Really enjoyed seeing a snippet of you in your most raw and deep moment of thinking. Hiking, kayaking, any outdoor activity to decompress always helps to gather ourselves. Awesome trip and can't wait for you to start the AT next year.
Thanks Monique, I'm jumping out of my skin for the hike next year. Seems so far away but there is still lots to do before it happens. Still Feb 23rd can't come quick enough.
I did a kayak trip with a buddy some years ago, Matamoras to Delaware Water Gap on the Delaware. Four days, three nights, camped on the islands. Great time.
Love the Clarion and Cooks Forest. If you ever come back the State Game Lands to have several free camping areas along the river. Mostly at Irwin Launch, Robin Island Launch, and Millstone Launch. Great footage!
Dear freeze I like the mix of water sports a and backpacking videos. Been watching Gary and he is killing it . Looking forward to seeing your thur hike next year ✌✌
NATURE is the BEST THERAPY....i feel ya on the decompressing stuff..great video man..kayaks are so much fun...glad you got to chill out with them..good times for sure
Kayaking or “Yak Packing” has become my favorite trips. We had a great time - looks like we are taking a year off of the yearly trips next year for your AT trip
Decisions, decisions, decisions on a Wednesday evening. Two new awesome videos in my subscriber queue. One is your kayaking vlog and the other was a mountain lion encounter by Homemade Wanderlust on the CDT. Anyway, have to watch them both. Great adventure vlog Jason. I loved seeing the wildlife and pranking Rick with the snake was classic. Very cool!
This is a needed trip I could tell. Nature fuels, heals, and renews your soul. Great relaxing adventure Jason. Don't over plan the AT hike it takes the enjoyment level down. one step at a time, one day at a time Springer to Kahtaden.
I'm only planning my first 2 resupplies on my AT hike. There's no point in doing anymore. I will plan some mail drops too but other than that keeping it relaxed. Thanks for the comments Clara!
Very good video despite the audio, but that's why you use the GoPro in the river. I would also switch back to the Warbonnet if they would ever offer fabric choices like the DH. Since my DH zipper problem I'm now always worried on each trip that it could fail. It has worked good for now since the 2nd night at Mohican.
Dude you don't know what geese sound like compared to ducks? If they were mad they probably were protecting their nests. Geese are really good parents. After they're born, they walk in single file with one parent in the front & the other in the back.
Looks like fun. My 50 miler on the Allegheny got cancelled so I'm doing Irwin Run to Cooksburg next weekend with my wife and kids. Can't wait. Was that rope swing before or after Irwin Run? Also if you guys want another yaker let me know. I can't seem to find any friends that want anything more than a day trip.
It's right before Irwin run. If you start at Irwin and want to paddle upstream it's right there. There's actually a trail at Irwin that would take you to the rope
Just an FYI for future reference...... about 6 miles down from the "burger joint" that was closed - known to us who use that area as their stompin' grounds as the Hallton Hilton - there are free campsites in the National Forest at a place called Robin Island. I camp there pretty frequently. As far as the canoe campsites at Clear Creek State Park (I've camped there since 1976 when I started going there with my parents). You can leave your canoes/kayaks up on the flat part of the river bank and walk up through camp site 41 to get to the "canoe sites". If you nose around on my Facebook photography page, there are pictures of this area that you can look at. facebook.com/DavidL.SchmudePhotography/ Just out of curiosity, who shuttled you to Ridgway? If it was the Pale Whale Canoe Livery, my cousin Matt owns that business. Glad you had a good time. If you ever want to do this area again, give me a shout on Facebook. I can help you with some logistics. Looking forward to your Quehanna video. (Also my stompin' grounds). Watch out for rattlesnakes there !!
I envy trips like this... I am planning one right now... Thanks for the video, cannot wait for the AT.. Good luck on that trip.. Did you see that big fish jump right after the eagle sitting. 6:13 over your left shoulder
Welcome to the wonderful Clarion River! Finally a video I've done 1st lol usually I'm recording my adventures on trails you've blazed before. Next time you do Y rapid stay to the left (check out my canoe videos)
what direction does the river flow in there? im trying to plan a trip on thst river and from the maps i found i cant tell what direction the water flows. id hate to end up trying to plan the trip upstream on accident lol
What's this? Floating down a river like a duck is doing nothing to get those AT legs ready. LOL! Seriously though, Awesome video. Glad you had a great time . Got a little deep there for a moment. Keep you head up. February will be here before you know it. Enjoy the journey and be thankful for the little things. Oh yeah BTW....weird seeing you in that hat man. Go get your buff back. And quit trying to be Gary with a life jacket. Lol Cheers!!!!!
