  • Just before 7 am Cleveland Police took a call from a motorist who was eastbound on SH 105 approaching the 105 Bypass west of Cleveland. It was reported a silver Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound driving erratically with its flashers on. The reporter stated the driver would speed up to 70 then slow down to 30. Just 10 minutes later another call came in reporting a Toyota Corolla had crossed the centerline of Loop 105 over I-69 and was hit by an 18-wheeler. Units responded to the scene and found the Toyota fully involved in fire with the driver trapped. In addition, a silver Nissan was about 200-feet from the scene with an object through the windshield. Over three football fields further west of the burning vehicle was an 18-wheeler with heavy right trailer damage. The tanker was carrying the very dangerous polypropylene. There was no leak, however. Sgt Edwards with Cleveland Police Department investigated the crash. Due to the HAZMAT Loop 105 was closed completely around Cleveland and will be most likely through Saturday night as a load of chemicals is transferred to another tanker. Edwards said the Toyota crossed all the lanes and was struck by the right rear of the tanker trailer, THe damage sheared the axle and blew the right-side tires. Even with the extensive damage, Edward commended the driver for how she was able to maintain control of the truck for almost 1000 feet without rolling over. The driver of the Toyota was burned beyond recognition and has not yet been identified. There was no Identification to be found and the VIN numbers and license plates were destroyed by the fire. A Nissan that was traveling west behind the 18-wheeler had the windshield wiper motor of the Toyota go through the windshield. Smith Towing and J+J Wreckers removed the cars from the scene. The tanker has to have the chemical pumped which could last through the night. The fire Department is monitoring the situation and an area of 1/2 miles was evacuated while the transfer was taking place.

    Just terrible, I’m a retired police office and have seen my share of these accidents. I love my beer every now and then but people please stop driving a motor vehicle when you drink. You think you are fine, you think you can drive just normal but I’m sorry you can’t. Maybe everybody before getting a license should have to watch about 12 hours of dead bodies being pulled out of vehicle.

      Yep..agree. I'm 51 and when we got our driver's permits we had to watch a bunch of movies one of them was called red asphalt. These videos however make me cringe, and I've seen everything I thought I could see as an ICU rn..CLEARLY diff perspective, but you kwim. To the police officer Kama a similar situation arose here 3 years ago as I lived 20 minutes from parkland Florida and Marjorie stone in high school. Somehow somehow a video from inside the school popped up and and before I could realize what I was watching I was watching it... As a mom of high school children I was physically sit was physically sick even though you could not see graphically graphically anything you could still see blood and children on the floor. I can't to this day get it out of my head and I never will.. I was so upset thinking thinking people had to see that and maybe the families had to see that period period until my daughter said to me mom, maybe, everyone needs to see that Do you understand what's happening in the schools. Perhaps she was correct. Because the impact had on me forever changed the visual I had in my own head. Just like you hear about accidents but until you see it smell it taste it you know what I mean. Know my daughter did not see the video but but I still to this day think maybe everyone should maybe everyone should when it comes to the gun issue. Praying for all those involved

      @@Dani-ICU-RN here in Indiana when I was doing drivers ed in early 70’s we saw red asphalt. One kid had to leave the room. When you see people turned to chunks of meat in a mangled vehicle it stays with you. I don’t think the kids see such films anymore. I’m now a retired truck driver with 40 yrs of driving trucks of different sizes and job classes. I do not miss it especially how the attitudes of a lot of drivers are. The highway is a dangerous place. You see people on side of road for no real good reason except to bs with someone ( I seen this once and the guy was talking to the driver of the other car and his ass was hanging over the fog line ) not thinking they could be hit or cause someone to crowd someone into another vehicle. Kudos to the lady for keeping the truck up. That car must of crossed under trailer to hit that side of truck or something. Good thing it didn’t blow that tanker. Rough on all involved as always.

