    That was great! Thanks Kurt and Rex! History of firearms is always very interesting. I actually knew a guy, when I was a child, that had a handful of those little 2.5mm calibre cartridges. He even had a couple of the revolvers.....about as small as my little finger! They had the trigger guard cut out to allow the user to place his/her finger on the trigger. Very cool stuff!

    Good collection good knowledge.
    Only thing is displaying them at club meetings I think trays with convoluted grooves would be good because I'm going to do this myself too.

    Any cartridge name that has "nitro" in it must be cool. Survival gun would have to be a .30-06, or if shotguns are included, a 12 gauge including interchangeable barrels, one with rifling to shoot the big game saboted rounds.

    Firstly great video!! Please do more. Secondarily though WTF is he thinkin when he said he'd use a 375 in "Today's" world, not the pre historic days lol!!?? I mean if for modern day survival there is very few places generally speaking that have lions, tigers, and cape buffalo where one would need such a behemoth of a round. I mean yea most places have bears or a type of cougar/mountain lion but for food getting much more likely you'll encounter rabbits, DEER, squirrels, maybe elk, pronghorn, mule deer are much more likely to be encountered. The weight of all that ammo he'd carry would be a joke. I'd choose a simple COMMON round like 5.56, 308, or 30-30

    • @TiborasaurusRex
      @TiborasaurusRex  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jared Bush I would actually make due with a Ruger 10/22 and all my pockets full of ammo, however - if I had a big white mustache like Kurt, I might pick the .375 H&H Mag... just 'cause it must be in the blood.

    I would have to go with the 7.62x39mm in a AK-103. Simply because of the reliability and availability of the rifle and ammunition.

    • @donze52
      @donze52 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      that seems crazy-- ammo is worthless and harmless without the gun-- many here though in US pull the bullet and take out primer shelling non firing cartridges that still have the look of real shells--

    humm if i was droped off in earth what round would i take 7.62x39 cuz your more likely to have to kill a 2 legged creature than a 4 legged and the ak is reliable and has a 30 round mag

    • @jdmcommute
      @jdmcommute 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dks13827 No, not proffessional. But I was told from a reloading friend of mine that the brass is rare but may be able to create by re sizing and necking down another cartridge.

    • @Len_M.
      @Len_M. 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the cartridge that inspired the .22-250 (I have a lightly used stainless Rem 700 on hold for me till the end of the month. Nothing like 4250+ fps).

    • @dks13827
      @dks13827 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your Grandpa could buy reloading dies and brass, if available, then have a reloading friend load them for a very nominal fee. Better than zero ammo !!!!

      my wife's uncle owned a 250-3000--- 25 caliber that shot at 3,000 feet per second is where the name came from- he was deadly with it on deer on up to black bear-- wish I had grabbed one of those shells back 40 years ago--

    Russian paper pinfire casings were extremely weird it was wrapped up like a paper cartridge from the Civil War the hollow cavity in the back of the minie ball had a priming compound the pain would go clean through the casing the paper casing hit the priming compound in the base of the bullet and Fire the Russians later replaced this design with the Mauser bolt-action which is pretty much the same but use metallic taste cartridges instead of paper and the firing pin did not protrude as far
