  • Samsung’s latest Dolby Atmos soundbar, the Q90R, is an incremental upgrade from the company’s popular HW-N950. But for those with the latest TV tech, this pricey Atmos beast is well worth considering.

      @@KOEK111 Audiophiles are insufferable at times. Typically, a good 2.1 with bookshelf speakers and a decent sub will outperform any sound bar (and can SOMETIMES be cheaper than these sound bars). Nothing wrong with a sound bar for a small room, but most sound bars don't give really good clarity like a 2.1/3.1 system can. Still, the HW-N950 and HW-Q90r are really good quality and produce decent atmos effects, even more so if you can get them used since they run about $400 on Ebay right now which isn't too bad

    Nakamichi Shockwafe 9.2.4 is hands down the best sound bar out right now. Duel 10 inch subwoofers four surround speakers 1000 total watts all for $1299 and decodes Atmos and DTS-X . I had the previous version and sold it. It was a solid bar and Atmos was excellent but I found DD5.1 weak. Surround info was barely present. Compared to my other system with a traditional 5.1 speaker and receiver it didn’t compare.
    I have sold the Samsung bar and gone with a Marantz 1609 and kef speaker set. Also installed ceilings for a 5.1.2. Just a much happier experience that exceeds my other movie set up now.
    As a bar it is solid with Atmos material but the material out there on Netflix isn’t enough so I went with a traditional set up.

    not sure if you have contacts at Samsung, but they really need to add the ability to specify inputs rather than just cycle inputs via the Remote... or Aftermarket IR codes for it for people who use high end universal remotes such as the Logitech harmony remote
    having to cycle through hdmi inputs and worry about things getting "out of sync" is not something i should be dealing with in 2019 Samsung!!!

  • @markgreenough8602
    @markgreenough8602 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The audio sync issue can be a huge problem with certain app’s. It particularly bad with Foxtel (a pay TV streaming derive in Australia). It can’t be adjusted out with audio sync adjustments either as these only go up in positive ms increments, which only makes it worse. Hopefully the eARC update fixes this issue. The other elephant in the room that all reviewers seem to ignore or are just extremely lucky is the wireless sub/rear speakers disconnection after sleep. If you don’t know what I’m talking about search for actual user reviews or in avforum discussion. It was widespread with the initial firmware releases and has been addressed with the latest 1008 firmware. However, potential buyers need to be aware that the first thing they need to do is update the firmware and make sure it goes through the full cycle as the final reboots are what update the sub and rears.

    Much like the upfiring module speakers, soundbars with Atmos/DTS:X on it also do no justice to them two formats. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are best to be experienced with either in-ceiling speakers or with front/rear height speakers, not through soundbars nor the upfiring enabled speakers.

      eARC is backward compatible, but if your TV doesn't have it that means you'll not be able to reap benefits like lossless sound, higher bit-rate transfer, and mandatory latency adjustment.

      That really depends on your TV setup and whether you want to mount rear surrounds. If you'd rather have a tighter setup without rear surrounds and don't think you'll be bothered by or, because of your setup, encounter any latency from TV audio, the Ambeo is a fantastic choice. If you need/want both eARC and rear surrounds the Q90R is better. Otherwise, if you just want the rear surrounds and don't need/want eARC in the foreseeable future, the HW-N950 (the Q90R's predecessor) will probably be a steal of a deal for a fair bit.

I performed multiple firmware updates and used both the update steps on the mobile app as well as USB method. I had high hopes for this sound bar but completely unreliable. Samsung support wanted me to send the brand new unit for repair. Nope. It went back to Best Buy. Samsung should have sent me an exchange and they could have had the faulty units to play with.
