVE AND DO A SHRED WARS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for saving my time and effort lol
Do you use clean settings on your amp and let your pedals dictate your overdriven sound? or are using the distortion setting on the amp and using the pedals as enhancers? Question for anyone. I've been just using distortion and overdrive on my clean and the sound is alright sounds kinda thin though.
You put the wah pedal next to Kirk Hammet.
im using auto wah, where to put in pedal chain? , my pedals are overdrive, distortion, noise gate, reverb and auto wah. can you give me a good arrangement . hopefully you can help me, Thank you for any reply :)
Why do I keep clicking on MerkMusic's videos thinking they're yours?
Is that white pedal next to the blue pedal next to the boss metal zone at 0:50 a Joyo D-Seed??
So if you put both the delay and distortion before the wah, do you get like a mix of both effects? That's awesome for noise-drone music!
Have you tried extended range guitars?
well i place my wha between two distortions to be sure.
Much Effect, very distortion, Wah!!!
The Kirk Hammett wah is pretty thick too
first set up is best.