Yea works been a bit rough, or maybe I'm just noticing it more. Think it's gonna be my town headgear because my hair looks goofy in the buff after a few days. I could never live up to shirtless Gary standards. He's close to the 100 mile wilderness by the way! Almost ready to climb the mountain.
Stay away from the salty prepackaged food. You can bring flat bread, precooked rice, packaged tuna, salmon, Turkey and little packs of mayo mustard ketchup or ranch. Hormel makes dinners that cost 3 dollars are weightless and cooked. High fiber granola and fruit cups, oatmeal, dried fruit and if you are into meat there’s jerky and etc. sardines, smoked oysters and muscles are excellent camping food. Nuts and raisins people
Outdoor Adventures i usually watch ur footage and redo all the trails that u did. This is the 1st time u do something that i did 1st already. So weird to see all these scenes, rapids, campsites,... flash back to my memory lol. 😂
Outdoor Adventures No doubt it would be Dolly Sods. 2nd maybe Tracy Ridge in Allegheny. I have an excel sheet filled with all ur trips detailing campsites, parking,... and im just doing them 1 by 1 lol
Hi everyone! Beginner kayaker here. Does anyone have recommendations for a person like myself. I only plan to take it out on lakes and rivers. I live near the Gulf so occasional beach trip into the water. Don’t want to break the bank. Thanks!
Yeah keep an eye on the water level for sure- I think Rick posted the link in the threads here somewhere. I think if you go in with a fishing mindset you could pull some in- we were really cranking some mileage so I just fished here and there.
That is a sweet map he had. Do you know where one could get that? Looked like a sweet trip! Hope your stresses sort out and know we believe in you and send positive vibes your way:)
3:46......that stuff is disgusting. They messed-up the original and gave you artificial tasting cheese in this new crap. Take pasta and Velveeta with you for true good taste. You guys use small kayaks. I own a 16 ft. Carolina that has taken me to many places; small and wide. Heavier, but more manoeuvrable on the water with its rudder. Two dry spaces also. If you think that a Carolina is too long for the Clarion, ....try it on the streams and rivers in the UP of Michigan! It fits me well and works through most of the problem stretches. I like having the ability to load the boat out to its max for a long stay in the wilds. On top of that, it works well in Superior. I paddle no farther than 10 minutes from shore. Saw a storm come up from a puff ball to full-fledged storm in 10 minutes. Love the UP and its people. So much beauty in so empty a land. But a hunter and fishermans paradise. Except for the bugs!
If you're planning a trip, check out the waterdata.usgs.gov website. There's a gauge in Ridgeway and cooksburg to look at for reference. According to some guide books I've used to plan the trip, if its less than 3 feet don't bother. Of course, we were stuck several times-its shallow in spots, deep in others.
Arcana73 cool thanks. Looks like a good time. I usually do the upper ADK and have hopped ponds but that's a heck of a drive. Being this is only ~3 hours from me I could do it more often.
I has no involvement in planning this one but I'd say go a little farther the first day and make it an over night or go up a few more miles and try to camp after the rapids the 2nd day. Sorry I can't be of more help here.
Love your videos man. Gary needs to keep his shirt on when he guest stars, or you need to censor it. Can't imagine the chafing that goes on and sets a bad example to new hikers... just my opinion of course. Great vid.
