The originals on my 1998 GMC Suburban are longer just like your replacements. They must have started making them longer after 1995. Neither of the switches work on my front doors, so I bought the same ones as you did. Will be replacing this weekend. Thank you for the informative video! Mine has the delay where after you shut the doors, the lights stay on for about 15 seconds.
Thanks to 1road I changed and upgraded my alternator and battery to my 95 Chevy gmc suburban I got a real surge of testicular fortitude when I turned that key 🔑 and fired my baby up Fuck yeah MURICA 🙌🏼
For the passenger side i used a long skinny screw driver with a hook on the end to pull the wire threw the defrost vent to unplug the switch. The old broken switch fell threw the bottom of the dash. Hope this helps!
I have a great idea for a video for anybody with a 95 to 99 Suburban because I'm stumped and I'm looking all over TH-cam to find the answer. I have a 1999 Chevy Suburban that has the Dome override and the problem I'm having after replacing my door switch is I can't get the interior light the shut off when I open the door and close it I have tried with the Dome override pushed-in also pushed out and then the rotating switch to dim your dash lights has two detent and I'm not sure what the first one is for the second one automatically turns the interior lights on. When it's on the first one or below the first one the dome light stays on constantly and does not shut off
Kevin, did you ever fix your problem? I have a similar issue with my 98 K1500, I had to remove the fuse for the interior lights because they just stayed on all the time even with the Dome Override pushed in.
Late as balls reply, but make sure you didnt roll your rheostat all the way up. Its the dial you can use to adjust your night instrument light brightness. Rotated all the way up, it turns on the interior lights.
I had a question if you got a video of the gauge of the cooling I just changed my thermostat I made sure there was no air in the cooling lines check if there's any freeze and everything seems good but my Gauge will go from One coater then to 3/4 like it Going to overheat but then goes down
He has one video which he replaced one of the temperature sensors in the truck. These GMT-400 actually have two different sensors, one for the computer and one for the gauge in the dash. Literally jist had a door switch start acting up tonight. Interior light randomly coming on and going off. Smacked the exterior passenger door about where the plunger is and yup, light went out, lol. Off to the parts store tomorrow.
It's also the same as the the S10. In my 1998 S10 the passenger side works, but the driver's side doesn't. It would be nice to have the lights come on when you open the door at night or have the radio go off when you open the door, instead of having to manually turn it off.

the switches control the ground for the light, so if there is no switch, on ground and no light. however if the switch is connected and not installed , the switch closes the connection to ground and the light stays on, ( until the battery dies).
Just did one. The proper way is to drop the panel under the steering wheel and it's right there by the parking brake release. Need a pick or flathead to unplug

before removing the switch, spray it with electrical contact cleaner.....

I had not thought of going in through the fuse box to hold the plug. That will make the left side pretty easy. The right side may be difficult.
Probably too late now, but the right sides easier since the glovebox is an easy removal and gives you easy access

Truthfully, take the 5 extra minute's and take off your cluster bezel, wiring is right there.

Just bought a 94 Silverado and both sides are missing and I can’t find the wires. There are just holes where they used to be. Weird.

The unit is under the dash and easy to find. You can unplug it and leave it that way or replace it fairly cheaply if you prefer the sound.

Probably a bad wire or bad ground. Get the DVOM out and start at the switch terminal. Also search YT.

No. Mine has been broken for a while.. you just have to manual turn on the lights
the switches control the ground for the light, so if there is no switch, on ground and no light. however if the switch is connected and not installed , the switch closes the connection to ground and the light stays on, ( until the battery dies).
Pretty useless video if you ask me. You need to show your full process. Show how you take the old switch out and how you disconnected the switch.
