I honestly like to work with my apron on, it’s very easy to get some tool to catch on the fabric and rip it off. I had that experience 2 times already. It protect my clothes and make the washing of them easier. And it also gives my family a visual indication that I am actively doing something so all happily go about our business 😂
Pencil, marking knife, 8' measuring tape, 1/2" butt chisel, 6" combo square. Also, a pouch for little job specific things that I need to keep handy but may get lost if I put them down somewhere. I could keep them on my rolling tool cart, but an apron is a good thing to have on its own, so I may as well store my most used tools right on the apron.
Its funny this came up. I used to wear an apron, and then changed that for a tool belt. I just did a video about the tool belt last week. Lol. For me, the tool belt was just more convenient and comfortable.
All natural here! lol. I do have a thin jacket I where while at the lathe. Also if I'm out in the yard processing logs into turning blanks I have a small punch (not a fanny pack) for pencils and a small square and things like that.
I always wear an apron when I'm in the shop. It has become kind of a habit to put it on whenever I start working, this way I don't have to think about it whenever I have to sharpen, or glue, or sand, or have to use one of the dirty power tools :D
A big thing here is both temperature and price- where I’m from it gets pretty hot, and I don’t usually work in air conditioning, so summers and most of spring are an automated no-go for the apron, and beyond that it just seems to take up a lot of space for a tool (if you’re willing to call it that) thst I can’t use for several months outta the year, and the other times that I’ve already pretty much acclimated to not using anyway. I’ll just stick to a shirt I’m not too worried about getting dust on
I like an apron. Partly to keep track of my pencil and square which are crazy good at wandering off, lol. But mostly because of the way it makes me feel. When I put on the apron I’m immediately in the “get shit done” mindset, and it makes me feel more like a craftsman because I think I look the part. It’s like a uniform, lol
I wear my Katz-Moses apron to keep tools, marking and measuring items handy, and to (mostly) protect my clothes from dust/shavings - especially coming off the lathe. 🙂
An apron changed my woodworking life. I keep all of the essentials on me. I stopped searching all over for tools. It makes me much more organized and productive.
Most of the time it's too hot for an apron. I do have small pouch from Rockler that clips on my belt. Holds a couple of pencils, my tape, small square, rules, etc. Saves me a ton of time looking for the marking and measuring stuff I use all the time
I love the idea of an apron. Watching Adam savage make an apron made me really want one. But my shop is tiny so i really dont need one. But theyre a great idea 👍
I tend to ruin less clothing wearing an apron glue, paint, etc. Dust isn't as big an issue for me it's mostly because I don't exclusively do just woodworking
It's even more important for a metal worker, as evidenced by all the grinder spark holes in all my shirts... I have two aprons in the shop and I almost never wear one...
depending on what I'm doing, if I'm on the rare occasion I use horrid power tools I wear an apron because they are so messy but when I'm using only hand tools ( which is almost always) I like the freedom to move .
I lose my pencil/marking knife too often without the apron. I can stare at it on the bench and not see it. also nice keeping the dust collection remote in there so I just slap my chest to turn it on before a cut
No apron for me, but not buck nekkid either. I compromise with some bib overalls with handy dandy pockets, and a tool belt. Despite all that utility, I still usually end up stowing my pencil behind my ear...
I vote apron, I wore a tool belt most of my life and I had tool at the ready. When I go on installs I get upset unless my helper wears his instead of always looking in a bucket. I wear mine always when I'm working and when I'm not working for a place to keep my hands in cold weather
I don't have an apron, but to be fair, I don't have a proper workshop yet either. I'll probably get an apron for protecting my clothes, though. Last week I tried out my new Dremel and managed cut a hole in my jeans😂
Only when I turn, along with weiders and a raincoat. I'm under some false pretense that it stops me dragging shavings and dust throughout the house as I inevitably do, without fail, everytime. I want to try a hazmat suit next.
@@WoodByWrightHowTo my fiancé would have my head if I went near the laundry with any intentions outside the capabilities of my toolbox. We are both nurses (ER and she's in ICU,) and I've ruined a dozen good sets of scrubs in 5 years haha Keep up the good vids!
I've tried several aprons over the years, some really good ones, and some not.... I always wind up going back to a tool belt... aprons make me hotter than normal and the tool belt keeps what i need at my fingertips without running my temp up in the spring and hot summers in Ga.
Are now wear an apron. After getting called to do something else I walk out jump in my truck and have ruined two seats in my truck with the stuff in my back pockets. It's taking a while to learn to take the apron off first.
I like my apron, it sort of makes me feel safe, but the front pocket is always full of sawdust and screws and blue workshop towels and some drill bits. Now I think about it, I'm going to stop wearing it!
I used my apron before due to i used power tools but after my accident and all the colorful water that stained it when the accident accured, it hangs on the wall as a reminder😅
No apron. My dumb a#% would end up feeding the apron to my table saw... seriously, it's a habit from the military about lose fitting clothing getting pulled into things more powerful than a human.
I only use an apron when I'm turning, keeps my sweaters and shirts free of chips, both wood and resin... Keeps the wife happy.