5:07.....Don't harass the Geese! 6:12.......Bald Eagles. Seen them here in Ohio. So what? We watch Peregrine Falcons take pigeons in downtown Akron at 500 feet from the skyscrapers. 6:56......You ALWAYS wear your PFD. 9:20......yeah,....drag that sucker up on the rocks without a care. I guess you like to replace your kayaks every two years. 9:28....Why would you use somebody's campsite? The trash. The outhouse (above or below ground)? The total desolation of a site by weekender campers? I go elsewhere and find a place that the idiots have not desecrated. I leave nothing to show that I have been there. Standard UP camping practices. Leave the land as you found it. Buy the Stratos Hammock system. No worries. Stoves are totally what you as a person want. I run a MSR Whisperlite International, a Trangia standard or a Military Trangia in my M40 Swedish cook kit. Or my Firebox for steak or trout. Now you see why I use a 16 ft. kayak for exploring. I need it for the gear that I carry. Total gear and food load for a week weigh about 70 lbs. 11:34....looks like a MSR stove set-up. 11:49......yes, they tried to use their new axe to chop-down a deadfall tree. Useful idiots. And pine 2x4 wood? Worthless. Pop and throw sparks all night. You guys need to get out west. Take your shitty little kayaks out to the Salmon River in Idaho and find out what real outback paddling and camping is about. Then you might know why most of us use 16 footers for our travels. Better wear a helmet and have a PFD that is good in rapid waters. But what you will see is beyond belief of most casual paddlers and campers. I have heard coyotes howling on both sides of me by a stream that I was panning for gold. The smell of a Ponderosa Pine as you walk by it. The overwhelming scent of sage in the lowlands as you climb down to your launching area for your kayaks. If you go off of the beaten paths, the wonder of the ingenuity of the Nez Perce people to live in these lands. I did a kayak trip with a buddy some years ago, Matamoras to Delaware Water Gap on the Delaware. Four days, three nights, camped on the islands. Great time.
Great place to kayak and camp. We stayed just past the z rapids on the left side last year.
Love the Clarion and Cooks Forest. If you ever come back the State Game Lands to have several free camping areas along the river. Mostly at Irwin Launch, Robin Island Launch, and Millstone Launch. Great footage!
I put relaxing river and bird sounds under this video and OMG... I need a full hour of kayaking video. Peace and Hugs kp
Had a great time glad you joined us !
Awesome stuff. That was a mink, they are really cool critters.
Oh wow I thought it was a weasel. It was really neat thanks
Dear freeze

Kayaking or “Yak Packing” has become my favorite trips. We had a great time - looks like we are taking a year off of the yearly trips next year for your AT trip
Aww don't stop the yearly trip, go without me or do it in the fall and I'll join you.
Who said we are taking a break? We will just have Tim Watson come and document for us.
Awesome video. Really enjoyed your journey down the Clarion.
Looks like a great trip. OA bingo is great need a shirt now with that incorporated I'd buy that.
A few people have said this lol
So Much Fun!! the super sharp video more than makes up for the minor problem with the audio. Beautiful trip on the water, Awesome catch of the weasel
THAT LOOKED LIKE SO MUCH FUN!
David Stillman it was!
i am glad you had fun in my next of the woods
SO GLAD YOUR EYES DIDN'T GET PECKED OUT,LOL.
AWESOME TRIP AMIGO.

I'd watch Dixie a lot prettier than Frozen
Keeping your stats up KEKOA (Warrior) love this video. Aloha Braddah.
Awesome trip man! I plan on incorporating a kayak into my future trip videos as well, adds some flavor.
Sometime consider coming to WV and doing the Greenbrier River. Much easier to have places to camp
“At least you’ll look good for the Coroner.” LMAO
Looks like a fun trip! Might have to do a some kayaking in the future
Was up there hiking Cook Forest a few weeks ago and waa trying to find the otters on the Clarion. No luck
Did you see the huge fish surface at 6:15? Dude over your left shoulder never even saw it. Maybe that is what the Eagle was ordering for lunch?
Totally missed it!
Good video man. Looks like a fun time.
Awesome
Dude you don't know what geese sound like compared to ducks? If they were mad they probably were protecting their nests. Geese are really good parents. After they're born, they walk in single file with one parent in the front & the other in the back.
Crap.....now I need to get a Kayak...lol
Nice work with the documentation. The rapids added to the excitement. Do you remember the dates of this trip?
Awesome Awesome Awesome, Bingo Bingo Bingo.
I want to know how you recharged your equipment, i.e. phone, cameras, lights when you are in the woods for days at a time.
It was right after the rapids past Aroyyo, can't remember if it was Irwin run just yet.
It's right before Irwin run. If you start at Irwin and want to paddle upstream it's right there. There's actually a trail at Irwin that would take you to the rope

That's cool, thanks for the info. It was lazy river shuttle I believe.
I envy trips like this... I am planning one right now... Thanks for the video, cannot wait for the AT.. Good luck on that trip.. Did you see that big fish jump right after the eagle sitting. 6:13 over your left shoulder
Oh wow didn't even catch that in the edit!
