I live in my family home. Until I buy out the other people on the deed, absolutely no major improvements will be made in this house. Period. Only required maintenance.
My mom was upset some of her siblings weren’t willing to give or sell their share of my grandparents’ house after they died. She was living with my grandmother when she died and everyone else already had a house of their own. The agreement was my mom paid taxes, insurance, utilities, and minor maintenance. Major maintenance was shared. A new roof is necessary maintenance. Eventually my mom decided she no longer wanted to live there because a 4 bedroom house was a lot to keep up, and she wasn’t willing to get a loan to renovate it if she didn’t outright own it.
@@anndeecosita3586 some family members, and trust me I have some myself, are simply ridiculous humans. My husband and I are taking this time to just save so we can purchase our own home. I don’t understand what the screeners do. Some people ramble for ten minutes before the hosts have to ask “ok so what is your call about?” Like you said it should not be that hard to do a run through before they go on air.
This is exactly why Dave says owning a home when you are not ready is a huge mistake. Some homes are a money bit of repairs after repairs. Renting for them two is the better choice
Good lord…it would have been better to take out a HELOC for those updates than credit cards that have 30%+ interest rates. They are going to have to sell this house.
I know for her it is obviously always Turdsday and I have had a few myself. I have been screwed over by a couple of contractors, fortunately we paid with cash and not credit.
This is a very typical situation in Black communities. Many elders did not have wills for one reason or the other. In some states there are organizations that are helping folks with issues like this. For example, in Louisiana, we have legal organizations working on "heirs property" issues. This is very sad but also very common.
Sounds like there was something like a will which is why she and her sister can deduct whatever they spend on renovations from how much their siblings receive if it’s sold. I’m black and my family is from Mississippi and Alabama. My family issues happen not because a lack of wills but that the wills don’t leave the homes/land to ONE person. The parents don’t want to show favoritism and likely hope the kids will either sell and split the profits or one of the children will buy the rest out. The problem is when the kids refuse to do either which is often the same result as inheritance of heir property. With both of my maternal grandparents it worked out. My grandmother got a loan and bought out her siblings to buy my great grandparents house and gave it to her daughter. My grandfather sold his share of inheritance to his siblings. However when my grandparents died their children refused to do either of these which created the problems. The house was paid off BTW. Some of my mom’s siblings refused to sell to her or anyone else even through she was living there and they all have own their own homes. Then on my paternal side the house was left to an aunt who couldn’t afford the mortgage, taxes and insurance but she refused to sell to my other aunt and her husband who took it over. She kept accusing them of “stealing” her house. They eventually moved out. Huge mess. Nowadays more of my relatives are dividing and deeding off property to their kids before they pass away .
Peak Dave Ramsey of 3-5 years ago had the best formula. Two questions. 1 whats your household income? 2. How much are you spending on cars? .... get those 2 things established early in the call and it saves you a lot of confusion
I feel like in this call George and Jade confused the caller. Sounds like she said she took out 4 credit cards for renovations and her sister is paying for 2 of them. Somehow that got interpreted as her having 2 in her name and her sister having 2. And the caller was probably trying to follow what George and Jade were saying so wasn't paying much attention to the mixup and responded yes to her only having 2 cards, because in her head she probably only sees those 2 cards as hers because of her agreement with her sister.
I inherited the family farm house. Spent over $200,000 on upgrades, maintenance. Wish I hadn't Have $36,000 in a home equity loan. One credit card paid off monthly. Just found Dave Ramsey! I think this lady might be able to claim a greater share of ownership if she has receipts for everything. Get a good lawyer.
That's awesome. Nice to hear there are still some who pay their student loans back and aren't waiting for the government to "erase" them. I'm guessing you are smart and studied a hard science or engineering and not "general studies".
Put the house up for sale and the 2 people living in it should buy it. Give the other siblings their share from the sale and the two left living their will be the only ones on the deed and the mortgage. But the fact that a parent dies and you have no place to stay speaks volumes.
She should NOT buy this house with her sister. Sell the house to a stranger, take her cut of the profits, and go move to another state. This persons relationship with family is so dysfunctional, it’s a recipe for disaster.
She should have had the house valued before she started renovations and documented all money spent on the house. At sale, her uninvolved siblings would get their share of what the house was valued before renovations minus the amount the caller and sister paid in mortgage payments during that time..
This is always the case in situations where multiple people have ties to a property where the majority don’t put anything into it. EVERYONE wants their SHARE, no one wants to CONTRIBUTE though!! 😮
She is the one getting the value of living in the house, so it is fair for her to pay more in the maintenance or things she needs to live there and if she wants something not necessary they have no obligation to participate in or accept that.
