    This bring back so many memories. I used to play this during beta and then is called Maplestory SEA. When someone give you even a few pots, it feels a lot because each mesos counts. I also remember doing kerning party quest during midnight all the way to morning because there is less queue. Thanks for bringing these memories back man

    i started playing back in 2004 and started playing recently again. I usually do come back during a hyper burning event to get a quick fix, but this time, i kinda stayed.
    Now i know the nostalgia is strong for the past versions, but good lord thats all it is. The grind was terrible, the classes were not balanced at all and you were in danger of getting scammed anytime you entered Perion or Kerning City. There was not much content either once you went past a certain level. Until Ludibrium came out, all there was was Victoria Island and Orbis.
    What there was and is missing today is the guilds and friends, that is true. It seems to be more of a solo experience today compared to back in the day. But still, im sure most people that miss the old MS would not play it past a week if they had to do it all over again just from a gameplay standpoint alone.

    Maplestory has always been my go back to game. Since last year though i dont think ive put more hours into any other game in the past year. i think its mainly because of the guild i joined and the friends i made and talk to daily plus the boss party i formed to continue content.

    Great video. I started playing pre-Pirates release. Played on and off since, but committed to Phantom at release due to playstyle. I played on-and-off since, but really picked it back up in 2019. I have since hit 9k legion in Kronos and 8.5k in Bera, with my Kronos Phantom soon to hit 275 this week.
    I know that one MapleStory Worlds drops and replicates the old school server (like what Korea's MapleStory Worlds did), there will be an uptick in players.

      @@PrtSc I'm interested to see what modifications and changes they make to a revived old school server. I know purests will say "no changes" but as someone who started around the same time as you I think certain changes are unavoidable and others would just be nice additions to the game. I think some of the private servers do interesting things like gach tickets dropping from enemies, I think that balances out the fact that nearly half your gachs back in the day were pumpkin pies, and elixirs. Other things like shortening the orbis trip/wait time is a nice quality of life that doesn't detract from the nostalgia

    alot of people complaining about current maple think that what they loved when they were kids is what they would love today aswell. The game was a really fun casual social game as a kid just doing pqs and stuff and socialize. But as an actual mmo game there was no real content and no real longevity, very basic combat, no endgame outside of 1-2 bosses that didn't really have mechanics , the grind was ridiculous moving around slow like a snail and killing one mob at a time for little to no rewards. Most people that want old maple just think that it would be the same feeling they had as a kid which is just pure nostalgia. The whole thing about having to walk around everywhere being immersed discovering the world you experienced as a kid wouldnt hit the same today and would get old and annoying real quick.
    While the current maple may not be for everyone it is just objectively a much better game with more/better progression tons of early/mid/game bosses to progress through. The game was always a grindy game that's what maple is and the grind today is much more fun and rewarding with alot more things to grind towards to.

      Lame. Getting 18 characters to lv 100+ in a week is such a waste of time. Links aint gonna matter if you dont have 50bill layin around. Dont forget the 100s you gotta spend on cubes

    • @mkwsoxfan
      @mkwsoxfan หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@absolutelypro4612This isn't even entirely true, unless you want to solo hard/chaos end game bosses. The events give stuff away that even the most funded players would have drooled at 5 years ago. Legion and link can propel your characters to levels capable of handling mid game bosses, which can hypothetically be the baseline for doing end game with groups. Look I don't think it's a perfect system, but it's far improved from 5-8yrs ago where if you didn't spend $6000 on cubes you physically couldn't play the end game stuff. There's actually a pretty solid avenue to access all the content without selling your kidneys

      Waste of time is subjective, it's not a waste of time if it's what I want to do. Not to mention it all makes your account stronger, I get to try different classes and it's all progression.
      I played a while ago, it's not hard to fund a character with a proper boss mule set up and all that. Just time consuming but every MMO is time consuming. If I stop enjoying myself I'll stop playing, simple as that.

    • @StimPakTskAwwYea
      @StimPakTskAwwYea หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nah, links and legion are what compensate for not having a lot of funds. You are doing it right. Arguably choosing certain links and legion to level first is perhaps even more critical than just mindlessly funding. You can take on bosses a lot sooner with the right links and legion. Got 4k hrs on steam probably more since I've played on and off since 2006. Imo the game is fun and has only gotten better. Watching this game grow has been amazing. Playing Reboot (Hyperion) sorta semi hardcore was a great experience as well and the community has been amazing. It has kinda fizzled out since the launch of the server but progressing pretty close to everyone else doing bosses, training, etc is probably the most fun I've had in an mmo in awhile. I'm glad it's this one since there's so much nostalgia tied to it.

    I genuinely believe that, nexon took this route because they know that their audience is growing up as well, and to retain the older player base they had to make adjustments for us adults. However i found my love for maple again last year and decided to give the Maple Story M a go again because on release i wasnt a fan of a dumb down version and not the real thing. I played MapleStory very early on and stopped playing before the big bang. I tried to play it a few months ago, and other than the game and screen being bloated with 20 years of added systems, I found the worst part to be how they design the world. It seems to be mostly similar, small maps with very lazily placed platforms filled with mobs― clearly, the once thought out design of Victoria Island and how the main cities connected with each other and Sleepywood was replaced with maps meant to optimise wiping the whole screen with one character.
    Could MapleStory have avoided its current state with 20 years of powercreep? Is the current state of MapleStory the result of following where the money comes from (whales)? Were the solo gameplay decisions forced because of dwindling player numbers? Maybe, maybe not. However, I do think that in a vacuum, core gameplay decisions could have been made to keep the spirit of the game from the early days alive well into the future. The whole idea of replacing big maps with unique layouts, where multiple players could play in at once and replacing it with the previously mentioned gameplay kills the world, for me. The idea that wiping screens was objectively the inevitable endgame to MapleStory is just false. There are many ways to make gaining EXP as efficient without it coming down to killing 100 mobs at once and doing 2 billion damage hits. I feel like they got lazy, and, instead of finding interesting ways to upgrade the existing classes, they decided to: 1) Make every class an atomic bomb eyesore map-clearer (watchout, 7th job might clear the entire server) and 2) release dozens of new classes for novelty without thinking of the long term effects on every other class.
    I don't care if people like the current state of the game, but when people tell me that I'm only being nostalgic about the past and that it wasn't that good, remember that you're spending all your time solo-clearing an empty map is a lifeless, supposed MMORPG. It's not any less grindy, it just lost its charm.