OA bingo? Possible merch idea. 😬 what a fun trip. A nice break to do something different.
6:16 what is coming up from the water just to the right of your shoulder???
Welcome to the wonderful Clarion River! Finally a video I've done 1st lol usually I'm recording my adventures on trails you've blazed before. Next time you do Y rapid stay to the left (check out my canoe videos)
what direction does the river flow in there? im trying to plan a trip on thst river and from the maps i found i cant tell what direction the water flows. id hate to end up trying to plan the trip upstream on accident lol
I'm trying to figure out what map that was that showed the Clarion River, said "Recreation River" but what is brand? Where to find it?
What's this? Floating down a river like a duck is doing nothing to get those AT legs ready. LOL! Seriously though, Awesome video. Glad you had a great time . Got a little deep there for a moment. Nuts and raisins people
And when you are out there , don’t worry about what time it is
That's cool. I'll give it a try.
Are permits needed here to camp in Allegheny along the rivers?
Adam K permits are not required in the forest
that looked so fun! I would have definitely did the rope swing with you guys. lol.
Frozen. Will u be doing a food video soon? Im curious to see hows ur new meal system?
I'll start doing that soon yes. I have about 3 weeks worth of videos to release first. But I will start filming it now.
Outdoor Adventures i usually watch ur footage and redo all the trails that u did. This is the 1st time u do something that i did 1st already. So weird to see all these scenes, rapids, campsites,... flash back to my memory lol. 😂
That's awesome! What has been your favorite trail so far?
Outdoor Adventures No doubt it would be Dolly Sods. 2nd maybe Tracy Ridge in Allegheny. I have an excel sheet filled with all ur trips detailing campsites, parking,... and im just doing them 1 by 1 lol
I go there a lot it’s cool (I live there)
Hi everyone! Beginner kayaker here. Does anyone have recommendations for a person like myself. I only plan to take it out on lakes and rivers. I live near the Gulf so occasional beach trip into the water. Don’t want to break the bank. Thanks!
Bam son!
First!
I enjoy your videos. You and Sintax77 should join up for a trip.
I'd be down for it. He might be a bit busy though.
Can't camp in the state game lands because they are for hunting only. Camping there might get you accidentally shot.
would be able to send me details on this trip we are looking into it?
I didn't so much planning on this one. What do you want to know?
Man that water looked shallow in some parts! What was the fishing report... any of the guys have any luck?
Todd caught a small fish and had a couple bites.
Yeah caught a small rock bass. The fishing holes were few and far between with the water so low. We saw a lot of fly fisherman though.
Sweet! No Smallies??? We will be doing our trip mid July... we will be fishing hard... hope the water levels rise a bit!!!
Yeah keep an eye on the water level for sure- I think Rick posted the link in the threads here somewhere. I think if you go in with a fishing mindset you could pull some in- we were really cranking some mileage so I just fished here and there.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip... we will be doing the opposite... hopefully cranking out a ton of fish vs. mileage! 😂
What was the trail of your next trip called
The Quehanna trail in north central PA
That is a sweet map he had. Do you know where one could get that? Looked like a sweet trip! Hope your stresses sort out and know we believe in you and send positive vibes your way:)
Trail Cat it's just a National Geographic Topo map. There's a North and South map for Allegheny National Forest.
Arcana73 Thanks!
The highlight of the trip for me was seeing the bald eagles, Y rapids, and the rope swing.
I did not care for the snake stunt.
I have no input on the snake stunt because I missed it :(
3:46......that stuff is disgusting. They messed-up the original and gave you artificial tasting cheese in this new crap. Take pasta and Velveeta with you for true good taste.

Love the UP and its people. So much beauty in so empty a land. But a hunter and fishermans paradise. Except for the bugs!
Where did you get the map from? And who was the shuttle?
The maps are just national geographic maps. Shuttle was Lazy River outfitters, there's also a country squirrel in ridgeway as well.
If you're planning a trip, check out the waterdata.usgs.gov website. There's a gauge in Ridgeway and cooksburg to look at for reference. Outdoor Adventures it's too bad most of the area is private lands... Where would you suggest parking to avoid what happened to you? Thanks!
I has no involvement in planning this one but I'd say go a little farther the first day and make it an over night or go up a few more miles and try to camp after the rapids the 2nd day. Sorry I can't be of more help here.