    Maybe this is insensitive to say, but I'm glad that for once it was the bad/intoxicated/erratic driver that was lost. Not some innocent person going to see their family. If was the smaller car that took the hit, and not the semi carrying toxic chemicals, it would have been the more common (it seems) outcome, where the innocent driver dies.

      Where do you get intoxicated, or a bad driver from? There's nothing stated here that even gives that impression. The impression I gather from this is medical emergency, or possibly an issue with the vehicle itself. I believe Toyota (could have been another car maker, tho) actually had a recall on their sedans, not too long back, for the accelerator sticking, and the breaks to fail.
      An entire family lost their lives in one of those incidents, while on the phone with 911. The vehicle kept speeding up and slowing down a tad, but it wouldn't let them stop.
      So before you pass judgement, wait until you know more.
      My condolences to this person and their loved ones.

    • @MsRuggy80
      @MsRuggy80 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      In regards to my last comment. Yes, it was Toyota that had the recall for accelerator issues. The family involved all perished, and the driver/ father was a CHP officer, on his way to his daughters soccer game.
      Here's one snippet regarding it and after the quote, I will post the link to the 911 audio of the family that lost their lives. Fair warning, it's not an easy thing to listen to, knowing they lost their lives.
      But just want to show you why your comment is actually very insensitive... when we have no answers as to why they crashed, at this time. Could very well be that make and model of Toyota....
      "The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that from 2000 to mid-May, it had received more than 6,200 complaints involving sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles. The reports include 89 deaths and 57 injuries over the same period. Previously, 52 deaths had been suspected of being connected to the problem."

      Fact. My dad hit a truck head on just before my 18th birthday. I got my CDL at 21, I'm now 41. People always ask me how I could be a driver after knowing my dad died that way. I tell em I dont think about it. While I miss my dad, he's in a better place. If I feel for anyone, it's the driver that had to live on with that memory. He had to go back to work to support his family. The responders that worked the scene and had to go home to their families and act normal. Aint gonna lie, not sure what I would do if that happened to me.

The drunk driver sped down a neighborhood road at 60+, literally flew across a 4 lane highway (just missing an innocent driver) and slammed into a convenience store. The store was totally destroyed, lucky no one was in the store at the time. 4 children motherless and 2 widowers now. The driver who survived goes to jail. 3 familes devastated because of bad judgement. When will our society make it so bad of an outcome to drink and drive that people will stop. Man what a shame! I used to investigate fatality accidents with my Auto Tech Teacher in high school. Every fatality accident we always found the shoes of the deceased in the car close to where they were seated. Does anyone know why that is? Just so you know we did the report and investigation usually inside the shop of the company that towed the car. My teacher and I went to all of the fire stations and had all of the tow companies to tell them how we would like the cars handled at the scene. He told the firemen to just cut the negative battery cable and to leave everything as it was so all switches, climate control settings, radio etc…..all to be where they were that fateful day. We checked tires date codes, manufacturers, tread depth if they were a matching set or mismatched, we then checked the brake pads, measuring the pad material left, rotor thickness, drum brakes thickness of brake shoes, drum diameter. We checked for where the radio loudness level, climate control defrost, ac, heat. Lights if they worked or not and if damaged in wreck……was a real eye opener for an 18 year old. This was back in 1985-86. Most cars still had carburetors, drum brakes in the rear, power steering power brakes, manual roll up/down windows……was a great time working with my teacher who has since passed away May he RIP!

      It's like the table-cloth trick, when you snatch it away, items on top of the table remain. Gravity pulls on every object individually. If you crash into a pedestrian fast enough, you can knock them out of their shoes, glasses or hat, and all articles will remain at the point of impact. I don't know the scientific term for it, but it stems from gravity.

