    Here in Thailand we only got the 1.5 NA cvt. Mine is over 2 years old with 73k kilometers and got a stage 1 tune because of the lack of power, the standard engine does makes 114 ps but on the dyno it's making only 79 ps at the wheel duo to drivetrain loss, right now with the tune it has 107 wheel ps (142 ps engine). I use it every day in heavy traffic and to be honest it's not really economical compared to it's rivals ,but its still a nice little car with no major problems🙂

      Hi! I'm from Malaysia. We finally be getting mg cars to be launched in malaysia, finally to launch mg5 next month. I really like mg car. I always go to Thailand and see many mg car on the road. Because my relatives and cousins from Thailand. And I'm really planning to get this mg5. Our spec is same as yours. 1.5 na 8speed icvt. I just wanna use this car as daily driven. In town. Back and forth. My questions are. How's the reliability of this car? What are the common issues people facing. And most importantly the NVH level. I understand the price range and cannot aspect it to be super quiet, but just ok. Hope to hear from you. Thanks

      @@KingKeladi if you mainly using it in the city it drinks quite a lot of fuel, in start stop traffic you'll be looking around 7-8 km/l and for highway driving you'll get 16-18 km/l when driving under 90 km/h but when driving over 110 you'll be looking at 11-13 km/l
      The common issue you get is changing spark plugs very often ,the battery last only 2 year at most, the infotainment screen likes to freeze, under the brake peddle is a switch which like to brake and when broken you cant start the car ,some parts are expensive close to bmw prices but mostly when something brakes the warranty will cover nearly everything ,and the car speakers are terrible and gets worse when listening to high pitch music
      The good thing are that the car chassis is very strong and safe( i got rear ended by a yaris last year,the yaris front was destroyed meanwhile the mg only has a dent in the rear hatch and only scratches the rear bumper) suspension is really soft but can be trusted when driving high speed and handles very good (better than most normal Japanese cars)
      Thats all i had and can say about my mg5 so i hope this info helped you decide a bit more, please go test drive the car to make sure you really like it or not
      Good luck with your purchase 🙂

    I had one of these as a hire car for a week in Cairns, and yes your conclusions were the same as mine.
    It’s just a car, and a cheap one at that.
    There’s nothing enjoyable about it, other than it gets you from a to b.
    I found the touch screen for the heater/aircon hard to use, and the MG mascot with the racing helmet was pretty funny considering how slow the car is 😂
    The MG badge seems really out of place, considering that MG back in the 60s was a more premium brand than Morris or Austin.

    • @Bribie12
      @Bribie12 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Several BMW models have no ANCAP rating, and the Mazda CX-3 doesn't have one. Yup that's right, the CX-3.
      ANCAP is not the law, it's just an advisory body.

    • @Shifty319
      @Shifty319 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Bribie12 ANCAP is a political stunt used to fleece car manufacturers of money to get an advertising stamp of approval. They copy and paste most vehicle ratings from Euro-NCAP, and the cars they choose to review here are paid for with taxpayer dollars. Lest a manufacturer pays them to review a car.
      they're a farce. A 3 Star car in 2024 is a 5 Star car from 2020.
      The Corolla still holds a 5 Star rating even though the last review was in 2017.
      ANCAP can easily be ignored in every aspect.

    If I could spec a car to my liking. Think 1960's. Suspension and brake upgrade. That will do. Today's cars have everything you don't want, or need. All look the same. Designed by the same drag coefficient computer. Weigh a ton because of all the extra crap. And have taken away any driver input or experience. We are getting closer to autonomous vehicles. Only one more stage to fully autonomous. What is the point. Take the bus. Driving used to be more than just transport. It was an integrated experience between man and machine. It evolved as you learnt the quirks and limits. Now the cars tell you what to do, and take over. They tell you what to do. Won't let you do what you want. Ridiculous. Add to this the draconian road rules and legislation. Implemented by over zealous robots in uniform. In a bid to generate enough funding to cover their existence. Driving is no longer a pleasurable experience. Whatever you drive.

    • @club1fan552
      @club1fan552 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow. Pretty true...although if you search for a manual (and can find one) you might find some pleasure. Even the new Mazda3 and Golf now have no manuals in any spec. Manuals will very soon become something quant; like a pianola.

    • @henryh95
      @henryh95 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      For the majority of people, driving is absolutely just transport and not for enjoyment. Australia has extremely car-focused urban design, it’s a necessity for most people to drive.

    • @comicnerd1186
      @comicnerd1186 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A person who prefers silence and avoids being in a crowded place would never take public transport if he has his own vehicle. So even if that person has his own autonomous vehicle, he would still take that instead of public transport. Plus, you have to spend money everytime you take public transport, but not everyone wants to do that.
      And if you think that you have to do whatever your car tells you to do, then you are badly mistaken. It just helps you by giving warnings and suggestions, but you can still do whatever you want. Your car cannot stop you from doing anything.
      And even today, only a handful of cars are fully autonomous, and they are very expensive. Most of the cars today are still driver dependent, just with extra features.

The performance test should really be limited to the essence model to draw any conclusion. Perhaps, therefore, a bit of a poor bias review.comments like the vibe " could be more refined than the essence" really mate - you havnt driven the DCT essence but make this comment ??? I dont think your review holds any merit if you havnt realistically driven both to compare a well known dct vs cvt and the benifits of the dct.

Corolla is also $10,000 more expensive, KIA Cerato is $28.790 plus onroad equals $31,995 almost $10,000 more. You make no sense and have to compare apples to apples, you already said a 2nd hand BMW and I would also like a Mecedes SLC Turbo for around the same price as MG but that would be 10 years old?? We are talking NEW MG? vs something similar and a Picanto cant be compared, maybe a Motor Bike? Suzuki Swift = $15,000 more and Vitara $14,000 morer than MG5.Can you redo that part of the Video and try again? All these OTHER cars I compared MG5 to are much more expensive. Price Point is what we are looking for and ON THE ROAD PRICE POINT DRIVE AWAY, $24,990 impossible to beat for a similar equiipped and handsomly styled Car with a MG Badge that resonated with older generations as a Quality Sports Car.

    I've hired this car while in Australia but your analogy about just a car is right on the button but this will drag down legitimate good car manufacturers which I believe is a travesty. Acoustically the interior is affected by the hard plastics. I feel that is a compounding issue along with other cost cutting factors that this car is compromised by all adding to a tinny drive.
