I was around 7 and used to watch trek with my dad when it came on in the 60s. I thought she was the prettiest lady I ever saw!

Me too; I'll be sixty in February. My dad joked about the female crew members uniforms - the short skirts. Yes; Marta and Rachael Welch in One Million Years BC. There was also a cartoon Herculodes that had a cave woman in it; I think the character was based on Rachael.

@@wiseonwords I believe it was because of the scene where Marta is killed by Garth with an explosive. It was pretty brutal back in the day. Yet the TV series, "Combat" showed much more brutality IMO. Not sure how that show fared in by the BBC. Please correct me if I'm wrong for the reason why the BBC banned the episode.

According to her autobiography, Yvonne made up the dance pretty much on the spot. He told her to do a demented dance. And yes she is totally green. She stood naked while a man spray-painted her body. This was against the union rules, and he could have been fired. But there was no one else who could have done the job. She did not get along with Shatner, and Nimoy teased her about her shaved eyebrows. "If you can grow a beard, you can grow your eyebrows back." The paint left globs in her arm pits.

Nobody got along with Shatner during the original series. Shatner was too much of an egomaniac. Nimoy and Shatner became close friends in later years when Nimoy struggled with alcoholism and Shatner helped get and stay dry. Shatner himself is a reformed alcoholic.

"Liquid bandage" spray was used to keep Yvonne from sweating off the green body makeup. When they shot the scene where Marta is taken outside into the planet's poisonous atmosphere and she pleads for her life with outstretched arms, the stuff formed cobwebby globs and it looked like green moss hanging from her armpits. Fortunately, it didn't show up on film.

The music and dance were very similar to the first "pilot" of Star Trek where Susan Oliver performed a similar dance with almost identical music. However, I personally believe this actress gave a much better performance while dancing. She had prior dance experience that Susan Oliver didn't have. Just look at the awesome muscle tone of her legs and the "V" format of her back. She definitely had ballet dance experience during well beyond the regular experience of dancers from the later 1960s.
But the dream sequence by Captain Pike with the green Orion dancer (Susan Oliver) set the stage for all green Orions in Star Trek lore after the original pilot. IMHO.

Marta's poetry is an actual potem by A.E.Housman:
    In midnights of November,
When Dead Man’s Fair is nigh,
    And danger in the valley,
    And anger in the sky,
    Around the huddling homesteads
    The leafless timber roars,
And the dead call the dying
    And finger at the doors.
    Oh, yonder faltering fingers
    Are hands I used to hold;
    Their false companion drowses
And leaves them in the cold.
Oh, to the bed of ocean,
    To Africk and to Ind,
    I will arise and follow
    Along the rainy wind.
The night goes out and under
    With all its train forlorn;
    Hues in the east assemble
And cocks crow up the morn.
    The living are the living
And dead the dead will stay,
And I will sort with comrades
That face the beam of day.

Of course, any true Fan who's seen the original version on the show knows this is an edited version of the dance.

I remember her very tight Batgirl costume and her beautiful figure is on display here to full effect

Garth: "Marta my dear, won't you dance for our guests?"
    Marta hesitates
Garth: "That was not a request." 😅
    After her dance
Garth: "She's yours if you wish, Captain."
Can't remember what Kirk said, but if it was anything other than "I'll take her".. 😅.

I didn’t know Vulcan children were taught to dance provocatively. Strange observation, Mr. Spock.
