      I've got my frame built and my flexigray is arriving tomorrow.
      About how hard do you pull the screen when stretching it over the frame?

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a little bit of tension to get the wrinkles out. You don't need to really feel like youre stretching the material much unless you are trying to get some wrinkles out in the corners.

    Just a quick tip for anyone trying to get rid of those distracting bands of light on the floor and ceiling (as seen at 11:59), tape the LED strips facing the wall, not out. You will still get the ambient light just around the screen, but the bands of light will be gone.

    Absolutely 100% respect a man that chooses this amazing screen build over a college fund. 😂✊ The only change I would make is to paint the wood strips black before gluing the LED lights to them - that would prevent any visible raw wood from a side view - but if it's so close to the wall that it's not visible, then that would not be needed.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, priorities! By the time they get to that age, college will be free, we'll own nothing, and be happy about it 😉
      That definitely is not a bad idea. You have to be nearly directly off to the side to see the wood/leds, but not a bad idea...

    Awesome build. To be honest I was expecting something extremely over the top like your other videos, like a screen that would pour your drinks haha. Actually I was hoping this was one of those ambient reactive backlights. I have yet to see an affordable version though. To explain its basically the same leds but they turn different colors at the same time to match the image on screen so in the ocean at nights the lit blue water on bottom is blue leds on bottom white led for the boat on the sides and black night is led off on top. Awesome but so far the cheapest is twice your overall cost just for the led and controller.

      Thanks Philip, my wife said the I was "so extra" or something like that when she realized the lights were synced up on the same system as the bar lol. I'll have to let her know I could have gone more extra 😂 Those setups are cool, but like you said, costly... These lights were still about $100 to put behind the screen, I wouldn't want to spend too much more on something like that

    • @Ash-qc9os
      @Ash-qc9os 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made an ambilight kit for the back of my 4k tv that runs off an Arduino Uno and it works perfect. Not expensive either, just individually addressable led strips, power supply and the Arduino, that's it!
      I'm currently working on my own projector setup but with a 90" roll up screen so no fancy led's. I'm using paper floor lamps with Philips Hue bulbs instead for the ambient lighting.
      I deleted my TH-cam channel a while back so i don't have a video of it running anymore :(

      My projector has a lens memory function for different aspect ratios. For anything 2.35 or 2.4, I have it lower the image so it's more eye level and only a border on the top of the screen

  • @vietnamvet6474

    Great job. Just wondering why the movie didn't cover the whole screen and have you ever thought about getting an Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector?

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks man. It's a 16:9 screen and the movie was 2.35:1. My projector has a feature called lens memory which will recognize different aspect ratios and auto adjust to whatever settings you set up to. I make it drop the 2.35 image to the bottom of the screen to make the image more eye level and remove the black bars on top/bottom. They are only on the top that way.
      I've seen the laser ultra short laser projectors, but haven't looked into the much. Pretty happy with this one currently but will look into that as an option as well when I upgrade

      @@LifeofBliss Thanks for the feedback. My screen is very similar to yours except spandex. I have the same tape but went the route of building a little trim frame that slides on the outside edge. • @justinbrownell5511
    @justinbrownell5511 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have gone back and forth on my approach to building my frame. I like yours due to the simplicity and less opportunity for mistakes. But I'm concerned about the inner bracing showing through the screen. Have you had that problem at all?
    I've seen people add quarter round to the edges and other techniques, but I'm not sure I want to go that route.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't show through at all on mine. Make sure you get flat boards. If there's a slight bend to them, make sure they bend towards the wall vs the screen. Also, when you attach the cross braces, you can recess them a few fractions of an inch behind the top and bottom of the frame (hope that makes sense). You definitely could add quarter round or something like that, but its just another step and more money.

      It's a regular 16:9 aspect ratio. When 2.35 movies play, they have the black bars at top and bottom normally. My projector has a function where it recognizes 16:9 or 2.35 content and can adjust the zoom and positioning of the image. Looks awesome bud! But why not center the screen on the wall? Looks like it was more to the left.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Has to do with where my seating is centered. I have less room on the right side of the room so it pushes everything over slightly. Is what it is...

    Hey Bliss, nice video. I followed the instructions and didn’t realize it, but have some waves/ripples at the bottom of my screen. Do you think it might be because the material isn’t tight enough? Its roughly 150” diagional

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea it doesn't sounds like it was fully stretched one way. If you had enough material to get a good grip, you could pull out some of the staples and try stretching it a bit more around that area.

      You mean what was wrapped around? You'll need to take that in to account when ordering. If you have any questions on what size to order, give them a call. They are good people. Tell them Kyle says hi 😉

    I was going to spend $800 on a screen but after seeing this video I decided to build my own. It ended up being totally worth it and I didn't have to compromise on size because of price. Now I just need to add some LEDs.

    • @LifeofBliss

    Why not hang on nails? or screw frame hangers to the screen? would like to know your thoughts

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wouldn't start on just hanging it on nails. My subs would rattle it off within a few good scenes. There are many ways you can hang it, i just like this method because you can slide it side to side to very easily if needed. And it's super sturdy.
