Thank you so much for giving us all these helpful tips when painting. You’re an inspiration to me and you always manage to motivate me to paint or draw every single day ❤❤
The premixed is cooler. Yours is warmer. Mixing color is interesting and a lot of fun but if I need a lot of one color, it can quickly become a pain. At that point, pre-mixed for the win.
Thank you !!!! Yours is way more vibrant 😳😳😳 💪💪👍I really enjoy your technique and the way you create different beautiul shades more blue, more purple, more black !!!! Thank you, bises
The original Payne's gray is a wonderful chromatic black, I would say. I have been experimenting with this mix recently, and next to the ultramarine/brown, and the red/green blacks, I'll be using this a bit more often.
🤩 Wow… I was just thinking about this. I needed a payne’s grey and knew I should be able to mix some myself but couldn’t figure out how to mix it 🤔Thanks a bunch 💝
Woah, that's really cool!! Thanks for the tip! Also, one question, do you have any good recommendations for travelling brushes? I'd really appreciate it 💖
hi Leslie! i’d like to build a three colour palette to learn more about mixing and bring more harmony to my paintings - would you recommend these three? i like the cool tones 🙂
This video shows my favourite way to mix Payne’s Grey:

So a earthy, ochre kind of yellow, a cool red and a true blue? Sounds cool.
This is the kind of watercolour tutorial I need. Thank you for your content.
Amazing!!! I love Payne's gray so much. It's been so valuable for value studies
Thank you !!!!

My pleasure!! As you probably already know, I love colour mixing. 😅❤

I like mixing my own because many of the manufactured ones aren’t as lightfast! 😊
I thought Payne’s grey is black with blue added, this is more like indigo which is a great color in itself. They seem to all vary by manufacturer
Yes, all manufacturers seem to have their own interpretation of it, which is interesting, especially when compared to the original.
Thanks Leslie! I started painting with watercolor about a month ago and color mixing is really something i need to work on so thanks for this! ❤
My pleasure! Good luck on your watercolour journey! 😊
Ooo, I'm going to experiment with this!
Thankyou ver much this help me a lot
Paynes grey is sooooo interesting 🤔 👀 😊😊😊😊
I like how when I mix my own I can easily alter it. 😊
❤
I always wonder how you have such a deep knowledge of pigments and their history
She is an art professor 👩🎨
I love research. 😊❤
Interestingly enough, Prussian blue has also quite a questionable lightfastness, given its propensity to fade in light and come back in shade.
So true. I prefer phthalo over Prussian. 😊
Woah, that's really cool!! Thanks for the tip! Also, one question, do you have any good recommendations for travelling brushes? I'd really appreciate it 💖
For travel I like the Pentel Aquash brushes.
I need clothing in this color! 😂
Just a bit curious why these grey shades feels bluish and a bit unsaturated when you use it in cold press paper
It depends on how much water to pigment is used. The first few passes had more water to show its versatility. 😊
I have always loved Payne’s gray and not because it has my last name haha
😅😂

If I could only use three colours I’d probably choose French ultramarine for my blue. 😊
Have you tried the new Permanent Alizarin Crimson from W&N (PR179) yet? If you have, how you think about the new version?
I’ll have to check my tunes to see which ones I have?
Fugitive color?? What does that mean?
So does brand matter in pigmentation of color?
Yes. It’s always helpful to check the pigments used and the lightfastness. Also, professional paints are more pigmented in general than student ones.
My dad’s name is William Payne 😂😂
That’s hilarious. Maybe you’re related to the artist? 🤔😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
