And suddenly everyone's question of 'Why isn't Adam wearing the apron he was so proud of in recent video's?' has been answered. The original was probably off for the production model to be patterned from XD!
My wife gave me an autographed one for Christmas this year. The quality is top notch and the autograph is too cool. Can’t wait to wear it on my next build! Thank you, Adam, for making it possible for us to own one too!
I'm an artist, not really a maker, but I admire the quality of the materials this apron is made of. I would buy one to paint in because the pockets on the chest would be functional for holding brushes and further down the bib the individual hand pockets could hold in use tubes of paint. Also, I love that you designed it to bear witness to it's use. I have a collection of pallettes that I no longer use on the regular, but I can't bear to part with them because they are witness of my process and tell a story all their own. I am as attached to them, as I am atached to my people. As soon as I can afford one of these aprons, I will be buying one. Also, I was born in Cali, so there's that connection too.
Adam, you and the mythbusters are half of the reason I'm fighting through an engineering degree. I admire you so much, you are the pinnacle of "do what you love". Thank you for decades of wonder and talent, you are a gift to the world.
I wore a split leg apron for over a decade. I can offer one bit of advice. Move the clips for securing the leg flaps to the outside of the flaps. This will keep the clips from snagging on each other as you move. The same reason spur buckles are to the outside of the foot.
Thank you!! I loved it, and currently use a general leather apron that saved me on a table saw kick-back. It dented the leather, and bruised me, but I was fine. I'm currently unemployed due to Covid (although I maintain my subscription), but when I get a job this will be on my docket of things to get. Thank you for all you do for the community.
I have a similar apron and one of my favorite features is a strong magnet on the chest. I stick drill bits and screws to myself for quick access. Potential upgrade?
I have one of those magnets you can wear on your wrist that has been really handy, you could wrap it around one of the straps to have it on your chest. I also realize I'm old because of how excited I got over an apron.
The wife just bought one for me for my birthday and I couldn't be happier with it! I'm 5'7" and ordered the medium; after very quick adjustments to the strap it fits like it was custom-made for me. Brilliant design, extremely durable and well-made, and it helps to support my favorite channel. Bravo, Adam! Bravo!
The split leg feature is very useful for ceramicists who throw pots. I remember having to improvise an apron out of an old pair of jeans that I basically cut the back off and added a bib and straps tied through the belt loops because it was virtually impossible to find a ready made apron with split legs in 2005. Don't do ceramics any more but I am very much attached to my old apron from the big box craft store I worked at who decided cross back strapped aprons were too costly and switched to neck loops. Wished I'd grabbed a few more.
I am so glad you guys add a left handed hammer loop being a lefty and always having to adapt to a right hand work can be difficult and sometimes painful (I am looking at you right hand scissors) I will be getting one ASAP
Bought and paid for. I'm so happy to be fortunate enough to purchase something that Adam has designed. Thank you Adam and everyone at Tested for being so great.
I just got a job as a CNC machinist, and I'll definitely be buying one of these. I wanted one so bad when you made it and now I can get one! I'm so excited!
In regards to a neck loop on aprons, I totally agree. When I worked at the Big Box Hardware Store that wears orange aprons; the first thing I’d do when putting a new apron into service was to cut the loop and the ties off and replace them with suspenders. Total game changer,
I remember the vid where you made that apron, and I was very impressed with the design. All of the changes between your original prototype and the new prototype are predictable - canvas for the hammer loops, nylon webbing for the main and leg straps, quick-release buckles on the legs instead of snap loops, plastic D-rings for the main straps instead of punching through the canvas, and leaving out the small leather patches where the straps connect on the chest. All simple, and none making any difference in the longevity or effectiveness of the product, but all saving a lot of time and energy in manufacturing. All in all, it's a very well done shift from a one-off personal product to a production product. Features I'd suggest adding in future versions: * metal strip for a tape measure to clip on (somewhere) * loops across the chest pocket, like the hammer loops, to hold safety glasses * 2-inch hook and loop (the fuzzy side) fields above and below the chest pocket; for patches, name tapes, company logos, etc. * (4x) 1-inch D-rings, plastic or metal would work, for misc stuff like key rings and retractable ID reels; two locations: ---->along the back edge, above the hammer loops ---->on the chest where the main straps connect
If I wasn’t almost finished with the one I am making for myself, I would order one. But I do not need the split skirt as I work with very small pieces and am always pleased when the “skirt” catches what I drop, ( I had a stroke a few years ago and have a hard time hanging on to small parts,) and not having to search the floor for it. Thank you for all of your tips, tricks and ideas! Cyn
Well since the first video came out (and I couldn't buy one from you) I modified one to fit my needs. And it really made me think about what I do in my shop, and what I want to be doing. I think it was such a good exercise, and now I plan to continue wearing the one I made based on your ideas and my own thoughts. Thanks Adam!