I bet she owes more than she said. She can't even remember how much she is paying on her credit card debt. Or how much is left on her car loans. I also think that her siblings wanted to sell the house and split the proceeds, but she and her sister didn't agree. That is why they have to pay for everything, just the two of them . The advice given was solid: sell everything and get out of debt as quickly as possible.
There were errors on both sides. The caller didn’t have her numbers and Jade and George don’t know how to break down a call. Dave would’ve taken care of this in 3 minutes. These kids aren’t ready to screen these calls. Bring Dave back.
My parents have done exactly what this woman is describing, in a family meeting i told them i am not interested, as it is going to cause all sorts off issues when they have past away, now about a year later, siblings are not on speaking terms, if my parents do die in the next few years, it is going to cause so much chaos, as one sibling will want to house, the other would want to sell it etc. really poor planning from the deceased parents, house should've been sold, and split into the amount of siblings, and life goes on....
Should have created an LLC with all siblings as equal partners. The house would be titled to the LLC. The LLC would be responsible for paying the mortgage and the two sisters living in the house would pay rent to the LLC. The renovations could be considered Leasehold Improvements and could be handled in one of two ways: 1. All parties agree to the renovations and to a dollar amount. Upon sale of the premises, there would be a contractual reimbursement to the two sisters who funded the renovation, or 2. All parties agree to the renovations, but there will be no reimbursement of funds upon sale of the premises. This whole situation is not going to end well. Doesn't sound as though anything is written down, everything is ad hoc, and somebody's feelings are going to get hurt.
Jade and George did not do a good job of gathering information on this call. They talked over each other at times and they also kept asking new questions taking the caller in a new direction. Obviously this caller is completely disorganized. This call needed one personality asking pointed questions to get all of the pertinent information.
These comments are so insensitive! I suppose everyone on here living debt free and can be the financial judge… have a little compassion… she has called in for help!!! Shish!!!

George where's my free book for listening to this call in it's entirety. OMG this was nerve racking!!!! what the &^%$#@!!!! Jade was on it...sell sell sell and run!!!!
How hard is it to get to the point and have your info ready to go? I remember when I worked at a restaurant taking orders over the phone and a customer called me asking me to read off the menu and they sat on the phone for like 10 minutes trying to figure out what they wanted and asking me what was good. Meanwhile I was the only one taking calls and the phone was ringing off the hook from other customers. I wanted to say something but I didn’t want to be rude and I was only like 16 at the time. People like that give me the feeling they are entitled and they’re more important than others.
What a convoluted nightmare. You have to stop that pattern. Stop allowing chaos because family asks for it. For such a messy call its simple math. Sell the cars and downgrade. Sell the house and split the proceeds. Pay the other stuff off and work the baby steps. But after listening to this migraine inducing call, something tells me she's not going to do this
Exhausting!! Failure on caller. Failure on hosts. Did we doing something? Why are we being punished like this. Dave would have taken care of business on this one. 👊
Inherited a house they couldn't afford and decided to renovate it using debt and blaming the contractor. This is an adult thats never learned how to handle money and inherited an albatross of a house with her sister.
Did she and sister offer to buy the others before she started the renovations? That’s the first thing I would have tried to do. I am not going to fault them for not paying for repairs on a house they don’t want. Especially repairs needed 11 years after their dad died. Also if the two sisters have paid the mortgage for 11 years and likely the dad paid for many years then there shouldn’t be that many years left I would think?
The deceased dad screwed the caller with home repairs. The siblings screwed the caller by not helping pay for home repairs. The caller's sister who she lives with screwed her by getting her to buy her a car. The caller is fuked.
Lately, it feels to me like they don’t give as good advice as they used to. They didn’t break down her expenses to show that if she does detailed budget, she’ll find out that she has plenty of money to pay everything, specially after getting rid of the sister’s car.
@JustinCase780 LOL my little keyboard is that it. My finances are good in part because I make good choices. They called into the show, not me. They can continue to struggle or make better choices. It is their choice, I really don't care except for entertainment and a reminder for me to make good choices!
Selling is a terrible idea. They are only paying $800 each and rent would be far more. They just need to get rid of the cars and increase their income.
Let the sister pay for her own car. So what is their advice? Sell the house? I would not sell. $1,600 in Sacramento is cheap $800 each is cheap. Rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is like 2k. A mortgage is like 3 or 4k. I would keep the house. Saying to sell it, is just very, very, very bad advice.
honestly, if they put no money in the house they should not get anything. they have to pay me what i put in from the sale or ill take them to court and take them off the deed. sell the two cars . Get something less expensive..
