It was the Tribute to Star Wars he talks about at the end of the clip that I saw I was 7 what I really remember is them dancing to the Cantina song absolutely awesome.
So many of these moves were used by Shabbadoo (Ozone) in Breakin', six years later, and Boogaloo Shrimp (Turbo) when they were locking together in the film. There's a few styles there, too, that have all flourished in hip hop culture. I was a b-boy once upon a time (yeah, still am, even at 57), and it's wonderful to see the birth of the movement. Many of the moves themselves are decades older, but totality of the form that ultimately spread around the world started in the mid 70s. This video is a gem. Thank you.
Such important history for American dance, Folk dance, African American dance traditions, thank you so much for unearthing one of the earliest clips of this dance we know as Popping, Boogaloo, Robot or Strutting, hope there's more! Also so grateful for innovative high school TV production programs!
Wow! Thx for the props. We got lucky and found this one. All of the good shows were erased. We had to erase the previous week's show and re-use the reel to reel video tape because we couldn't afford to keep the past shows. The show was completely produced, directed and paid for by high schoolers... :-(
@@joelwyrick9793Hey Joe... me Larry livers and Jamie Hamilton performed on your show " The Joe wyrick's Disco "77-78,somewhere around that time. You also took us to go see the movie Star Wars, when it first came out in the drive-in. We also used to practice at your mom's house by the golf course up by Mount Pleasant. We used to dance at the nightclub in Sunnyvale called Orphan Annie's as well. It's been a very long time, and I hope everything is good with you~ peace and blessings,Kevin from Storyroad apt😉
*The Original Challenge * Really enjoyed seeing Ervin Williams David Williams and Tonya Hampton. Wow I’m relain. San Jose California in the 1970s Yes that is correct a part of American History. I Our history. Black American History. I’m honored to also say the Black Knights were great in there own respect (The challenge) 🙏🏽
This is where Fred "Re-Run" Berry got his moves from. There's a guy named "Camelot" that came from this group who taught Fred how to "lock." Camelot went on to become a "Locker"
And this proves the point even more with the start of hip hop being blk created..I'm from NYC and the story is the same while blks on the west was popping the dancers back east were waving and breaking or b boying ...no other groups of people back then were boogieing like blks period I don't see where the argument is coming from yesterday the Hispanics helped bring it out more around the world 🌎 but you are not the creators of hip hop ....that's all we are saying
I'd love to know where these talented stars 🌟 ❤ are now. What a fantastic video! THANK YOU!!!!