I fell in love with that apron on the one day build as soon as you announce it would be a product available I bought 1 when the 1st batch was announced, As a welder, machinist, leather worker and gunsmith. This beautiful apron will be put through the rigours of my daily work when it arrives
I'm planning to add "wings" to the sides of the chest level of mine when it arrives, because I am both female AND wider than Adam is, so there is more frontage to get dirty/get hit with fragments from doing things. If you look at the America's Test Kitchen footage, the women have aprons that are different than the men; this is no doubt why.
When I ordered, there were not different sizes on the ordering page, so I'll have to figure out which size would be best -- only learned about this change from comments here.
Super late to the party here, but I just wanted to thank you for making this. Being based in the UK though I was a little uneasy about shipping costs and the sustainability of shipping something from so far away. Li and behold, pdf plans for $5? Yes please! I’m already planning a few minor modifications and am looking for local sources of the materials I’ll need. I love that you have the plans so affordable and that this is left handed friendly. The only modification I’m thinking to make in that regard is to flip the 2 hammer loops so that the left one is the lower, but I’ll probably wait until I make the apron to make the final decision.
OH!! HELLS to the YES!!! When my mature student grant comes in in Feb I will sooooooo be snagging one of these!!!!!! All the way from (at that time) semester 2 of 2, year 1 of 5 in my first degree program (MEng Aerospace) here in the UK @ 41 years of age.
Thanks adam! I ordered the similar shop apron that you suggested in the odb video comments of the shop apron build. and although it works well and has a similar design it was missing some key features that also think are important. So of course I have ordered this one as well from your links below. Super psyched to get it and start using it! Gives me great joy too. Knowing that you designed it and use it also.
Plier Racks for drawers. And power tool charge stations/rack. (PVC is cool too.) 2 really good ideas for really cheap really reall useful tool tips. Ones that you yourself can really appreciate.
LOVE this! For years I've ruined jeans and other pieces of clothing with paint, wood glue, etc. due to my very infrequent making schedule and hatred of uncomfortable apron. This will be at the top of my wishlist for my birthday this coming June.
In addition to being a bit of a maker and my own mechanic, I am also a car detailer. In my detailing I always need to be carrying brushes, towels, spray bottles, flashlights, small wooden skewers, cotton swabs, etc. Inevitably, on just about every detail I do, I set down a brush, forget where it is, and spend 15 minutes looking for it. Ever since seeing Adam make this apron, I've thought "Man, that would be nice to keep track of all my detailing tools while I'm working on a car..." and lo! Its available! I hit that preorder so fast. haha. I can't wait to get it!
Your workshop is DROOL-WORTHY! All three of us (myself, hubs, and 15 year old son) are into tools and building stuff! Can’t wait to settle (we’re USAF) soon and get a proper workshop set up.
Thank you for the apron and the video, I have one ordered but it's great to get a video tour of it. I can't wait to wear it while architectural model making at work!
I preordered and can't wait to get it! I've never came across an apron that really had features that seemed worth the cost.. I think this one will satisfy all my needs at a great price! 😎 Thanks for making this happen Adam!
