      We adopted our 5, sold our big house in suburbia, moved to an old farm on 26 acres. We now raise rabbits, sheep, chickens, pigs and grow much of our own food. We all learn at home and our kids ferment, preserve and do many wonderful things with our food. I agree 100%. Best life ever!!

    You give me confidence to take on my mess. We moved to this house four years ago and the grape vines were lying on the ground, and had been for awhile. The first year we brutally chopped them, and had no fruit at all. Probably didn't leave any knuckles! I love that term. I'm ready to give it another try--though I'm still afraid! lol We are in WA, so it's time to do it, but not too late. I didn't prune last year at all due to the lack of fruit the year before. The vines are no longer on the ground, but they are seriously twisted from who-knows-how-long on the ground. I'm taking some cuttings this year to start a fresh area (better suited) and plant grow them up an arch.

    Working with native Concorde vines here in Boston which grew so long over 30 years they knocked down a 40’ stockade fence. Occasionally I’ve buried a runner then cut it off to propagate new vines. After watching you I made post and wires and everything seems in order now. Thanks so much and also to the camera operator who did a great job. 🍇

    Great video. Thank you for not using excessive technical, advanced terminology. After all, people who seek advice are on this site because they are not experts. Experts who understand deeply technical verbiage will not be on instructional sites. I spent time in California acquiring real estate used for developing easement and rights-of-way for utilities from Mexico to Canada. In dealing with vineyard owners and growers, I made every attempt to learn growing techniques. Now retired, I am growing muscadine grapes, which are native to my area (southern Louisiana). Many sites bombard viewers with technical terms that are, of course, foreign and/or confusing to beginners. Now retired and owning acreage, I have time to devote to growing fruit trees, grapes and lots of annual vegetables as well. My intention is to grow several grape varieties as my skill and knowledge increases.

My neighbor has wonderful grapes growing over his fence into my yard, and I wanted to prune them in a way to both control the foliage, yet have lots of grapes. I was feeling intimidated by all of the other grape growing tutorials, but you help a lot by showing what is important, and that there is room to not be perfect. Thank you.

      Which technique are you using for rooting the cuttings?

    • @vancejohn4834
      @vancejohn4834 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@julientobyfullmer7230 I used a tall container and potting soil. 4 cuttings per planter. watered them 3 or 4 times a day. it was shaded area. I also used sand in a cut of gallon jug. I think I hit the watering just right. The sand technique i started inside but there really wasn't any heat in that room. I did use rooting hormone.

    Thank you excellent video, I’ve just planting 3 🍇 few months ago they are doing well. I was wondering about pruning when I ran into this video and subscribed. But how does one get them started to get an established branch since the beginning or when? Do you have a video for planting or when do I first prune, do I prepare a main branch immediately or until when? Please advise, I noticed the plant has several small branches not just a main one but I’m not sure if too young. You are correct in saying the technical wording and drawings are confusing to a person like me. So I was about to give up,

    • @57Vlada
      @57Vlada  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am glad you did not give up Martha. As for when to prune new seedlings, I would suggest to let the new plant get established during the first year. You can start pruning during the second year when you can also choose which growth to nurture and which to remove to form the plant....I hope this helps. By the way, I am glad to have you with us on this channel. Cheers, Vlada

    I notice some of your pruning cuts are not clean but somewhat jagged. Most likely due to not too sharp pruners or poorly tuned pruners. I do like your pruning uniform.