      From the overhead view of the accident scene, my guess would be that the Toyota driver was in the exit ramp lane, and for whatever reason, decided to _not_ exit. That road is only one-lane each direction, and the trucker was already in the lane. I think the Toyota driver gunned it and tried to pass the truck on the right, and impacted the passenger side tandems. (On tankers, the tandems stick out... unlike box trailers where they are tucked away under the trailer... so they're easier to get tangled up in.)
      The force of the impact, along with the motion of the wheels would have chewed up the car, spun it around and sucked it further into the trailer. (Imagine if you stuck your hand in between two high speed gears... it just grabs you, pulls you in and chews you up.)
      Just my theory, for what it's worth. I've seen it happen several times over a long career as a driver, virtually _always_ with fatalities.

    Kudos to the truck driver. My husband is a truck driver and I have drove with him. Watching how these cars will cut off a semi. Especially in the merge lane, onto the expressway.
    We have blind spots and if you go around us because traffic is slow, backed up, and we aren’t moving, please be patient! You’re little plastic car won’t compare to our 18 wheeler.

    We had a guy pass us on eye 75 down in Punta Gorda area last January he was running 100+ mph traffic was running 75-85 mph he ran into the rear of a 65 mph tanker truck just a few miles after he passed us. Pretty sure he never made it. They had a blanket over the drivers side when we were able to get by.

      It's not only the crankshaft exposed. You can also see the transmission was ripped open, and at least one gear is visible. Just imagine the force it would take to tear open both the engine and transmission. This was definitely no fender bender. Good thing this idiot killed himself before he had a chance to kill anyone else. I have zero sympathy for anyone who drives drunk.

    The "VIN" plate came about in 1954, and for many years afterwards the alphanumeric numbers were stamped in stainless steel and/or with anti-corrosive metal. Also, the "license plate" use to be stamped in steel, not aluminum. Saying that, such plates would have survived the fire.

    • @gsdalpha1358
      @gsdalpha1358 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There should be other places a VIN tag is located. One of my first jobs was working for a car dealership, and they purchased (what they thoughts was) a pristine car at auction for their used car lot. Upon inspection, it was discovered there were TWO VIN numbers: the car was two wrecked autos put back together. Done skillfully and beautifully but still - not something the dealership would sell. This was in the mid 1970's so IDK if there was legislation yet on salvage titles. And maybe I'm assuming multiple VIN tag locations on newer cars. RIP to the driver, sounds like a medical condition?

    Took me a while to understand what happened, but the toyota and the truck were going opposite directions at impact. The toyota hit the front side of the rear wheels - not a rear-end collision

    • @mkay1957
      @mkay1957 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure about that. The axle and wheels of the trailer are pushed forward on the trailer, like the impact was on the right rear of the trailer.

    • @kootybear
      @kootybear 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not sure either, damage to the right rear of the trailer and just how the person would have hit the right side if they were coming from the opposite direction wouldnt make sense. just from the damage, it seems the toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed and crashed into the trialer.

    • @cdoleoj1
      @cdoleoj1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mkay1957 This is what I think happened. The Toyota and the truck are driving in same direction. Toyota is coming from behind at high rate of speed, spins out trying to pass the truck, does a 180 and ends up under the trailer facing the wrong way at which point the trailer drives over the car with the right hand side, pushing the right hand side tandems back and the left tandems forward that is why the car body work is all tied up in the right hand side of the trailer, looks to be the roof of the car as the trailer tires invade the interior of the Toyota, the Toyota then spins back to face the correct way after the trailer has driven over it, the car explodes into pieces on impact with the wiper blades motor landing in the windshield of the Nissan. You can also see the curtain airbag tied up in the truck trailer tires. The truck driver had the scare of her life, driving normally and all of the sudden the trailer jumps up and starts crabbing. Wild ride!!

      @@kootybear look at the sheet metal it’s all in the front of the passenger side front axle. If you look at the drivers side front axle it’s pushed forwards. Passenger pushed back and driver going forward. Now think about that. 🤔

    • @mkay1957
      @mkay1957 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's what it said in the description. The car must have crossed in front of the truck and over corrected into the right rear of the truck.
      That might have been fortunate for the people in the Nissan. Not so much for the person in the Toyota.