😃 Awesome! I loved the vid where you created your apron, and I love this apron! I certainly can use this - when I get to a more "permanent" abode I will find a way to add it to my work bench (that's the first project after I move). 😁 Thank you! 💕
We ordered one for my husband (hopefully it’ll arrive soon). He’s super excited about it and I feel lucky that we got a first generation one. I also think you’re price-point is quite reasonable! Our son, also Adam, is 15 and a huge fan of yours!! We miss you being on Myth Busters but your TH-cam vids are the next best thing. I think it’s great that you have a burgeoning product line now! We will be loyal customers. Happy Holidays to you and your family! :-)
Thanks again for sharing this on TH-cam I would’ve never known you had it otherwise I checked your website a couple weeks ago and it wasn’t there. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for the next new item.
I actually modified a pair of old overalls to make my own split leg apron inspired by that one day build. I love it! It’s a good option for anybody on my kind of budget.
That is an amazing price for an amazing (looking) tool. Thank you for saving me from having to make this for myself (which I was working up the gumption to do).
Ordered and done, loved the one day build and was going to try making one, now I don't have to. Christmas present to myself as nothing like it available in the UK 🇬🇧
As soon as/if I get my bonus paycheck will buy one of these...have been drooling for one since Adam made his!!!...is so funtional and look confortable...because I did the same split leg modification long ago to a regular shop apron...long gone by now because I keep ripping them apart!!! Thanks Adam for doing this!!!
Hope this isn't a limited thing cause I'd love to get one in the future. I appreciate something that ages well. I was talking with a roommate as she was throwing out some things that I love objects that are nearly new and fresh, and that are really old with miles, patina, and stories. Never had the need for a shop apron, but I worked in kitchens for a decade and can echo the sentiment of easy bathroom breaks and the weird pleasure of functionality and comfort. Also reminds me of making an apron for my mothers birthday when I was like 9. I basically haphazardly cut fabric behind her back and asked if she could sew some stitches while she was using the sewing machine for something else.
Treat your tools well and they will do the same for you 🛠️ also, €95 is great for this apron. I was working on a TV show and the metal worker gave me one of his handmade aprons. I never wear it but its one of my favourite things
Thank you for making it so affordable. I've been on the hunt for a similar apron ever since the One Day Build. When I saw this video I expected it to be $300-$500! As soon as I saw the price I placed the order!
I think you knocked it out of the park with this one. I have a Chinese made waxed canvas apron with a neck strap and don't really like it. I really like the split leg and back brace strap features on this apron of yours! I'm 5'7" and will probably order a small.
I might snag the design and build my own but I see room for improvements. The sternum collar needs collar material for stiffness. If you were putting a pencil away without looking downwards, you'd insert it into the space between the apron and your clothing. The apron could also use some springy material in the pockets, a pencil in a stiff leather pocket will slide out the moment you reach down to pick something up. I've found a seam of leather at that spot provides a loose scrap of leather in the pocket to act as a spring and clamp the pencil in place.
I switched to a BIC sidecliques mechanical pencil years ago and it is just so much easier to use, you do not have move your hand only a finger to advance lead.
OK, you just saved me a ton of time/money. I've been spec'ing out everything for that built since you did it. I already had about 40% of the materials and it wouldn't have been "horrible" to increase my shop stock with some new stuff. Problem is that my "gonna do" list is such that I already need to develop an immortality formula to get on top of that before I step up to this as well. I already have the bag from the first run and I can't say enough good about. Of COURSE I pre-ordered it 2 minutes into the video man. I mean - come on! Wish there was an option to get you to sign the thing.
This is fantastic! When I saw the video come up on my feed, I thought, wow, I would like to buy one.... then I watched the video. I can order one now. Hurray!
Don't know if Adam will see this or not but have you even considered that could use a 3 bar slider/triglide and a D-ring on the front of the shoulder straps to give you a point to clip things to, like a diver's harness?
I love the product, and pre ordered the day the video came out, not a big fan of the customer service. Sent an email asking for an update today as I've heard nothing since being told they would ship in February. Got an email back that was fairly condescending saying it would ship at the end of February and offering to cancel my order if that wasn't acceptable. I'm fine with it shipping in late February, not fine with someone having an attitude with me over asking a legit question about an item I have already paid for. That being said I'm still very excited for it to get here as it looks really well made, and I've always been a huge fan of Adam Savage.
