Got home from work today, took a nap, and set up a 20 gallon planted tank (my first planted tank) to start cycling before adding fish in a few weeks. Then got online to check my email and had a notification for this video. Perfect timing!

WAs very helpful for my planning on what to do with my flex I just got.
Big helpful tip. Do not start your FIRST planted tank with complicated plants and big fish. Try a 20 to 30 gallon tank with 6 juvenile neon tetras and some live anubis petite or anubis nana. Maybe a small piece of smooth driftwood. And be sure you have the right sized heater and filter.

It's nice but I won't put betta with guppies cause betta will nibble on guppy tails.
Is it tru that females are less aggressive ?
doodle head I’m not a professional, but if you’re referring to betta’s I believe females are less aggressive but that doesn’t mean they aren’t aggressive at all

My very first tank was the 5 gal top fin with beta but after more research, I bought the 15gal flex tank and now, my betta is so happy, active, and making alot of bubble nest.

I have a 20 gallon tank and this makes me want to make it a planted tank! I might buy one of those and switch them over!
Also I love ghost shrimp, I have two and one of them is pregnant so you can see her eggs and it's so cool!!
I have a love hate relationship with ghost shrimp. They are useful, cool little guys, but they remind me of bugs, so I'm a little weirded out by them.

I'm trying to make a sand waterfall with a air stone,did not work should I try a powerhead or not even try and just focus on plants, your my favorite fish channel and I trust and value your advice...thanks your channel is my favorite, please keep your videos coming. I got a 20 gallon planted tank a couple of months ago that I am starting to stock. I think I'm going to end up with fancy guppies, a betta, some neons, and some cory cats and a few shrimp. Those are the coolest small fish, imo.

This is exactly what i was looking for... i have also done the same bt unfortunately all the roots of my plants started melting and the water started to stink... so i have taken out all the soils and used gravels as the substrate and planted the plants along with multi-vitamin capsules... i wanted to know if the rotting of the roots of newly planted plants and the stinking of the water is normal or not and how frequent the water change should be done and for how long? And also what should i do to prevent it..

Nice video. I have a 9 gallon version and I also have Cardinal Tetras. I bought them in two purchases and the second purchase was made online. The online fish were nice and healthy, but they were tiny and they keep getting stuck in the rear water intake. I’m going to fill that space with some appropriate material so they don’t go in there. I’ve had one death as a result of me squishing the fish with my net. Sadly, it took his loss for me to get better with my fish retrieval.

i have noticed that some things work for some and something else for others- but overall, i dont believe anyone until I see their tank. I might not do my tank the same way as Happy Tails, but the tank looks healthy. I did hear the same about the fishies not going well together, but if the plants and fish look healthy after a while, then i guess it worked for you :) thanks for vid.
What kind of flow for a 55 I'm using a wave maker what would you recommend I have a lot rocks and wood, but my rummy nose and neons hide and won't school. Getting exactly the same tank and looking to do planted too. I'm definitely getting some shrimp- they look awesome! Can someone explain when CO2 is needed? Do the lights need to be on a timer for this kind of setup? Thanks
Hello friend, you explained well how to install, I see that the substrate is vital for the plants and the trunk raises the image to the aquarium. I see that you use all the possible chemicals to stabilize ph, ammonia and others. Something complicated..., the light caught my attention, you can schedule a sunrise in time; a zenith and a sunset to settle the night. It is given by the device. I'm in touch, greetings.

Here's a cheap way... Buy those cheap fish they give to feed the Arowanas. They are hardy, keep them for a couple of weeks.

Beautiful tank! I noticed you had a male betta in with guppies. Are the guppies female in your tank or male? Iv heard stories betas do not work well with male guppies due their bright fancy tails? I’m just starting out with the same tank and would love to get a betta with guppies however not sure if a good mix? Your help would be much appreciated x

I wanted to know if its ok using the soil you used for bamboo plants. Im just wondering so i can place it inside of my live plant tank i will get soon. (Might get a betta tomorrow im not sure though) btw how do i check the nitrates and ammonia if i dont get the same things you have?
How did you cycle your tank before adding the plants??? Also do you add your water conditioner before or after the plants?
With the stuff you put in the tank for the fertilizer the one you pump in how often do you have to do that? And is it safe to do with fish in the tank?
I just got a 29 gal tank that I'm making planted I just put the soil and heater in today and hopefully tomorrow or the day after I'll be adding in a sponge filter and plants. This is going to be a guppy tank only with males and females. My question is will adding ammonia to jumpstart the cycling process harm the plants or will ghost feeding be best? Also how important is the liquid fertilizer?
does much algae develop back on the filter chambers walls? is it hard to clean algae on those chambers walls for monthly maintenance?
is the pump loud can i ask? and how does the betta feel with the flow ? to strong or is it fine with the flow
