  • In this video I turn a thin walled vase from a piece of apple from the firewood pile. The walls are between 3-4MM thick and the vase is just over 6" tall. This was a fun and easy project with free wood. I hope you enjoy the video, thank you to all who watch!

    Not sure why, but this vase appeals to me more than most vases I've seen made. Maybe because it was from what could simply be a log from the firewood pile.

      That is exactly what it was going to be, firewood. No stick of firewood safe around here no matter who’s yard it it in! Thanks for watching!

    Beautiful craftsmanship, a high bar indeed. The fact that you call the remaining bark a natural edge as apposed to a live edge tells me everything I need to know about your attention to detail. Love your work

    How do your projects, made out of a full branch like that, not crack as they dry?
    Even being super old and dried out it seems they would crack later after being turned.
    Seems like water would always be trapped in there. Unless they are kiln dried.

    • @TheKlondikeCraftsman
      @TheKlondikeCraftsman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Max, in this case it was turned very thin which usually will not crack. Thanks for watching!

  • @trurex007lee7
    @trurex007lee7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looks amazing. 4-5 coats of finish, wow, do you need to slightly buff between those coats and how long does it normally take to sufficiently dry between coats?

    • @TheKlondikeCraftsman
      @TheKlondikeCraftsman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! This piece is thin so it looks like 2-3 coats will do. I buff after the last coat and it cures in a few days. Thanks for watching!