I got an apron, mainly for carving wood and knife work. Nice to have the extra layers when drawing in towards my chest.

not many people will know ....
Made me think of my university years….Glad not to use imaginary numbers anymore..By the way any engineer will like it, especially the electrical one😊

I like an apron for the pockets. I have a couple pencils, a ruler and a couple other things that live in the apron.

I wear a nail apron. It lets me carry small tools, and it's very convenient for screws/nails. I had a full apron, but it's too hot in the summer.
I wear an apron when I want to protect myself from something being ejected towards me, turning, ripping, that sort of thing.

I wear an apron mainly to keep up with my measuring tools, pencils, and knife.
I use it for big glue ups, makes a good surface to wipe the glue off my fingers.
No apron for me, but not buck nekkid either. I compromise with some bib overalls with handy dandy pockets, and a tool belt. Despite all that utility, I still usually end up stowing my pencil behind my ear...
It’s well known that measuring tapes will slip into another dimension if not secured in an apron or belt.
There’s a PHD thesis in there somewhere.

I tend to wear a thin old canvas jacket protects my clothes and provides me places to lose my pencil and marking knife in(I.e. pockets)
If I’m doing glue ups or finishing I wear my apron. If I’m on a roof, I have a much tighter cross strap apron rather than a tool belt.
I have a brown store coat that I wear when gluing or painting/varnishing, otherwise I'm just wearing whatever I'm wearing.
Nice t-shirt 👍 I don't have an apron. Maybe one day I'll get one :-) but for now I'm fine without!

I wear an apron. If I don't, I loose my pencils, tape measure and my marking knife everytime. My shop isn't much larger than James' shop. 😐

Apron, 100% that is all
No apron, but I could see it being useful when I'm using tools that generate a mess.
aprons are hot, I'm trying to find a toolbelt that's good for the tools we use for smaller woodworking.
I just wear my best clothing and after I get glue on them, they're still my best clothing 😆
Apron. Makes me look official.
If I’m using high speed tools, large lathes, large routers, I typically won’t wear anything that could be caught. That’s just me though
Overalls. Best of bolth worlds

I used to when glueing up, but now I don't bother with one.
I used my apron before due to i used power tools but after my accident and all the colorful water that stained it when the accident accured, it hangs on the wall as a reminder😅
i feel like that'd weigh down the apron and be extremely uncomfortable since it'd either bend you down or pull on your neck
I’m trying to remember to where the apron. Just to protect my clothes from wood glue and the dust.
In my shop I'm always naked under the apron of course
Where else can you wipe the bar-b-que sauce?
I use one if I work with glue and stuff like thah
I have a good sized shop and 95% power tools and i hate aprons! Ive tried a few and just cant do it
Lol where can I get this shirt?

in the apron camp, protects clothes.
Apron for metal work. No apron for woodworking.

Sometimes I wear an apron, I tend to spill a lot.
