Chicken Haircut - Polish Chickens

Polish Chickens has lots of poofy feathers on the top of their head even females. This can block their vision. I trim my chicken's a bit like a chicken haircut.
1. Pick up chicken so they get used to being held.
2. Keep scissors parallel to the eye to avoid accidents
3. Go slow, if chicken fusses a lot put them down.
4. Don't trim too close to the skin, feathers have a bloodline at the base.
5. Don't trim too close to the skin as they can get sunburn from bald patches.
6. Trim every 4 months or so

How deep can I trim? I really don't want to end up cutting too much and hurting my girls

Usually about Half the feather can be trimmed. Head feathers on polish are mostly decorative and you won't hurt them (unlike wing feather which can be cut too short). Leave a bit of head feather there to protect from sunburn.
