    She sits so well! I am about to trim the "bangs" on my polish and wanted to make sure I have the right technique. Mine is not a show bird, so she probably will not tolerate being handled so nicely, haha, may have to roll her up in a towel like a little chicken burrito. But this is a good guide for me, thank you!

      They definitely go through a stage where they have to grow into their crests. Sometimes you do have to give the youngsters a trim!

      Always great to have an experienced owner Chicken Wired , she is quite petite so hopefully she’ll grow into her hairdo . Thanks for the knowledge!

      @@ChickenWired I would love to see the children of that beautiful hen, here in Spain we do not have that large variety, I have the large blue variety with white crest and the black bantam variety with the white crest. but I would love to get that wonderful variety that you have

    Hi there, thanks for uploading a video featuring a technique. Does this breed even have a comb?

    • @ChickenWired
      @ChickenWired  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are allowed a "V" or duplex comb but small to natural absence is preferred for show. You'll see more visible combs in hatchery stock birds.

    Have you ever experienced the rooster acting strangely after a trim?

    • @ChickenWired
      @ChickenWired  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      strange in what in what way?

    So hens have wattles as well? I thought I had 7 roosters because they all starting to get wattles. Some have really big wattles and some just have like some really tiny wattles so 🤷 confused me.

    • @ChickenWired
      @ChickenWired  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep nonbearded hens will have wattles. they are more visible during poduction.

    How do you train your chickens to be so calm? We have a black polish, and I can tell she can’t see, and even with frequent hand feeding, she has never tolerated holding or petting.

      honestly part of it is just how you hold them so they don't get the feeling that you are going to hurt them, the other part comes from trying to avoid breeding birds that are high strung and nervous as these traits, just like aggression towards people, can be inherited. This bird is an older bird who has been handled many times so that helps too. There's a good video series put out by the sustainable poultry network that talk about how to handle birds.

    How many eggs do polish hens lay a year?

    • @ericgarcia4049
      @ericgarcia4049 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not as many as other breeds, but they do lay eggs. Every other day with good conditions from my experience

    • @ChickenWired
      @ChickenWired  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it'll depend on the line, some lines don't lay well others lay very well. If eggs are what you're after I would recommend hatchery stock as they have production as a higher priority. At one time the Polish was considered a very reliable farmyard layer.
