I believe that if you want to take full advantage of the parking mode and all it has to offer, you must hard wire this to your car. There is a parking cable with a built in switch that shuts the unit off when battery reaches a certain level. Also, the video this unit produces is quite good, however there are others that easily read licence plates, especially at night. I think that this cam excells in the parking mode feature, having several modes to capture vids for an extended period of time by using only 10 miliamps of power in the parking mode. It greatly increasing the capabilities from hours to weeks. For me, this makes it the best buy for what I am looking for. You can still read plates, but some tend to be a bit more washed out if not directly in line with the vehicle. Night vids are also a tad washed out by headlights and blurred. Again, if the plates are directly in front of the cam, no problems. I believe the only dowside here is that this cam doest not have HDR. High Dynamic Range. So it becomes a tradeoff with the top notch parking mode fetures. I'm all in with this cam because you can fine tune exactly what you want where most dashcams seem to fall short. Great vid! Thank you so much for your time and efforts!
At what time was the "nighttime" footage at 3:47 recorded? At what time were sunrise and sunset on that day? I see that it was quite cliydy that day. I'm asking so that I may judge how good the night vision is.
Quality. Some say '' how much ''. My response is - no, not how much. More to the point. How much is the accident NOW going to cost me ? If only I had had a camera...... then it would have been. It should have cost me ' x '. But the camera was hard evidence. Easy to use, once set up.

Vantrue N4 Pro at $299 USD beats this at reading plates during day and night, which is what you want.

I have the u1000 connected to an external battery pack and hardwired to my car. Can I keep that wiring in place and just switch the camera out?