If they are “owners” then they are responsible for paying the mortgage as well. Maybe not utilities but DEFINITELY need to pay the mortgage. If they don’t want to then they lose that equity if they sell the home. By law as owners they are responsible for mortgage payments
@@FrankS111 Obviously these two agreed to take on the very low mortgage payments to have a place to live and hold the property in the family. They are not getting screwed by their siblings.

Meanwhile I was the only one taking calls and the phone was ringing off the hook from other customers. I wanted to say something but I didn’t want to be rude and I was only like 16 at the time. People like that give me the feeling they are entitled and they’re more important than others.
" do you have any savings?"
I thought she will reply " I had really good credit"
Sell the house split the equity
What a convoluted nightmare.
You have to stop that pattern. Stop allowing chaos because family asks for it.
For such a messy call its simple math.
Sell the cars and downgrade. Sell the house and split the proceeds. Pay the other stuff off and work the baby steps.
But after listening to this migraine inducing call, something tells me she's not going to do this
$1600 for a mortgage on a house falling apart is crazy.
Exhausting!! Failure on caller. Failure on hosts. Did we doing something? Why are we being punished like this.
Dave would have taken care of business on this one. 👊
This is genuinely a royal cluster**** 😂
😂🤣 this lady is a mess smh
You know it when they put the music on early that it is a mess.
I will be in the same situation soon…..
Lately, it feels to me like they don’t give as good advice as they used to. They didn’t break down her expenses to show that if she does detailed budget, she’ll find out that she has plenty of money to pay everything, specially after getting rid of the sister’s car.
They ran out of time. It took them forever to get the pertinent info
Sell, it's that simple!
Typing your little keyboard with ease is simple. It's their home and the mortgage is peanuts in a very expensive area. So, not.
@JustinCase780 LOL my little keyboard is that it. My finances are good in part because I make good choices. They called into the show, not me. They can continue to struggle or make better choices. It is their choice, I really don't care except for entertainment and a reminder for me to make good choices!
@@GAFB1122 All about you needing confirmation bias.
@@JustinCase780 You replied. Thanks for playing 🤣🤣🤣
Selling is a terrible idea. They are only paying $800 each and rent would be far more. They just need to get rid of the cars and increase their income.
Scatter brain! OMG
I couldn’t even finish this
Let the sister pay for her own car.
So what is their advice? Sell the house?
I would not sell. $1,600 in Sacramento is cheap
$800 each is cheap. Rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is like 2k. A mortgage is like 3 or 4k.
I would keep the house.
Saying to sell it, is just very, very, very bad advice.
Exactly. Keep the house. Get rid of the cars. Increase salary.
Credit cards are never the answer. When will people learn. She sounds like a sweet person but Jesus she was all over the place. Good job hosts!
She aint getting crap back when it sells besides a equal portion of the profits they losing big time on this deal
Valarie‼️
honestly, if they put no money in the house they should not get anything. they have to pay me what i put in from the sale or ill take them to court and take them off the deed. sell the two cars . Get something less expensive..
Where are they getting something less expensive that what they are paying now?
@@jimmymcgill6778 go rent a place
Reason why there selling amount of debt they have
@@queen.kristal8395 Still not that bad.
Average rent for a 2 bedroom is 2k. For 1 bedroom, 1.5k.
There are paying 20% of their income to the house.
Before she told George the sister's debt was separate, I thought that part was so obvious. Maybe he was distracted by bad joke ideas.
jees this was a rambling call.
summary: she is getting screwed over by her siblings and when the house sells this is going to end up in court.
how did they untangle that one? it faded out too soon.
Yeah, no. Get rid of the house!
The other siblings don't live in the house so why would Jade expect them to support the cost of living in the house.
If they are “owners” then they are responsible for paying the mortgage as well. Maybe not utilities but DEFINITELY need to pay the mortgage. If they don’t want to then they lose that equity if they sell the home. By law as owners they are responsible for mortgage payments
They aren't. And they won't the house should have been sold.
@@FrankS111I disagree. If they decided to live there, it’s on them to pay the mortgage
@@FrankS111 Obviously these two agreed to take on the very low mortgage payments to have a place to live and hold the property in the family. They are not getting screwed by their siblings.
@@FrankS111 YEAH. The other's don't deserves anything.
Seriously, I can see why she's in debt. Holly crap