Too excited to find I could buy this after watching you design and make it just last week. 😉 Now I can be just a hair less afraid of the big tools. Cheers.
I love the large amount of pockets. I'm a person that won't wear a pair of pants if the pockets aren't deep enough. I always need pocket space as I easily forget where I set things if I don't keep them close, especially if it's a small object.
I love the design! Split-legs are not just something a male maker can prefer, I modified my own apron after I saw Adams one day build so I also now have a split-leg design, which I absolutely love because one of the worst things for me is the fact that I can't move freely with the apron on. There is one (two actually) disadvantage(s) to wearing an apron as a female maker which is boobs.. the top pocket curves around them, so storing things there is really annoying 😅🤣 My apron came with a loop, which I at first didn't think was something i wanted, but being able to hang my apron using that loop, os one of my favorite features on it now 🤩 i don't like hanging my apron using the shoulder straps, especially when it's full of tools.
This may actually keep me out of trouble with the misses. When ever pop into the shop for a “few minutes” I seem to always come out with some kind of spot or stain. Since I didn’t dress the part as I wasn’t intending on going into the shop. Thanks Adam.
I don’t have a shop, but I want one for when I’m just doing general work around the house. I love the split leg design with pockets. Heck, I could probably use this when painting models as I am always running out of places to lay things out I can just put my favorite brushes and xactos in pockets.
I got one for the wife in November 25th for her birthday which is December the 15th, haven't heard anything, but I'm really excited i know its going to blow her mind. Plus she got extra gifts that I had to buy on the fly, she doesn't know I got her the apron. Ill be sure to send a pic of her wearing it at her shop when we get it (hopefully soon)
I have the Savage Industries tape measure as part of my personal EDC. It's very high quality and has already absorbed a lot of abuse from me. Also, the ordering process was fantastic. They didn't have the tape measures in stock when I decided to order one so I sent an e-mail, not only did I get a prompt reply they also e-mailed me when the items were back in stock, and again at each step of the process until I got the tape measure. I covet this apron.
Love the apron. Have you considered doing something like velcro or Molle pouch attachments so that pockets could be moved around or customized based on the wearers need?
OMGoodness, I LOVE that you are making this available. I have been looking for one and striking out on everything I try. I pre-ordered it, Hope they come quick :) Happy holidays!
Hi Adam! I'm not sure if you'll see this but wanted to let you know that on your website, your book section still says "pre-order" release date 5.17.19 and the old book tour dates. may want to be updated, but either way, I love the content! you're my favorite channel on YT!
Can't wait to get mine, just sent an email about sizing. Definitely am planning on what tools will live there. Have always liked pockets and organizing them for the best access etc.
This looks great! While I don't make much, I love playing around with the idea of being one, and I'm constantly imagening how to make and improve things. Even if I don't physically do it, I think it's a great mental exersice thinking like this. Which is why I immediately thought of adding removable knee pads to this apron. I imagine the knee pads being fastened with zippers or clips to the bottom of the apron, where the leg straps are. The pads could be made with a square layer of canvas and leather, with foam padding inbetween. The leather would be the outer layer that takes the most abuse. Might have to add another strap at the bottom of the knee pad too keep it in place. 🤔
You might consider substituting MOLE straps for some pockets. You might also consider a welder friendly version with pocket flaps to keep hot things from jumping into the pockets.

Maybe a velcro patch panel, where one can stick anything.
For instance in your case, you stick a velcro magnet there
That's great until someone with a pacemaker buys one... Good idea though
Well, one of adams philosophies is making improvements to oyur own tools isnt it?

Bought one for my husband for Xmas!! Excited to see it in person! Cool design and it should be great for all his projects!
Thanks again for sharing this on TH-cam I would’ve never known you had it otherwise I checked your website a couple weeks ago and it wasn’t there. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for the next new item.
Yeah this is one of my fav items that you’ve made. It’s on my list to buy for sure. Thanks for making these available.
I love the apron and I love how forward you are about it being your own product!
Oh boy, did I just ordered one! A genuine Savage. What a brilliant addition. Might this be the start of the Savage Tooling Product line?
7:46 Zero pieces of flair is the minimum, but some people choose to wear more, and we encourage that...
