The 2nd day I ovvn my crybaby vvah I vvas sooo sick of the squeek I opened it & fixed it ( I'd normally NEVER do it myself & take it to a shop but this experience made me vvilling to fix my ovvn stuff aftervvards ) & vvas happy vv/it aftervvard. Also TY for pointing out that D. Gilmour uses a vvah on the solo in comfortaly numb, even though I've heard it thousands of times I never picked up on it being there. TY again & keep up the great vvork .
No! Do not lube the rod in you Wah pedal! If you do that it will always fall down to front position when you take your foot off and you can not adjust it to desired position/sound and then just leave it there. The solution is very simple and Jimi perfected this skill. You turn the knob that say volume on your big marshal amp all the way up, and then some. You will not hear it sqeaking any more.
I just love how the sounds the wah pedal makes can't be described with normal words so we have to resort to various onomatopoeia such as "waka waka" or "bow chicka bowow"
Dude, one thing that made Hendrix's wah playing awesome is that he had that perfect timing of when to open and close the pedal... It's harder than people think. It's not just tapping the beat. He made the notes "talk".
JH pedals can only work in the JH SET of pedals. They don't give you a choice. That sound was NO 1960's sound. The custom signal from the JH wah requires the JH fuzz pedal to convert. No amp can accept the custom signal from the JH wah pedal.
Clapton playing Cream's "White Room" was pretty good back then, too! That lengthy hold to feedback suspension in the studio version remains a wonderful moment..!
I think other used wah pedal too at that time..only Hendrix use it more skillfully at his time..saying it if people never heard it at that time was an understatement

There's NO 1960's sound from this video. Something's wrong. That wah pedal hasn't made its TRUE sound yet. None of those sounds were the same as the original Thomas wah sound. YOU must be deaf cause you can't tell your head from your arse.

John Frusciante has the best wah sound IMO, especially the way he uses it during improvised solos live (also there is a really cool guitar lesson session with him, where he showcases it in an epic solo). Actually I think less is often more with the wah. For example I really like Jimi turning it on for a solo and then leave it, just to kick the sound. Electric funeral is a great example for a dark sound. Voodoo childe is the climax of wah history.
WD-40 is not a lubricant, well not a very good one anyway. It'll do in a pinch but as it evaporates the squeak will likely come back. Better off to use a dedicated spray lubricant, my preference being a dry teflon spray like used on bicycle chains.
....Portishead aired on MTV and wasnt a secret if you was in middle / high school in the 90s. They wasnt nirvana level, but I would say as many (or more) kids at school knew of them as much as Primus or Crash Test Dummies
I guess you can think of this as a manually controlled modulation type pedal like a flanger or phaser. It does the same thing to the frequency spectrum, except now the sweep is controlled by your foot instead of an LFO.
My fave technique is to solo with a half-cocked wah in a fixed position. Funky frequency sweeps freak too many people out at my church. Lol. Another great vid. Thanks Paul!

I can make all of JH's original sounds exactly. I own all of the JH equipment. There was NO voodoo sounds throughout this entire video. Stop being disrespectful to JH. Jimi PAID a lot of money to make his Wah sounds. You don't get that sound from 1 pedal.

There are now pedals dedicated to reproducing these static sounds, but at the time 'parking' a wah was the only way to do it.

WD 40 isn't a a good lubricant - it's a solvent, and so it quickly evaporates. Try "Corrosion X" when it starts squeaking again. It's a high-pressure rated lubricant that is designed for use on electrical equipment. It's also has excellent ant-corrosive properties: www.westmarine.com/buy/corrosionx--corrosionx-corrosion-and-rust-inhibitor-6-oz--601406 I don't work for them or anything - I'm just a sailor who has to keep things lubricated and corrosion free in a salt water environment.
Duct tape a quarter or nickel under the heel bumper....it keeps the pedal in the "working range" and keeps the sound from dropping out at heel down. Try it....don't like it....take it off.......(you'll like it).
I know nothing about guitars, and I keep hearing people talking about Kirk Hammett's use of the Wah Pedal. So I came here to learn what on earth it was. And I found a hidden gem of a youtube channel!
I actually didn't mind that squeaky wah pedal in the beginning. I'm no expert on pedals or guitar but it was pretty ok. But if the style of music changes of course that squeaky pedal would need to be fixed

I was looking for my white grease spray... WD-40 does it all, but is never the best. That's why it was still unused ;)
Batch # WD-40 was a gum removal cleaning agent. Till they figured it’s also a decent lube. But not lithium.

i have 2 optic wahs, theyre the best. no need to push a button... touch and its on, you can make dry and wah sounds on and off while soloing fastly...

I actually didn't mind that squeaky wah pedal in the beginning. I'm no expert on pedals or guitar but it was pretty ok. But if the style of music changes of course that squeaky pedal would need to be fixed

I like to play a cool ascending power chord riff while slowly pressing down the do it descending while pulling the pedal back up
The squeaking actually kinda added a bit of a groove to your planning hehe
