Yay for Leena being on the pod! I love the matching outfits. And I have the same DNF technique as Ariel! I'm usually reading like five (5) books at a time, so I normally officially DNF something several months later when I need the bookmark. 😄
One of the authors of Ballad for Sophie (Filipe Melo) is portuguese and he dedicated the portuguese edition to a 23 year old woman, Beatriz, who was killed in her home by a jeaulous guy in her university class around the time of the release of the book. Beatriz was a talented pianist and big fan of Filipe Melo (who is also a musician, in addition to being an author).
can't believe it'd been so long since Leena was on the POD (hehe)! super happy to see her on, i get a lot of book recs from her channel :) Raeleen really took that TBR challenge and smashed it, well done!
I also follow an ariel method of dnf’ing but occasionally I do focus in on books I am excited about and try to give it around 50-100 pages to see if I still don’t like it or not
When to DNF a book? I use the “Rule of 50” created by Seattle librarian Nancy Pearl. Nancy says, “Give a book 50 pages. When you get to the bottom of Page 50, ask yourself if you're really liking the book. If you are, of course, then great, keep on reading. But if you're not, then put it down and look for another.” I look at my "Nancy Pearl Librarian Action Figure" when deciding whether or not to DNF a book. 😁
This episode should be sponsored by Lucy and Yak 😂
Ariel and Leena in matching L&Y sharing earbuds is uhhhhhh the light of my life ☺😍

The trope of « journalist meets elderly famous person » also appears in The Thirtheenth Tale (by Diane Setterfield) if I remember correctly 😊

Those listening to the podcast wouldn’t know Raeleen was present. Ariel introduced herself and her guest and totally ignored her podcast partner 😅
Ahh yay! Hello from Australia!! ❤
As an author myself, I would love to join your podcast. Any way we can arrange a collaboration?
