Thank you so much for sharing! I have a small backyard and was looking to see how to prune grapevines so I can keep them in a smaller space. This video really helped!
Brilliant. Thanks a lot. I'm doing something similar with the way I'm supporting my Albany Surprise grape. I'm basing it on the Kniffin style. I have four posts in a square in the ground with a trellis on the top (like a roof). I've cut the trellis so it's round (about 5 feet in diameter). I've planted the grape in the centre of the square, and it's growing up a stake and out the centre of the round-shaped trellis roof. I'll prune the grape how you've shown here, but I will feed the four canes through the top-centre of the trellis and allow it to grow outward and hang down around the sides. (I'm not sure if I'm explaining this well!....lol). Anyway, I thought this Kniffin system was perfect for my scenario. I'm just about to look and see if you have any summer-pruning videos (or if I even have to worry about that.) Thanks so much for your efforts.
Geez, I’ve just been letting my Concord vines grow all along my pool fence, up the screen room wall to the second story deck and all along the house gable, English cottage style. I never have pruned them, and I leave a lot of the grapes to feed the winter birds. If I start pruning them now can I maintain that “natural growth” appearance?