Happy to see that someone else picked up on the Office Space ref 😎
Love my Sailrite Ultrafeed for leatherworking! Glad you were able to use it to make your prototype! Of course I pre-ordered one:)
He used a Janome machine. I dont know why he said that he made it with a Sailrite machine.
Mine came in today! I'm 5'7 and 165 lbs and the small fits perfect!
I think you knocked it out of the park with this one. I have a Chinese made waxed canvas apron with a neck strap and don't really like it. I really like the split leg and back brace strap features on this apron of yours! I'm 5'7" and will probably order a small.
Ok Adam! I'm going to try the large. I'm 6'10" and ...... "fluffy" but I think I can make adjustments if needed! I'm excited!!
Oh! Nevermind if you guys are planning more sizes I will wait for bigger ones!!
I bought a large as well. I'm sure i can make some adjustments if need be.
Seeing someone so excited about the thing they've made for everyone is so inspiring
Happy to know these are for sale! I have wanted one like yours since you made it. Headed over after video to buy one.
I switched to a BIC sidecliques mechanical pencil years ago and it is just so much easier to use, you do not have move your hand only a finger to advance lead.
I love this apron so much - thank you for making it, and for sharing so much of the process.
Ever since I saw that one day build, I've been hoping you would sell these. This may very well be a christmas present to myself.
After a year like 2020 everyone should be getting themselves a Christmas present.
Love your enthusiasm Adam.
I love it Adam. I am not a huge apron wearer personally but its great. maybe not for me but none the less I like a good tool!
Yay!!! The moment I saw the one day build I was like “I wish he would sell thoes” and voila!!! So stoked
Ordered!!!! Such a coincidence. I was looking into different ones recently and couldn't find what I wanted. This is exactly what I wanted :)
Too excited to find I could buy this after watching you design and make it just last week. 😉
Now I can be just a hair less afraid of the big tools. Cheers.
Can't wait to receive mine. I hope it fits! I'm 6'6" and the split leg design looks great, but could also make the fit more exclusive.
It's great for you to get a design made for sale!
Like it a lot!
👍👍👍
Functional and well thought out. That price is fantastic. Great offering Adam.👍
There is one (two actually) disadvantage(s) to wearing an apron as a female maker which is boobs.. the top pocket curves around them, so storing things there is really annoying 😅🤣
My apron came with a loop, which I at first didn't think was something i wanted, but being able to hang my apron using that loop, os one of my favorite features on it now 🤩 i don't like hanging my apron using the shoulder straps, especially when it's full of tools.
This may actually keep me out of trouble with the misses. When ever pop into the shop for a “few minutes” I seem to always come out with some kind of spot or stain. Since I didn’t dress the part as I wasn’t intending on going into the shop. Thanks Adam.
Man. I want one hopefully you keep it around for a while so I can save up for it
Adam plans for the apron to be a staple on his site, so there's no rush.
@@tested Good to hear! My birthday isn't for another 9 months and this seems like a perfect thing for the wishlist!
I don’t have a shop, but I want one for when I’m just doing general work around the house. I love the split leg design with pockets. Heck, I could probably use this when painting models as I am always running out of places to lay things out I can just put my favorite brushes and xactos in pockets.
I love your excitement for this project/product. I hope I can get one at some point!
Can’t wait to get mine! Love the design and glad to shop local!
Brought a tear to my eye. Keep up the good work.
My mother-in-law bought me one for Christmas. Can not wait for it to get here.
I would LOVE one of those. My wife already bought me a lovely Christmas gift for this year, but maybe next year. 😮
You might consider substituting MOLE straps for some pockets.
You might also consider a welder friendly version with pocket flaps to keep hot things from jumping into the pockets.
So excited for mine!!!!! Can't wait. I have been wanting one ever since your video! So excited! :D
Adam always just brightens my day.
Great news, just mailed the shop team about the apron. If they confirm that it is also fitting for king size makers, I will order one.
Got my order in after the first round sold out, can't wait for it to ship! Really excited to get this thing on and in use!
You should definitely be proud of the price point! I'd buy one, but after watching the first video I was inspired to make one of my own
