OMG, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!! I've wasted countless hours watching videos on growing/maintaining grape vines (many by college students, professors, and grape vine specific landscapers.), but your video has been THE ONLY ONE that has offered the most helpful detail. I don't mean to demean your credentials by comparing them against the pre-mentioned positions, but to the contrary. Not only did you provide the informational details, but you (where all previous others failed in one way or another) also demonstrated it in a way that was easy to understand. Only now do I FULLY understand how to maintain grape vines. I have 4 Concord vines (amongst other fruiting vines/shrubs/etc) that I planted last year as starts, :( but all the confusing information has set me back until now. Thank you sooo much for your video.

so much miss information in this video, for starters a 4 arm kniffin uses cane pruning system not cordon what you have. in the video you said you can prune any time of year but you should have a really good reason for pruning green wood as thats a dwarfing action.

Thank you for showing me your vines and made it easy to understand and see how it looks. I have 2questions: Why 4 arms why not 2 only. does more arms mean more grapes?
The other question: How many buds do I keep in each spur and if I keep more does it mean more grapes?

Thanks for watching my video and for your commenting! I like this system because it does produce a lot of new fruiting growth. It also keeps it all flat against my fence as I have little room between the grape vines and garden beds.

Can you tell me if those metal posts will hold a grapevine or if wood should be used? I'm putting in some MARS and BLUEBERRY grapevines and my property has a Concord that is at least 50 years old (needs some real help). I'm planning to make my trellis 6-ft high with 2-3 strands, 5-ft in both directions. Any advice you can give me on chopping the truck off at ground level will be helpful because the wood is in poor condition with at least four cordons on a single wire (someone kept piling the new growth on the structure). Thank You! I'm working on getting a new vine from cane cuttings.

It sounds like you have some fun projects going on! If your Concord is 50 years old, getting new cuttings from it just may be the best way. Cutting back that much growth takes a significant amount of work. I successfully have done it with only a couple of clients on a vine that old and we didn't cut the trunk to the ground with those the first year.
See if you can identify the main trunk and cut most of the vine back to that point. Once you do that, you may find newer vines that have rooted themselves to the ground. If there are any, you can start to train those as the new trunk and then once the new trunk is established you can cut the old trunk to the ground. If the trunk is really old, sometimes it won't regenerate. This may be a multi year project.
The metal posts will hold a grapevine, but to make sure they weren't pulled over by the weight, I concrete in every other post using quick set concrete.
Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Nice video. One question, @08:13 you said you left one bud. Didn't you leave two? Is there not one where the spur meets the cordon? I'm starting some vines and trying to learn about the care and just want to make sure I'm understanding all the different terminology and structure. Thanks!

You are right, there would be another bud at the base. I did say one bud in the video because most people don't realize that. You are ahead of most people😁. Geowing grapes is so much fun! Good luck with yours. It looks like you are off to a good start.
