    Have really enjoyed watching your video, very detailed and informing! I have made an outdoor swing out of cypress, and I am going to only seal it with a good sealer. I am going to apply an 8x10 picture to a flat panel in the middle of the back. What would be your suggestion to accomplish this? Also, what paper do you use for the transfer? Thank you in advance for any help. Lamar

    • @imagetransferswithrix

      Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The paper is my RixCanDoIt Quick Transfer paper. It is specially coated for an easy release and peel. I would recommend you do the transfer BEFORE you seal it. Then you can seal in the image as well when you seal the whole swing. The area to be transferred to should be 'smooth', flat and clean. Any pits, creases will not transfer to as those areas have no contact to the paper and image. Also, if your image has white in it those are non-printable areas of your image. If you don't want the cyprus pattern or color to fill in those white areas, you will want to use the white spray paint trick found in a couple of my videos. Have fun!

    Hello! Thank you for the tutorial and tips! Your project turned out awesome. Can a transfer be done on just stained wood no paint? No sealer is needed to protect the transfer? Thank you in advance.

    • @imagetransferswithrix
      @imagetransferswithrix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Landerose. The transfer can be done on any surface that Gel Medium can adhere to. So if in question, test. Apply gel medium onto your surface, let dry, then see if it holds.
      A sealer is not required to do the transfer, but I would recommend it if you want to PROTECT it. That would go for almost anything. If nothing is ever going to touch the image after transfer, then you don't necessarily need to seal it. But if you are going to be touching it, putting things on it, etc., I'd seal it.

      @@imagetransferswithrix if I have a laser printer and the gel medium, and I am transferring to an acrylic painted wood surface, do I still need to use the transfer paper? Also- do I need to seal the paint before applying the transfer? If so, what do I seal it with? I’m trying my best to use the supplies I have…these are gifts I am making for my daughter, and I should have stopped about 5 gifts ago lol. I have seen others transfer with normal paper, but I’m a little confused. Help 🙏 Thank you for your tutorials. I’m a much better in person learner than virtual 😝.

      @@joyelleforjesus I think you missed the point about using my transfer paper. Here's what you do. Use regular paper as you have seen in other videos. See if you like the removal process. See if you like the result after rubbing and wetting it over and over again. If you are okay with that, then you should stick with it. My paper was developed so that I would not have to be rubbing wet soggy paper off, making a mess, taking lots of time, and often rubbing off some of the image itself. It's a matter of preference. Most certainly try out the regular paper route. That way you will have experience. The paint does not need to be sealed before transfer and would likely make the transfer more difficult to hold. Seal afterwards is a good idea though.

      @imagetransferswithrix  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please email when you need assistance. I don't understand what you mean by "first layer" and "2nd coat fibres". Let me know exactly what you are referring to BY EMAIL as I may not catch it in the comments. Explain "first layer", and "fibres". Neither of those terms mean anything to me. You glue the image that is printed on the transfer paper onto your surface. You dry it (usually in 5 minutes with heat but you can leave overnight if you are not in a hurry). Then you moisten and peel off. The only thing that peels off is that which is not glued down. If you glue completely, only the 'backing' paper comes off leaving the image glued to the surface. There are no fibres. Are you using my paper or just regular printer paper and doing the wet and rub to death (messy) method that leaves all kinds of paper behind? The Quick Transfer Paper does not leave any paper fibers. If you peel off the paper and it tears and so some have not been peeled off, just moisten and peel off what's left. EMAIL ME with exact details so I can get my mind wrapped around what you are referring to. Thanks.

    Can this quick transfer paper be used to transfer onto a canvas??

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You do need to make your surface as flat and smooth as possible. With canvas, that may require some prep like applying a layer of mod podge or glue or other such material and let dry to 'level' out the roughness of canvas. But I've done several canvas transfers with much success.

    • @imagetransferswithrix

      Depends on whether you are just going to hang it up for display indoors or use it more harshly or outdoors. Then you'd want to seal it.

    Will this method also work on metal surfaces

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Anything that an adhesive will adhere to will allow the transfer to do the same.

    • @imagetransferswithrix
      @imagetransferswithrix  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I would use something like 3M 77 or 90 adhesive spray to 'glue' the transfer paper down onto metal. Then once it has completely dried, usually within 15-30 minutes, just moisten and peel! The 3M adhesive is listed to adhere to almost anything.

      @@imagetransferswithrix you’re so informative, and I could really use extra help. Too many options for my add brain. 😂 I have acrylic painted wood slices- not sealed. • @imagetransferswithrix
      @imagetransferswithrix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joyelleforjesus You have several options depending on what you want the end product to be. If you want to put decals on it, then slide paper. But I personally don't like that look. So test it out and see if it is something you are okay with. My preferred approach is to transfer. Acrylic painted wood slices can be transferred to. Because they are painted, this simply means that they won't be porous and so drying time is a little longer (few minutes with heat gun or hair dryer). Now if you don't use my transfer paper, the other options are to use regular paper. But with a painted surface, you must be careful that you don't rub off the paint and image because you'll have to wet and rub, wet and rub for complete removal of the paper. It's a mess. That's why transfer paper is the better route. It is moistened and peel. Tada!
