    I had similar accident in the past, less damages but it was very paintful due to the costs.
    Since that time I always install crash pads in every motorcycle I had, to protect the bike from this small damages/scratches in case of unfortune accident.

    • @ThrottleBackRubberDown
      @ThrottleBackRubberDown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a plus to have good crash protection. I am not a fan of the available bars because I can't find a mount for my OEM aux lights with the bars. Thanks for the comment!

    Hiya Josh, my RR rolled off the kickstand when it was 2 weeks old, I did catch it but it was at the point of no return so I had to lay it down slowly twinging my back in the process but luckily for the bike no damage or scrapes, good to hear yours is not bad and is easily fixed ....👍

    They probably make some touch up paint for the ice gray. I'd do that, then just get flush mount signals and a cage. Mount the aux lights to the cage and boom, turn your drop into an upgrade!

      I considered this but am not happy with current bars/cages available. Waiting for some of the other companies to get up to speed on their 2020 stuff for the bike.

    I have had a couple small mishaps on my bike (one with a cement barrier), but I never thought about filing an insurance claim. I just ordered the OEM parts and replaced them myself. I figured by the time the deductible was applied, plus the hassle of getting estimates and non-covered charges by the dealer, it was just less painful to do it myself. If I had a messed up engine case or fork or swingarm, Yeah I would definitely go through the process, but for the body work and farkle nics? Nah. One bit of advice - invest in frame and axel sliders dude - they really do work well - they would have possibly saved that body panel.

    • @ThrottleBackRubberDown

      Yeah. Definitely have to run the math to see that if it makes sense or not. 100% on crash bars. My issue is the only ones on the market for the 2020 model require a mounting point that doesn't allow for the auxiliary lights to stay installed. I am not sure if it is the pandemic or what but the usual aftermarket stuff isn't out yet. The only other ones are made by BMW and are carbon fiber...which make no sense and also are like $1600! Hoping the aftermarket catches up soon. Thanks for the comment!

    Thanks for posting and sorry to hear but I now know why my bike came with those same exact scratches on the right side. The previous owner dropped it which I suspected but didn't think it hit the deck.I had a KLR for 15 years which I dropped several times (dirt/road) but never put an insurance claim in and just repaired myself. I will repair the BM but I'll get the carbon side trim. Little more expensive but it looks great and my aux light just got scratched.

    Thanks for the video, sorry to hear about your accident, you should keep the rubber down you know. 😊
    I fell over with my bike on a parking lot this summer. The only thing that was broken was my clutch lever and my left vario case. And of course my ego was a little bent also.
    I contacted my insurance company and they told me that they would pay for the repairs and they required me to let a authorized dealer.
    Then I talked to my dealer and they ordered a new clutch lever and vario case. At the next service they replaced the lever and I got a new side case. It costed me around 150$ (1500skr) I don’t know if it’s the same for all insurance companies here in Sweden but I think that that’s the same. You are not allowed to do the repairs you’re self.

    Harley it's 300 dollars for estimate. A friend of mine had some run into his garage door. Hit his bike knocking it over into his wife goldwing trike. Just on his bike was almost 10k damages all was just some little scratches. And said his handlebars was bent we couldn't tell. He didn't fix nothing but highway peg that broke off. He pocketed that money. When he trade the bike year later he didn't loose nothing.

    • @ThrottleBackRubberDown
      @ThrottleBackRubberDown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure. My Mrs. had someone rear end her lightly Got a check for the damage and just left it as it was totally minor. Figure when we trade it we will be just fine. Personally I keep hoping someone else hits the rear end and then we can get it fixed, hahaha.

    @marcos.1771 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is sure some coincidence, because the exact same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago, but the auxiliary light also ripped open the rubber hose coming out of the water pump.
    This is what I did...
    The scratches on the mirror and the hand guard do not matter to me, the scratches on the side panel were touched up for free at my dealership.
    I glued the turn indicator with Superglue.
    I replaced the bracket of the auxiliary light myself with a new one that I had ordered at my dealership.
    I straightened out the gear shifter, no big deal.
    The whole foot peg does not need to be replaced, but only the feeler.
    The other scratches can be touched up with black paint or a permanent black marker pen.
    In Euros I paid € 40 for the bracket of the auxiliary light, the feeler on the foot peg costs € 6 and my dealership replaced the broken water-pump hose for just under € 100, labor cost included.
    1 U.S. Dollar is about € 0.83.
    My deductible at my insurance company is about € 630.
    You can easily calculate that my repair bill is light years away from your calculation.
    BTW, should you replace the bracket of the auxiliary light yourself, keep in mind that the torque for tightening that big bolt is 56 Nm.

    • @ThrottleBackRubberDown
      @ThrottleBackRubberDown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the heads up on the torque setting. Definitely doing that on my own. Sorry you had a similar issue but in the end no big deal.

    • @marcos.1771
      @marcos.1771 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThrottleBackRubberDown I got the torque value for that bolt from my dealership, as they obviously have a complete list of those items in their documentation for the BMW bikes.
      Applying the correct torque in this case is critical, look at the metal that bolt screws into.
      I got a torque wrench from Hazet (German tool manufacturer) for the 100 Nm torque of the nut on the rear axle to adjust the chain.
      I don’t know how handy you are with tools, but I found replacing the bracket for the auxiliary light to be a piece of cake. I always use Loctite 243 bolts and nuts locker glue in this case.
      If you are going to replace the feeler in the foot peg, you’ll first have to extract the broken thread of the previous one, and this requires the use of an extractor tool.
      If you cannot do it yourself, your dealership will do it for you, but they’ll charge you labor costs for this job.
      Have a look at the cost of that repair bill now, and you’ll see that it will be a long way below your deductible of your insurance contract.

    Absolutely impossible to get those low insurance rates in Russia. For example here for your S1000XR the payment for FULL insurance would be approx 1500-2000+ USD per year and with obligatory franchise around 1000USD. 99% of motorcycles here do not have full insurance, only third party liability. So for me it is not profitable to pay for full insurance, it would only help of thieves or total full damage for motorcycle. Just too much money to be payed.
    My example with F850GS was that I payed from my pocket around 800 USD for parts, just dropped it(my fault) and damage was a bit bigger than yours but not so much. I also partly made some works by myself, like mirror, handguard and so on. But to glue the sticker on plastic..no..hate this type of work. And some work also requires special instrument like torque wrench and you need to know exact torque of some bolts and use lock glue, for example i think that passanger foot peg attachment or pedal with quickshifter.

    • @ThrottleBackRubberDown
      @ThrottleBackRubberDown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah...definitely want to have the torque settings before attaching components. I am not interested in trying to get the stickers on and will have the shop take care of that. I don't mind some of the of the other jobs, though.

    • @clawbass888
      @clawbass888 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThrottleBackRubberDown As I know it is not possible to oficially get torque settings and other tech details for BMW. Only dealers have that information. Perhaps some unofficial data in internet, but 2020 XR is a new bike, i don't think that there are some data like this in internet. But you can try to find.

    That’s a bummer but not to bad. Good idea on heading to the dealer to get estimates. I work in the collision industry. Most insurance adjusters have no idea how to write up a motorcycle estamite so they’ll go off the one you got. With a car they won’t even look at any estamitrs that you’ve had done.
