    It's amazing when the set crew moved that stone wall it didn't get picked up on the microphones.
    In "Where no man has gone before", when the red alert is sounded, and Kirk, Spock, and Mr Mitchell rush into the turbolift, you can hear the set crew moving the false wall used to create the effect of an unbroken shot of the turbolift moving up from a lower deck corridor to the bridge.

    The story goes that despite having "space babes" in skimpy costumes by 1966-67, this pilot was rejected by NBC, in part, because Susan Oliver's green-skinned Orion slave girl dance was too overtly sexual for 1964 audiences.

      How was this worse than the belly dance from Wolf in the Fold?

    • @Rickwmc
      @Rickwmc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Agreed. Producer Gene Roddenberry wanted as much sexuality as he could get away with. Kirk got to lip-lock with Barbara Luna and France Nuyen. And what about Yvonne Craig and the slave girl in Bread and Circuses?

      I recall also reading that Susan Oliver was particularly amused by how markedly different all the men on the set behaved when she was in costume compared to when she was just rehearsing. Suddenly all these people who only a day earlier had been chit chatting and gabbing it up with her started acting like they either could not take their eyes off her, or like they were afraid to even glance at her.

    • @festo8756
      @festo8756 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The story isn't true. The real reason is NBC found the pilot too boring. They didn't have a problem with the slave girl. Think about it NBC didn't like the dancing girl all they had to do was either take out the scene or reshoot it. They wouldnt spend time and money on writing a new pilot and filming it instead of changing one scene.

    The quote "Suppose you had all of space to choose from, and this was only one small sample. Wouldn't you say it was worth a man's soul?" is a rhetorical question that suggests the incredible value and vastness of space exploration.
    In the context of the play "Doctor Faustus," the character Dr. Faust is a scholar who is dissatisfied with his life and seeks knowledge beyond what is possible through traditional means. He makes a pact with the devil, exchanging his soul for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures.
    Therefore, in the context of the play, the quote implies that the knowledge and experience gained from exploring all of space would be worth the cost of a person's soul, as Dr. Faust believes that the pursuit of knowledge and power is more important than anything else, including his own soul. However, the quote is also a commentary on the dangers of obsession and the potential costs of pursuing knowledge and power at any cost.

      Not necessarily. I agree Susan was excellent but Yvonne Craig (Batgirl) and Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeanie) were seriously considered for the part. So basically in this reality, captain pike owned a strip club. And the actual interpretation of Captain Pike he felt uncomfortable being there? Or was it something in him that he was trying to defuse? Did he like what he saw and didn't feel comfortable stealing that way, or did he dislike it so much that he didn't know how to handle himself?

    • @PhantomObserver
      @PhantomObserver 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Earlier in the episode, Pike was talking with the ship’s doctor about his dissatisfaction with being a starship captain, and mentioned becoming an Orion trader as a possible career choice. This scene illustrates Pike’s confrontation with that idea, and his realizing that he wasn’t comfortable with it, especially with Vina trying to appeal to his more sensual nature.

    • @phillytvdirector
      @phillytvdirector 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhantomObserver yeah that's what I got. So in essence he didn't really know what it was like to be an Orion trader and how seedy things could get. It's like he fantasized about it but really couldn't handle it. But did he have sex with Vina in the cave outside the entertainment area? She followed him.

    • @rcnelson
      @rcnelson 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      None of the above, I think. He remembered his real life and knew this was some kind of illusion. He knew this sensual paradise was fake and wondered how and why he got there.
